To not have gone out for 3 days?

My brother is staying with me and as my kids were running around he said " gosh, these kids have been stuck at home for 3 days, literally " 🤣 we haven't left the house since Tuesday, just eating drinking and watching films/playing with their toys. To be fair it has been raining here and I just can't be bothered to go out in the cold and rain. The dad is coming to collect them today they're staying with him for a few days

AIBU? Or does my brother have a point that it's weird not going out? Blush

Yeah with flu he’s hardly going to have normal energy levels though is he? Of course you stay in with flu. But a healthy child should be getting out more often than every 6/10/14 days.

amy85 · 28/12/2019 22:01

I'm rather jealous

user32564567 · 28/12/2019 22:02

Kids hate going for forced walks. Stay in the warm OP. Your kids won't shrivel up for lack of fresh air and a lovely jolly walk in the rain.

MamToTeens · 28/12/2019 22:03

3 days is nothing Grin one of mine has been known to stay home for 4 weeks straight even when she was in perfect health!

selmabear · 28/12/2019 22:08

YANBU. I could easily spend 3 days at home and my kids love to, as they put it, have a chill.

user32564567 · 28/12/2019 22:09

MN is obsessed with 'going for a walk in the rain' Just no.

gnushoes · 28/12/2019 22:16

Kids need exercise, fresh air and change of scenery. They don't need to be rushed about or regimented but why on Earth not get them out of the house? Not to shops either....

Babyfg · 28/12/2019 22:22

I'd go crazy. After one day I feel the walls are caving in on top of me. But if you're happy and the kids are happy, then you do you.

flowerycurtain · 28/12/2019 22:34

Crikey I'd go loopy for 3 days with no fresh air.

I don't think it's the healthiest of things. If you're ill. Fine. A day, fine. Possibly every 2.

But 3 days with no exercise? No green or nature to help with mental health?

vivacian · 28/12/2019 22:40

Fresh air, day light... they’re just daily requirements for a healthy life. Think about exercise, their circadian rhythm, mental health etc.

hellcarryingahandbag · 28/12/2019 22:41

@GlitteryGracie because I know from my experience with parents who loved staying in the house in nightwear, that children like to be occupied, not be kept behind closed doors because their parents want to slob about in nightwear all day.

TheSandman · 28/12/2019 22:44

I'd never leave my house if I didn't have to. It's dangerous out there. Plonked down at random on the earth's surface you have a one in three chance of ending up in the sea and drowning.

Those are dreadful odds.

TheSandman · 28/12/2019 22:45

Sorry Wrong! TWO in three! Even worse!

user32564567 · 28/12/2019 22:46

There's a lot to be said for slobbing about in nightwear. It's dangerous out there.

.

BalanchineBallet · 28/12/2019 22:48

I think it’s ridiculous and wrong. I don’t think it’s good for their physical or mental health. Maybe two days, but more? Unless they are ill, take the children out!!

managedmis · 28/12/2019 22:49

Each to their own.

I'd go mad.

We've been trampoling aka hell and then out for an hours romp around the frozen park in the PM(actually frozen, not some Disney fantasy land, oh no oh no)

AmyFl · 28/12/2019 22:49

It's fine OP, sounds blissful.

megletthesecond · 28/12/2019 22:53

Yabu.
Even if the weather is crap you still need to get out for an hour. As long as you keep a brisk pace it's usually bearable.

Lipperfromchipper · 28/12/2019 22:53

God you lot are a bunch of wimps!! We are out almost daily, on the beach is one of our favourite places, although I do like to change it up with the park and woodland walks ( I admit I am a tad bored of those three at the moment so I’m looking into other (cheap, outdoor options) I never have to force my dc to go for a walk, in fact I was the one pulling them out of the Irish Sea water on CHRISTMAS DAY 🤣🤣

GorkyMcPorky · 28/12/2019 22:55

We're really enjoying our annual hibernation. The rest of the year is so busy that I treasure this period of relaxation. We went out for a brief walk and then to the pub yesterday; they had an hour outside on bikes / skates earlier but apart from that I have zero guilt about PJs, too much TV and lots of chocolate at this time of year. It's a holiday at home. The 'lazy and disgraceful' poster needs to unclench.

GorkyMcPorky · 28/12/2019 22:56

@Lipperfromchipper, I'm.totally not a wimp. O work more than full time and consider this my well-earned rest. It may have been a tongue in cheek insult but you sound very smug.

PhilomenaChristmasPie · 28/12/2019 22:58

I'll drag mine out to Winter Wonderland tomorrow, but other than that, they haven't been out. I've only been to the supermarket.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 28/12/2019 23:00

Today is the first time I’ve left the house since Tuesday. I went to the GP, then came straight home. My children had been at home even longer, and have only left the house to decamp to their dad’s sofa/house. We’re all alive and functional, and I don’t think they’re suffering.

beautifulstranger101 · 28/12/2019 23:02

I would go stir crazy without going out at least once but each to their own. I also found little kids easier to deal with if they'd spent energy outside - it tires them out Grin

Lipperfromchipper · 28/12/2019 23:03

@GorkyMcPorky not smug at all. I was reacting to the “it’s dangerous out there comments” Hmm I work full time too! Rest all you want but I think a balance is important too! We try to get out most days, if not definitely every second day!! That’s just how we work. We are an outdoorsy family that live in a very outdoorsy community, swimming, surfing, skateboard/scooter parks my two are doing those since they were born.
