AIBU to think that this dude doesn't deserve such a title?
Unless it's indicative of the Royal Family not giving two hoots about the lives of the poorest?

Anyone who believes that welfare reform and universal credit has made people better off working knows very little about the benefit system.

breakfastpizza · 28/12/2019 13:39

He made life even harder for the most vulnerable in society, while lining his own pockets and those of his rich chums. His one key program failed spectacularly, and costs more money to administer than it saves. He shows utter contempt for women, the disabled, the poor, the working class.

But yeah, let's reward the little rat...

Limensoda · 28/12/2019 13:48

The honours are a complete farce. Knighthoods are a farce. It's disgusting IDS has been honoured but no surprise really.

Jengnr · 28/12/2019 14:06

IDS is actually evil. This is a disgrace.

But this whole fucking country is a disgrace these days so it’s probably fitting.

SkaTastic · 28/12/2019 14:10

Absolute horrible horrible cunt. Responsible for people living in misery and for people taking their own lives. Disgusting that he has been rewarded for his disgraceful behaviour.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 28/12/2019 14:27

Currently going through the UC process - and every single appt I've had has had people handing me tissues. I am borderline suicidal over it all, because everything is stacked against me. It is grim, and it is brutal. IDS thinks that people like me are scum.

So, as I sit here in my unheated house, looking at the leftovers from the foodbank that delivered to me on Monday (I was referred, I did not request, because despite everything IDS has done, I still have some pride), anyone who thinks he deserves any kind of honour other than architect of death needs to take a very long look at their principles.

At least the burning rage I'm feeling right now will keep me warm.

Joans3rddaughter · 28/12/2019 14:50

Its all "Jobs for the boys/girls" . Previous recipients of awards include "Dame Penelope Keith" Why?? What about people who really have done something above and beyond for example the couple who bought the Thimas Cook shops and were able to remploy hundreds of people. The woman whos nsme escspes me that has fought tirelessly for those affected by Hilsborough etc etc

malylis · 28/12/2019 15:26

Its no more shocking than Zac Goldsmith getting made a lord.

peonypower · 28/12/2019 15:58

I think they should just bin the whole thing.
I recently heard someone I know of had taken a job that came with a "guaranteed" knighthood. He was an utter arsehole at work, and I cannot think of someone less deserving.

I was disgusted when I found out. My colleague's response was "hmmm. Like Jimmy Savile" though, which I thought was a great way to congratulate him when the time comes.

VanyaHargreeves · 28/12/2019 16:18

Agree with all negative remarks, but sadly unsurprised.

John Major quotes though, I'm impressed, he never really stood out for me as PM

lyralalala · 28/12/2019 16:31

Compare and contrast the lack of any honour for Anne Diamond, despite the fact that she was directly instrumental in saving the lives of thousands of babies through the Back to Sleep campaign.

I’d like to believe she’s one of the people who turned something down because otherwise it’s a huge surprise

ALongHardWinter · 28/12/2019 17:06

Vile man.

Hopoindown31 · 28/12/2019 17:23

IDS is a typical Tory politician. Many before him have been knighted. Many scumbags have knighthoods and peerages as they always have done. There is no surprise here.

iklboo · 28/12/2019 17:41

IDS - just a couple of letters away from a condition that causes a lot of pain & suffering and produces a lot of shit.

MaxNormal · 28/12/2019 17:47

Disgusting but typical of the state of the country at present.

MurrayTheMonk · 28/12/2019 18:00

The whole system is a bit of a joke surely?

koshkat · 28/12/2019 18:02

Not sure that Her Maj has any say whatsoever OP.

Cremebrule · 28/12/2019 18:24

The whole system needs major reform. One of my previous bosses was knighted a few years ago. He has worked hard and been successful so I don’t begrudge him the honour. However, he has been paid very well for it and has had a lot of influence so he’s effectively been rewarded for being good at his job. I’d much rather see honours going to regular people who have volunteered, done acts of bravery etc not successful sports people, civil servants, charity bosses and politicians- all of which make up a huge amount of the higher honours and have power and status anyway.

Graphista · 28/12/2019 18:38

They should stick to shooting game and such then and not patronise the rest of us with how charitable they are.

They should all but disappear! They’re nothing but an embarrassment now!

At the very least they need to MASSIVELY downsize and be more like some European monarchies where they have limited residences and wealth and certainly let’s get rid of all the hangers on and stop funding the worst of them like Andrew.

IMO this arse is responsible for a not so subtle cull of the sick and disabled of which he is sickeningly proud.

But then the honours system is an anachronistic, embarrassing, self congratulatory load of bollocks anyway.

The people I have most respect for are those who’ve declined honours particularly if they’ve done so quietly - unless they used the decline as a platform to address issues of inequality.

Thesearmsofmine · 28/12/2019 18:49

I think it’s terrible. Of course the queen doesn’t pick the list herself but it makes an absolute mockery of any charitable work the RF do with those in poverty. We all know how out of touch these people are but this kind of thing really highlights it.

GREATAUNT1 · 28/12/2019 19:14

This was Theresa May’s doing, & a final finger to us all. The Queen doesn’t have to agree, but she probably thought if she gave the cunt a knighthood it would take the heat off Andrew.

Sam1875 · 28/12/2019 19:24

utter madness.
We have too many "Lords", costing UK taxapayers millions.
We have taken the awesome step in telling Parliament we want out of the EU
Now we must move on...

  • Abolish the House of Lords... un elected and expensive.
  • Abolish the BBC ... an out dated state broadcaster that is left bias..

use the £6 billion on NHS and Social care.
