To not eat the rind on brie cheese? Lighthearted!

DH thinks I am! I think wtf? He eats it! It's gross and disturbs the texture of the cheese. He thinks I'm 'fussy' for cutting a slice off the round and then removing the cheese to put on a cracker or whatever.

This is an ongoing thing with us because we live next door to an amazing dairy and get beautiful brie at cost price all year round.

YABU in a major way. Brie rind is the whole point of Brie

Selfsettling3 · 28/12/2019 02:45

This is my second Christmas without Brie. Pregnant last year and baby has CMPA. Enjoy ALL the cheese, smoother yourself in cheese. 😃

BillHadersNewWife · 28/12/2019 02:52

What!? The rind tastes like nothing but has a gross texture! Are you meant to eat it then? To me, it always feels like a foreign body has got into the food...and I'm eating it!

If you don't like it and he does, hand it over "here you go darling, I know how much you love the rind" and smile sweetly Grin

spingly · 28/12/2019 03:06

I'm a rind eater and agree with your DP! He needs to reassess your relationship and cheese eating issues.

If you say you don't like Stilton, then he needs to leave you.

Sorry but some things a relationship can not sustain!

@Selfsettling3 Same over here! I think I was actually drooling watching DH tuck into a cheeseboard this evening. Life can be cruel Xmas Envy

Silvafox · 28/12/2019 03:17

Brie is horrid insipid stuff; it's lovely blue cheeses or mature cheddars for me Grin

BillHadersNewWife · 28/12/2019 03:20

Silva I love stronger cheese too...all cheese is welcome! Just not with rind!

I think the rind is the best bit, to be honest.

JoanBonJovi · 28/12/2019 03:28

I don’t like it.

You don’t need to label a thread lighthearted.

Vintagevixen · 28/12/2019 04:42

YABU - I love the rind, my dad doesn't eat his rind and I'm always hoovering to eat his cut off bits!

1plus2equalstrouble · 28/12/2019 04:45

Rind is rank, Yanbu

BillHadersNewWife · 28/12/2019 05:27

Joan I've been on MN for ten years... Sometimes it's just safer.

I haven't found a cheese I don't like yet but I don't particularly like the rind.

I'll eat it occasionally but nine times out of ten I won't. It's quite nice with a bit of chutney on.

slipperywhensparticus · 28/12/2019 05:47

I hate the rind its teeth sticky stuff

SpinjitzuMaster · 28/12/2019 06:09

Sod the brie, you need a nice langres or chaorce. Wink

I'm not a rind eater except when you get to the end and its all collapsed and impossible to scoop up without a bit of rind mixed in.

BouleBaker · 28/12/2019 06:25

No rind for me. I love all cheese, particularly a good Epoisse, but just don’t like rind!

My DH does eat the rind, but we make space in our marriage to tolerate difference.

Cordial11 · 28/12/2019 06:28

I hate the rind! Gimme to gooey bit Crown Grin

AdaColeman · 28/12/2019 06:30

The rind is the best bit!
What do you do with cheeses that are ash coated, do you eat the ash? I do!

glowingtwig · 28/12/2019 06:36

YANBU. Rind is utterly rank and I always offload mine onto DH. He doesn't mind at all but thinks I'm weird.
He also thinks I'm odd because I butter my crackers before putting the cheese on.

HohohoHahaha · 28/12/2019 07:01

Why is it the rind the best bit?

I eat it if hungry, the middle is better in my humble opinion.

StoppinBy · 28/12/2019 07:02

I like the cheese but the rind tastes nasty, I don't eat it either.

cheesenpickles · 28/12/2019 07:13

Rind tastes likeConfused to me and blue cheese is verboten in our house. I do however have a fondness for Stinking Bishop and have an shelf full of cheese in the fridge. We introduced the 2 year old to baked Camembert yesterday and she loved it.

WarmthAndDepth · 28/12/2019 07:21

Rind is the best bit.

TwoleftUggs · 28/12/2019 07:27

I wouldn’t say it’s the best bit, but I do eat it anyway, no part of Brie or Camembert is wasted here. I can’t eat the crusts on blue cheeses though, I don’t know if you’re meant to or not but they look rank.
