To not eat the rind on brie cheese? Lighthearted!

DH thinks I am! I think wtf? He eats it! It's gross and disturbs the texture of the cheese. He thinks I'm 'fussy' for cutting a slice off the round and then removing the cheese to put on a cracker or whatever.

This is an ongoing thing with us because we live next door to an amazing dairy and get beautiful brie at cost price all year round.

Well this thread has made me go and get the last chunk of Gouda from the fridge and nibble it down to the finest of rinds Grin

Brie rind is the only bit worth having imo but I do not eat Gouda rind. Unless anyone can suggest a use?

I can eat thin rind in a sandwich but on a cracker, I just want the delicious gooey middle. No to rind.

BabyLEphant · 30/12/2019 23:16

I don't like like Brie rind much either although I know you are supposed to eat it. I just prefer the gooey butter in the middle. Try an Époisses - it's like a super smelly Brie and the rind is washed in brandy!

TigerOnATrain · 30/12/2019 23:17

@BillHadersNewWife

YANBU. Brie 'rind' is rank. 🤮

Jupiters · 30/12/2019 23:18

The brie rind is the best part!

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 30/12/2019 23:21

I live the rind! Sorry OP, I'm with your DP

Ladyratterley · 30/12/2019 23:22

My DH cuts the rind off his Brie and it irrationally really pisses me off. Sometimes I eat his ring, so your DH could do that?!

MaggieFS · 30/12/2019 23:24

YANBU it's horrible. One of the many things I miss about my dear Dad, he was always happy to eat mine up!

Thefaceofboe · 30/12/2019 23:28

The rind is like velvet and makes me gip

cheesenpickles · 30/12/2019 23:30

So following this thread I pulled out the festive Brie and tried again with the ribs and you know what? Wasn't bad! Cheers mumsnet!

cheesenpickles · 30/12/2019 23:30

With the rind! Not the ribs. Grin

TigerOnATrain · 30/12/2019 23:30

spoilsporter · 30/12/2019 23:31

Hate the rind and also now panicking as I though Brie was okay in pregnancy and I've had it a lot over Xmas!!!

Ladyratterley · 30/12/2019 23:39

@BillHadersNewWife Ahaaaahaaaaa!
RIND!!! I eat his rind! Bloody autocorrect Blush Grin

MrsPerfect12 · 30/12/2019 23:46

Nope no rind for me! I hate when the put it in sandwiches with the rind on 🤮

user27495824 · 30/12/2019 23:50

As a child I remember being taught to cut off the rind, but I could eat it if I really wanted to. Then when I started buying my own brie it was liberating to not be arsed cutting it off. Then I felt justified when I realised it is left on when you buy it in sandwiches. I spent years thinking it was wrong to eat the rind! I don't think the rind is the best bit, but I do quite like the velvetty, mushroomy texture and I like not wasting food and avoiding the faff of cutting it off.

user1460561714 · 31/12/2019 00:07

My dog loves the rind

JE17 · 31/12/2019 00:21

No rind is wasted in our house, the dog is a huge fan of it.

TotHappy · 31/12/2019 00:25

Don't worry spoilsporter, if you are ok, it is ok Smile I've been eating all the cheese too and I'm 8 months pregnant

anewnetter · 31/12/2019 00:27

all of brie is delicious.

LightDrizzle · 31/12/2019 00:29

I voted YANBU even though I eat the rind, because at the grand age of 49 I still rejoice that adulthood means not being nagged about leaving the white of poached eggs or whatever the fuck it is I want to do with food I have paid for.

OLDater · 31/12/2019 00:41

I always cut the rind off

To be honest, until now, I didn't know it was edible Grin

Topseyt · 31/12/2019 02:57

I like the rind.
