To not eat the rind on brie cheese? Lighthearted!

DH thinks I am! I think wtf? He eats it! It's gross and disturbs the texture of the cheese. He thinks I'm 'fussy' for cutting a slice off the round and then removing the cheese to put on a cracker or whatever.

This is an ongoing thing with us because we live next door to an amazing dairy and get beautiful brie at cost price all year round.

The rind is the best, slightly mouldy tasting with an amazing texture. We also have a fridge of smelly cheese right now including glorious stinking bishop.

Pregnant hormonal mess here! I'd kill for Brie! Literally! Don't waste the rind AngryBlush

Igneococcus · 28/12/2019 07:39

I like the rind, I like the difference in texture to the gooey bit but I was at a cheese tasting in Toulouse (Xavier, awesome shop) this year and the woman who did the tasting was adamant that rind should be cut off because the bitterness masks the taste of the cheese. Quite a few of my French colleagues who I was with disagreed though.

FrangipaniBlue · 28/12/2019 07:42

The reason I married DH is so that I get more of the lovely brie rind because he too, like you OP, is a find hating wierdo.

More ring for me is how I see it

KamikazeIdiot · 28/12/2019 07:48

Cutting the rind off brie doesn't leave very much.

Redwoodmaz · 28/12/2019 07:53

I HATE rind - of any sort! I would have to remove every scrap too. Yuck.

Arthritica · 28/12/2019 07:53

If it’s a bland, unripe Brie (and you’re too desperate to wait for it to ripen) then sure, trim the rind if it annoys you.

For a properly ripe, ready to run away on its own Brie the rind is an important part of the cheese.

Boulshired · 28/12/2019 08:07

I have no problem with people who slice their portion and remove the rind but I do with scoopers (unless cooked fondue style) or double the amount takers to make up for the rind.

LoobyLou1976 · 28/12/2019 18:34

Rind is disgusting and bitter, especially with cheaper bries.

And smelly mouldy blue cheeses are the work of the cheese devil.

Nice mature cheddar, or a guilty cheap smoked cheese here.

Vegan cheese can bugger off (no offense).

Love Brie, hate rind. I also hate Stilton :) dh and I have similar rind arguments

dementedpixie · 28/12/2019 18:42

Pregnant ladies can eat cooked brie/camembert/soft blue cheeses. Hard blue cheeses are fine uncooked

reallychristmasaaagain · 28/12/2019 18:43

Nigella has a lovely blue cheese butternut squash pasta recipe...

longwayoff · 28/12/2019 19:14

Apparently, you can put parmesan rind in the oven where it puffs up into a tasty cheese crisp. Not that I've done it, I always forget. Anyone done this?

reallychristmasaaagain · 29/12/2019 07:36

I may try it - I've put parmesan rind in veg soups before and it does add a nice flavour.

Loop3x5 · 30/12/2019 22:18

At home I leave the rind, but in company I eat it.

Titsywoo · 30/12/2019 22:23

I do eat the rind when I'm slicing the brie and putting it on toast - not keen when it's on crackers for some reason. Parmesan rind goes in bolognese when it's slow cooking.

woodhill · 30/12/2019 22:27

Yuck I cut off the rind.

Had this discussion with dh about exactly the same thing

FairytaleofButlins · 30/12/2019 22:28

It is considered very bad manner to remove the rind when you eat brie, that's all I know!

In your own home, you do what you want. Just don't chose brie when you are a guest somewhere.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 30/12/2019 22:30

I don't like the rind unless the brie is still firm from the fridge, if I can't wait to tuck in. If the brie is all oozy, the rind runs the texture.

LennyPugGoat · 30/12/2019 22:30

Rind is rank imo

Cauliflowerpower · 30/12/2019 22:48

Crikey brie rind is like chalk yuk

Yanbu

SerenDippitty · 30/12/2019 22:54

I like rind. Love all cheeses but my favourites are the white crumbly ones like Caerphilly, Lancashire and Wensleydale. And Roquefort.

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 30/12/2019 22:55

Oh why have I never thought of this, this is the stuff dreams are made of.

PhilomenaChristmasPie · 30/12/2019 22:58

Are you supposed to eat the rind?!

TorchesTorches · 30/12/2019 22:59

I have the same issue with my DH. I have always cut it off as it is rank and has am awful texture. He lectures me about it, but I refuse to eat it. So he feels obliged to eat it, but then moans as the cheese to rind ratio is too great. Don't fecking eat it is my response. But he moans about that. It's crazy.
