To be amazed at your families ability to watch shit film after shit film?

I know it’s the time to relax and watch TV but can’t believe how DH and his family just go from film to film to film. DH will happily watch a random film from the half way point. He also loves subtitles! I’ve really noticed it this Christmas. I dint mind settling down for a good film but my attention span can only cope with one.Yet I’m the odd one out so nobody to play a game with etc. Anyone else like me?!

I'd need to know which films you are calling shit! Half of any film would be annoying - yanbu on that.
I struggle to watch films without checking out first if they have been well reviewed. I'll watch pretty much any genre if it's a decent film and can easily watch more than one in a day.

Zaphodsotherhead · 27/12/2019 18:50

Are they actually watching the film or is it just going on in front of their eyes and giving them somewhere to point their faces?

I refuse to have the TV on when people are round. It's a conversation killer and people will often 'watch' it to have an excuse not to participate in family life. Ask them about what they just watched and they haven't a clue.

MrsGrindah · 27/12/2019 18:57

Yes they all watch the film. Which means no conversation. By “ shit film” I’m of course applying my own judgement and they may be great films in someone else’s eyes, but I mean it’s more about the monotony of it...

The odd film can be nice to watch in the evening with a glass of wine. I could never sit and watch them during the day, my anxiety and depression flares up if I've been in all day watching tv

MrsGrindah · 27/12/2019 19:02

Exactly ..ONE film ..not all afternoon and evening

That would drive me mad, tbh.
If people are round for the day at Christmas, then the TV doesn't go on here (or any of the places we visit). We go to spend time with those people, or you might as well all sit in your own rooms.
It is easy enough to pick up programmes you want to see, later, in any number of ways these days, so no-one needs to miss out,

MorganKitten · 27/12/2019 19:03

We don’t watch shit films...

Angeldust747 · 27/12/2019 19:03

My in laws will watch film after film on Christmas24 or Channel 5, the proper rubbish ones that all have basically the same plot. They don't mind if they have already seen it either. I suppose its part of Christmas to them but I couldn't do it!

MrsGrindah · 27/12/2019 19:03

They dint seem to realise there should be some appreciation of those that don’t want to watch each film...ie let’s watch this film and then play cards etc..It’s just constant channel hopping

I love a shit film, I also always have subtitles on, should I pop over?!

So far today zootopia, the odd life of timothy green (a favourite for me and my son), lion king and we’re about to watch homeward bound!

lilgreen · 27/12/2019 19:06

I can only watch films I am really interested in.So I probably watch about 3 a year!

AllergicToAMop · 27/12/2019 19:06

"shit film" is very subjective. Like I massively enjoy movies by The Asylum. My mum can't stand them.Grin I don't know how can someone not enjoy 2 headed sharksGrin

We did movie Christmas and went through 7(8?) random movies just on Christmas day. Perfect.

letsdolunch321 · 27/12/2019 19:06

Lol ..... this sounds like my exh and his family. Christmas day when we visited I used to take a book to read, it was frowned upon that I read rather than watch films that I had no interest in.

lilgreen · 27/12/2019 19:07

Wouldn’t have TV on if we had guests anyway.

MrsGrindah · 27/12/2019 19:08

Okay maybe I shouldn’t have said “ shit” ...but even so film after film after film is so boring

OP posts:
lilgreen · 27/12/2019 19:08

7 or 8 films on Christmas Day? Isn’t that all day? Did you stop to cook and eat?

Babybel90 · 27/12/2019 19:08

There are very few films that are so bad I won’t watch them, playing cards or family board games is my idea of hell tbh

MrsGrindah · 27/12/2019 19:10

By subtitles I meant films in a foreign language not just putting the subtitles on. Which means you have to sit and read the screen if you want to follow the plot so can’t do anything else

OP posts:
Yoshimi2019 · 27/12/2019 19:10

If it's one day together then having the TV on a lot would bother me too. And I hate background tv. I was envisaging some foreign language films when you said subtitles! Channel hopping and watching whatever happens to come on wouldn't be enjoyable.

BloodyCats · 27/12/2019 19:11

I struggle to watch one film all the way through so god knows how they can watch more!
I’m with him on the subtitles though. There is too much mumbling instead of speaking.

MrsGrindah · 27/12/2019 19:12

Yes I did mean foreign language films!

AllergicToAMop · 27/12/2019 19:12

@lilgreen we did. Cooking was just popping things into the oven basicallyGrin Goose, roasted veg. Simple. We planned it as the laziest day ever. It worked! Feeling so relaxed. Started at 10AM and finished about 1AM.
Best day ever!
I think it was 7🤔

Yoshimi2019 · 27/12/2019 19:12

Cross post! Subtitled films suggests they might be watching something interesting.

lilgreen · 27/12/2019 19:13

My mil comes over and I have to turn the tv off or she will just stare at it and be here hours talking about adverts! She’s one who has the tv on all day in the background. Not sure she’s heard of a radio.

MrsGrindah · 27/12/2019 19:14

Why? Foreign films aren’t automatically more interesting than English language films?
