AIBU to want to set up video surveillance to find out who is using our bin!

For the past few weeks now around 20 cans of John smiths keeps appearing in our recycling bin! Have been away and come back to notice a load more! AIBU to want to set up video surveillance to find out which bloody neighbour is too embarrassed to admit drinking John Smiths 😁!

I think I would have a lot better things to do with my life. Unless the person involved has to break into your house to do this what's the problem?

FrancesFlute · 27/12/2019 17:49

Probably tricky to do. It's sneaky though. I'd be tempted to leave it if your bin isn't made full. I once saw a neighbour come and dump a black bag into our general waste wheelie bin leaving the lid not shut. Our council won't collect if kids are open. Told DH who went and put it back on their driveway. CFers!

*kids are open

FFS, *lids

My alcoholic neighbour used to put his cans in my bin so his wife didn’t know how much he was drinking. It was annoying but I turned a blind eye and would have only said something if it meant my bin was full because of his rubbish.

DontCallMeShitley · 27/12/2019 18:06

A camera or a bin lock, depending on what kind of neighbours you have and how much space you need in your bin.

Maybe a teenager hiding the evidence?

I am more curious than anything! I mean they get through a lot of the stuff ha ha! It’s fine at the moment as it does not over fill our bin but I am creeped out a bit that they come into our driveway to specifically do this. Also I want to make it clear to the bin men I do not drink John smith ha ha! White Lightning Cider all the way in this house 😁

Wait for the bin to be empty then hide in the bin then jump out when they open the lid. Grin (joking)

boeballs · 27/12/2019 19:05

Eggnog.. Ha ha that would be hilarious! If only I had the time in my life and a nice smelling bin to do that.. although I do like the idea of settling up some elaborate jack in the box type prank... hmmm maybe I do have too much time on my hands ha ha

Our ring doorbell caught our neighbour using our bin 😂

MapMyMum · 27/12/2019 19:38

This would really annoy me because we pay by weight and it is a bit sneaky. Mn likes to make out anyone that isnt harming or blocking you is allowed to do as they please, and irl it doesnt work that way

AutumnRose1 · 27/12/2019 19:41

Map are you in the UK?

I’d get a bin lock, they’re useful generally.

MapMyMum · 27/12/2019 19:42

No not in the uk!

LittleGift · 27/12/2019 19:42

Someone just leaves empty wine bottles neatly at the end of our drive. I’d much prefer they put them in our recycling! Also quite impressed that they do recycle after 20 cans of John Smiths. I’d be curious too though.

belay · 27/12/2019 20:12

Bin lock

duvetaddict · 27/12/2019 20:15

Do it!
