Just that really. DS going to his dad in an hour, he's not back til Sunday. So I have the whole day tomorrow, I really just want to stay In cook, eat, drink and watch some films. What would you cook if you had to cook for yourself ? Need some ideas Grin

I have the whole day to myself tomorrow and am wondering the same thing.

Think I need fruit and veg after Christmas, so am thinking: cup of tea in bed enjoying the peace, run, then fruit smoothie for breakfast and a couple of cups of coffee.

Not sure after that. Might do vv hot Chinese chicken thing - can't remember its name but it's so hot it makes me cry and is incredible. Or I might make a vegetable soup - there are leeks in the fridge that need eating.

Or might do Tuscan bean soup which is basically onion/garlic/fresh rosemary, cannellini beans and chicken stock.

Such a nice problem to have. Am also torn over book vs telly. Chores vs putting my feet up.

hidinginthenightgarden · 27/12/2019 17:27

HAlloumi Casserole!

cstaff · 27/12/2019 17:29

Not a bloody thing if I could get away with it. Maybe toast Grin

Ibizafun · 27/12/2019 17:31

I’d cook... crisps and a dipGrin

MulticolourMophead · 27/12/2019 17:32

I think if I had to cook it would be steak. A medium rare steak sandwich on ciabatta, with caramelised onions and fried mushrooms. And a dab of horseradish sauce.

Otherwise, some good bread, mixed meats and cheeses and onion chutney, etc, would be great.

Nutkin123 · 27/12/2019 17:35

Stuffed pasta with a tomato and mascarpone sauce. BF irrationally hates stuffed pasta (why???) so I'd absolutely go to town on it and then drink lots of wine.

EasilyDistracted77 · 27/12/2019 17:36

The last time I was in this position I made a very simple but delicious Greek Lamb Stew with orzo pasta.
I'm going to be in the same position this weekend and I'll either do something with the leftovers in the fridge, or make something nobody else likes to eat. Something fishy maybe.

Boireannachlaidir · 27/12/2019 17:40

I'd have a Bloody Mary on the go all day and baked cheeses, crackers, pickles, chutneys, crisps, olives, celery, honeyed figs with mascarpone and champagne.

Also, a macaroni cheese (nigella recipe) as back up Xmas Smile

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 27/12/2019 17:45

Chili con carne with warm rolls and lots of butter. Ok that's my Saturday sorted too 😁 now to think of something for dh as he loathes chili 🤔

orangejuicer · 27/12/2019 17:50

Another one for takeaway!

Ostanovka · 27/12/2019 17:56

Cinnamon rolls.

AgeLikeWine · 27/12/2019 18:02

I could pretend that I would cook a delicious, beautifully presented threE course dinner just for myself, but I wouldn’t.

What I would do is have a massive cheeseboard with biscuits, grapes, tomatoes, celery and fresh sourdough all to myself. Washed down with a decent bottle of red, of course.

crosstalk · 27/12/2019 18:03

Lots and lots of salad and tomatoes and then kick myself for eating out of season veg from Holland and Spain with all the food miles.

My lazy go to lunch is tinned chopped tomatoes with olive oil, garlic, hot chilli, good bread and a good cheese on the side. And a few anchovies and olives.

AwdBovril · 27/12/2019 18:21

Quinoa cooked with veg stock, & a mixed bean & green salad.
Or, fruit with Greek yoghurt, & some kind of topping - usually cacao nibs, nuts or seeds. TBH this is my usual choice.

Puffinhead · 27/12/2019 18:40

Cheese on toast, shortbread and chocolate.

Myheadisamess31 · 27/12/2019 19:02

I'd have a chinese or a cheese board and a glass of wine

AlohaMolly · 27/12/2019 19:06

Sometimes I have a load of homemade wedges with a fuck load of grated cheese and barbecue sauce. Other times I have butternut squash and goats cheese risotto... but every time I dream of a good Chinese takeaway Grin

Napssavelives · 27/12/2019 19:11

My kids are with their dad and I’ve eaten Christmas dinner left over sandwiches, cheese, chocolate, more cheese, wine and gin. It’s been lovely!

ForInstance · 27/12/2019 19:13

Big batch of chilli and (if I could be bothered) bake some cinnamon buns

SproutsAreForLife · 27/12/2019 19:18

Indian takeaway or a massive pizza half of which I would save for breakfast tomorrow washed down with gallons of red wine.

Or a platter of cheese, crisps, olives, nuts which I could graze on through the evening watching bridesmaids a trashy film.

QueenAnneBoleyn · 27/12/2019 19:42

Baked Camembert with a large glass (or two) of red wine.

It’s yummy, quick and minimal effort.

eatdrinksleep2 · 27/12/2019 20:23

Wow thank you. Got the shopping coming tomorrow morning, so was just adding some of the things suggested here, you’ve reminded me of some of my favourites!

Will be having fish fingers on thick sliced bread with lots of tartar sauce and rocket in the morning/brunch

I also fancy some warm comforting I can just throw together in a pot, so thought of lamb stew/curry

And then just nibble on crisps, cheese and crackers and lots of cups of tea of course Grin

Pizza cooked entirely from scratch. Vegetarian curry. Lamb pie.

Somehow it's entirely fun to spend hours cooking for just me rather than for both of us.

iamyourequal · 27/12/2019 20:32

I wouldn’t cook much, but left alone for a day in the holidays I would eat all the things I love which DH dislikes:
B: tea, coffee & lots of hot buttered toast, in bed.
L: baked potato, salad and prawn Marie rose (dh hates prawns)
AT: tea, sherry trifle & battenburg cake.
D: sushi; cheese and crackers, grapes, humous and tortilla chips. Lots of Prosecco.
I feel I should make this day happen now....Smile

handslikecowstits · 27/12/2019 20:42

Liver with sherry vinegar because DH doesn't like liver or this www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/ng-interactive/2015/oct/16/ruby-tandohs-butternut-squash-and-spinach-casserole-with-herbed-feta-crumble which I am going to make tomorrow because I have some stored that I grew in the summer/autumn and frankly, I'm constipated to buggery and I need the fibre. Xmas Blush
