Just that really. DS going to his dad in an hour, he's not back til Sunday. So I have the whole day tomorrow, I really just want to stay In cook, eat, drink and watch some films. What would you cook if you had to cook for yourself ? Need some ideas Grin

Always mushroom risotto, DH eats almost everything but can't abide mushrooms, I love them

my2bundles · 27/12/2019 16:51

Mince mash and veg.

churchandstate · 27/12/2019 16:53

I’d get a takeaway probably. But if not, pasta in a meat and red wine sauce with far too much cheese.

ODFOx · 27/12/2019 16:53

Perfect bacon sandwich for brunch. Bread lightly toasted, thickly sliced room temp tomatoes, lots of bacon...or however is perfect for you.

fish pie or kedgeree for lunch.

roasted veg for dinner.

Lots of mugs of tea, then a glass of good red in the evening.

Shockers · 27/12/2019 16:54

A lentil shepherds pie, in a little enamel dish, just big enough for me. And lots of nice bits of veg too.

Then crackers and cheese afterwards. 😋

Pipandmum · 27/12/2019 16:55

On my own I wouldn't cook a thing. I don't enjoy it it and certainly not for just me.

Crazyoldmaurice · 27/12/2019 16:56

Carbonara!

But would get a takeaway and save my time on relaxing!

PsychosonicCindy · 27/12/2019 16:56

Nothing at all!
If I didn't have dh or children here I would happily live on cereal and pot noodles.

IsAnybodyListening · 27/12/2019 16:58

Whenever I get this rarity of alone time I either make the spiciest chicken I can manage with a jacket potato, garlic butter, cheese and sweetcorn, OR crispy shredded beef and chow mien from the Chinese.

With wine. And more wine.

easyandy101 · 27/12/2019 16:59

I would try and get a definite answer on how many lamb chops i can eat in one go

catwithflowers · 27/12/2019 16:59

Confit duck leg and potato dauphinoise. And a gin and posh tonic followed by a lovely bottle of wine. With a log fire and a good book or film. Bliss 😊

ChocolateCoins19 · 27/12/2019 17:02

Nothing, I'd get a take away or snack on crap all day.

Bickles · 27/12/2019 17:04

Seafood linguine. Very easy one though, just seafood, linguine and garlic butter

Oblomov20 · 27/12/2019 17:04

Things that Dh doesn't like;

Smoked salmon wrapped asparagus.

Tuna tartare.

To ask if you had the whole Saturday for yourself, what would you cook?
PeonyTruffle · 27/12/2019 17:05

I would get a chinese takeaway or if I really had to cook, I would probably do a chicken thigh traybake thing (thighs, lumps of chorizo, red onion and halved baby potatoes) with sour cream and something really chocolatey for pudding :)

BiddyPop · 27/12/2019 17:05

I sometimes make an olive oil, garlic and herbs rub for a lamb shank and let that sit for a couple of hours.
Baby potatoes, halved, in a sandwich bag with olive oil, lemon pepper, chopped rosemary and garlic granules, shook together and also ignored for a couple of hours if possible.

Lamb roasted long and slow, roasties added long enough to get properly crispy, and usually served either with cauliflower cheese or roasted Mediterranean veggies.

Or a proper curry - from frying onions, garlic and ginger .....
With proper puppodums and tomato salsa on the side.
Any leftovers can be frozen for another night (when solo or others here).

Or roasted chicken thighs, often with thyme and feta under the skin, olive oil and lemon juice pver the top, and some roast potatoes and some veg (maybe steamed French beans or sugar snap peas).

Or a proper risotto (sometimes using leftover chicken or lamb from a previous roast that I had frozen, or dried mushrooms, or a nice handful of fresh seafood...).

Occasionally a proper steak (I usually feel I need some iron) with wilted spinach and some red wine to drink.

I love treating myself when DD is gone off with DH (sports events, visiting DMIL etc,) and I often can’t go because I have Cub Scouts on Saturday’s. It doesn’t happen all that often, but enough that I have my few favorites.

circleorsquare · 27/12/2019 17:08

I'd have a fish finger sandwich on white sandwich loaf (I'd cut the 2 slices) then mature cheddar sliced on top and then tomato ketchup! Good of the gods

NetballHoop · 27/12/2019 17:11

I'd head off to RHS Wisley eat in the restaurant
and spend all day wandering around looking at the plants.

NoMoreMissusNiceGuy · 27/12/2019 17:12

I had yesterday to myself:

Breakfast- toasted christmas tree crumpets
Snack - brown bread toast and marmalade
Lunch - oatcakes and pate
Dinner - bacon sandwich (on white bread toast)
Supper - tortilla chips

Can you tell I don't have carbs very often? Grin

Butterymuffin · 27/12/2019 17:14

Smoked salmon bagel for one meal, deli meats (chorizo, salami etc) olives, nice bread and cheese for another. No actual cooking would happen. If I really wanted hot food, it would be a piece of steak or salmon, either with stir fried veg and noodles or with nice bread and salad.

Milanimilani · 27/12/2019 17:14

Pasta and cheese. No one around to moan that it is boring. I like boring.

drivingtofrance · 27/12/2019 17:16

Nothing.

I am so fed up with cooking (just completed an 8 week fitness and diet plan which required 3 x cooked meals per day, then hosted lots of family for Christmas..

Camembert and crackers with lots of wine would be great.

pallisers · 27/12/2019 17:16

I'd make proper chips with rashers, sausages and beans. with a gin and tonic.

BareGrylls · 27/12/2019 17:16

I have spent 40 years cooking. A day to myself I wouldn't cook.

iklboo · 27/12/2019 17:18

I'd just get crusty bread, good butter, pate, mixed meats, cheeses and posh crisps to have a grazing picnic style tea while I read a good book, listen to music and drink wine.
