AIBU to ask what sex isn't baby?

Savuti · 26/12/2019 23:29

I am pregnant with my second, AIBU to ask if my next baby will be the same sex as my first or more likely (anecdotally rather than scientifically) to be different.

Most sibling sets I know are the same boy/boy or girl/girl.

Do you agree? Or am I getting the opposite sex this time round?

Just for 'fun'

I had boy girl

Underneaththetree · 27/12/2019 00:01

www.ingender.com/gender-info/odds-of-having-another-boy-or-girl.aspx

This has some good clear statistics on whether sex of existing children can influence chance of next baby’s sex.

According to this if you already have one boy then it is exactly 50/50 what the next baby is.

If you already have one girl then you have a 54% chance of the next being a little boy.

Not sure where these stats are from, although it does seem to show that it is always close to 50/50 whatever the situation.

Minky35 · 27/12/2019 00:02

I’ve had boy, boy girl. Hurrah I’ve finally beaten the odds on something Grin

ISpeakJive · 27/12/2019 00:05

I don’t suppose you have a DS now but wondering if you’ll have a girl this time?

Savuti · 27/12/2019 00:06

@ISpeakJive did you not read my previous post?

I had a girl first, sixteen years later a boy then 14 months later a girl

BlueEyedFloozy · 27/12/2019 00:08

We have no pattern in our families, all very random here! We were the first in a line to have a boy first right enough.

My Gran: Girl, girl
DH Gran: Girl, girl, boy
My Mum: Girl, boy, girl, girl
DH Mum: Girl, girl, boy
SIL1: Girl, boy, girl
SIL2: Girl, boy

Me: Boy, girl

KittyMarmalade · 27/12/2019 00:09

@Savuti - you said
Nearly all the sibling sets I know are the same (going on pairs of siblings not 3's 4's etc). I know very few boy girl sibling pairs

Just to add some data to your not-very-scientific survey, of my gang of six best school pals growing up, I'm the only one NOT to have had girl-boy sibling pairs!

Savuti · 27/12/2019 00:14

@KittyMarmalade total opposite to my friendship group! Even through to Uni most of my boy mates had one brother and my girlfriends had one sister!

I think because if this (which seems very skewed experience based on this thread) I'm a little apprehensive of mixed sibling pairs. Most of my experience is about great brotherly bonds or sisters that are very close. I don't have much experience within my friendship or family circles of brother/sister bonds.

PrettyPurpleFeather · 27/12/2019 00:22

Dh's family is a mix of both sexes on both sides.
Mine is the same and we've had a mix of both sexes. My dB has also had a mix of both sexes and his wife comes from a family of mixed sexes.

SexlessBoulderBelly · 27/12/2019 00:25

Your original post is like vocabmath and I have no idea.

Could be a boy, could be a girl..... Or you could be one of those that have a child and let them decide what they are or aren’t... makes buying things for them a bit more difficult though Wink

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 27/12/2019 00:25

My mother was one of five siblings, i was eldest of two girls, one brother had two girls, other brother boy/girl and one sister had two girls.

I have six, boy,girl,boy,boy,boy, girl.

MissPepper8 · 27/12/2019 00:29

I mean it's so random.. We're not finding out but my DH has 3 sisters and I have 2 sisters. My DM is one of 3 girls (my DGM is one of 3 girls) and my DF is one of 2 boys.

We had a boy, I don't know but I feel this may be a boy. Totally random.

mybabyisteething · 27/12/2019 00:34

My mum has 4 girls.
MIL has 3 boys.

Me and DH have boy, girl, boy.

Hellofromtheotherside2020 · 27/12/2019 00:43

Mine are boy, girl, boy, girl. All with same partner.
There's so much that can swing it. Like the distance between when you had sex and the actual conception. Even how stressed you were at the time of conception plays a role. I know so many families with just two children and they're all distributed pretty equally between MM FF and MF/FM.

For fun... There's a Chinese gender predictor calendar online, I know it's off for some people but is 100% accurate for me.

fllinn · 27/12/2019 00:46

I have two boys and assume that DC3 (currently 6 weeks pregnant) will be a boy! Can't imagine having a girl tbh. We've already named him George Grin

christma5isover · 27/12/2019 00:49

I have 3 of the same sex (cue stupid comments about trying for one of the opposite sex).

Or try the pendulum test
Back and forth or side to side for a girl
Circular for a boy.

MyDcAreMarvel · 27/12/2019 01:02

I have GGGBGGBB

Savingshoes · 27/12/2019 01:10

Female sperm are bigger, stronger and can live 72 hours (hence MAP being for upto 72 hours post sex). Male sperm live about 12 hours.
Since ovulation day is such a small window, it's NOT 50/50. You are always more likely to have a female.
What disagrees with this theory is that after mass loss of one sex (ie war, countries wanting only sons etc) more of the least sex is born in that area - baby boomers.

Greende · 27/12/2019 01:13

I had Girl/Girl/Boy. My Mum had Girl/Boy/Girl

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/12/2019 01:29

Mal e sperm swims faster but also dies faster
Fe male Sp erm swims slower but lives longer.

user1473878824 · 27/12/2019 01:55

It is though, literally, 50/50 OP.

KareyHunt · 27/12/2019 02:29

My sister and I are both women, so more support for the fact IMO that if you have two they are very likely to be the same sex.
