Vegan drinks

I gave a vegan relative a gift bag with some spirits and specialist beers in - asked the shop if the beers were run through a fish bladder to refine them. Nope, all good.

Just had a furious text from said relative saying they'd drunk a beer and then checked the can and it contains lactose. Now, I feel that it's up to them to check the label. It would never occur to me that beer could contain lactose so didn't ask the shop, and as a vegetarian I always take responsibility to check labels myself. If I don't, that's on me. I certainly wouldn't contact a gift giver to complain about thoughtlessness! AIBU?

I'm vegan. I'd have shrugged, gone to myself "Ah that's a shame", and definitely NOT called you to complain. Some people are just drama lamas.

My DD is vegetarian and has been bought a big tube of fruit pastles, she said thank you and they are coming my way.

They said they thought I would have checked because they thought I would 'respect their lifestyle choices

Blimey season of goodwill - not! You made an effort - they're ungrateful and rude. All they needed to do was pass them onto a non-vegan/vegetarian.

You tried your best to be supportive.
It’s their problem for not double checking.
Bottle of water next year. They sound very rude!

No one needs meat for health reasons

Unless you want heart disease and cancer, stop eating corpses

Yawn.
You think you're so cutting by calling meat 'corpses'. FYI, for future reference, you're really not.

Yanbu op. Fair enough if they were annoyed but they could have brought it up in a much nicer and more grateful way instead of accusing you of not respecting their lifestyle choice!

Also to a pp. I'm another who eats meat for health reasons.

I eat meat for health reasons too.
