No Christmas gift for baby

It was my baby’s first Christmas and my in-laws didn’t give her any gift, which I found strange as they always send gifts to everyone in the family. Their reason was that they were disorganised and will send the baby something after Christmas. AIBU for feeling a bit hurt by this? I have a feeling it’s because we chose to spend Christmas with my family so my in-laws just didn’t bother. I know gifts shouldn’t be expected, I just though even a card or something for their first grandchild would be the norm? Or AIBU in feeling that this is a little strange?

Be grateful, our DS was overwhelmed with gifts, I know people were being generous and kind but it was just too much ‘stuff’.

It's pointless materialism. Buying for the sake of it for someone who doesn't give a dime about it.

Objectively, the lack of gift sounds neither here nor there for a 6 month old, especially if they get her something at another time. Lots of people don’t buy gifts for babies. However it sounds as though you’re a bit hurt with them generally. Do they seem generous / caring at other times?

Our DD is 10mo and it wouldn't really occur to me to care whether people had bought her gifts or not! She got some from some members of the family, not others, and that's fine. She had way too much as it is and obviously has no idea what Christmas is anyway.

And I just saw they will send something after Christmas so I'm not sure what the issue is anyway. Some of our gifts we won't get till after Christmas and into January for various reasons.

I think YABU. It's a baby! They don't understand xmas and presents. 😅.

I also wouldn't worry about this, its a waste of money at that age. if it continues past age 2 then is the time to be upset
