Bloody police - merry sodding Christmas

More than 2 months ago I made a bloody stupid error and just slipped through a red light in queuing traffic though I had actually noticed that a police car was a few cars behind - I don't make a habit of breaking the law, but it does make it even more stupid. He pulled me over a bit up the road (which was horrible - never happened to me before in 15 years of driving) and I admitted my error of judgement and apologised. In my defense (I didn't say this to him as I didn't want to make excuses) it was awful traffic - we had been stuck there for ages and I was visiting an elderly relative who I rarely see and had to nip out for something and felt guilty and stressed at how long it was taking). It was my fault though I know.

Police man said he had written it up and would send it off but 'hopefully' I would hear nothing back in the light of my apology and clean license. He also checked my tyres as he said they were currently focussing on them but he then made no comment on them.

I had my MOT done two weeks later and it failed on one of the tyres, which I thought was odd but never mind. Weeks went by and I heard nothing then on Christmas fucking Eve came the letter. FFS. I have just logged on to try and book a course and I have less than two months to book it because this has taken more than two months to come through. In order to get it done in time I have a choice of two courses that are within 30 miles of me - I live in a central location between two biggish cities. It's ridiculous - I'm going to have to try and get time off but don't want to risk a refusal as then I'd be stuffed so may decide to call in sick, which is not something 'I want to do.

AIBU to think this is shit? If police think you have made an honest fuck-up they shouldn't 'write it up' and if they do it shouldn't be near enough impossible to book a course you have been offered because they have sat on it for more than 2 months?

Lol, fuck you

Arnoldthecat · 26/12/2019 21:34

Why are people being so mean? Driving is not an exact science and we all make little errors from time to time.

FlamingoAndJohn · 26/12/2019 21:35

There is making a little error and then willingly jumping a red light by checking that nothing is coming which shows the op knew it was wrong.

category12 · 26/12/2019 21:44

It's not the mistake that's causing the meanness, it's the stroppy attitude OP displayed: moaning about the police and about the consequences of what she did.

Lucylou321 · 26/12/2019 22:04

I'm glad you've had your arse handed to you on a plate by the MN population. How dare you refer to our police as "bloody police" I'm actually gobsmacked at your appalling attitude. You fucked up stop trying to make excuses.

When you've had to scrape body parts off the road like the "bloody police" do you might be allowed an opinion on whether or not what you did was wrong. Until then enjoy your course/points and learn to drive/take some responsibility for your actions.

halocompanach · 26/12/2019 22:07

Driving is not an exact science and we all make little errors from time to time.

Choosing to drive through a red light intentionally because she was in a hurry is not a little error, it's an arrogant decision made because she thinks her time matters more than road safety.

YABVU be thankful you got offered a course, it could have been points and a fine or even
Careless Driving if the police were in a mind to.

You jumped a red light, circumstances, road and traffic don't make a jot of different. Your clean licence is probably why you got offered the course. Be thankful for what you have rather than bitching and looking for loop holes and complaining about work etc.

AmIthechristmasfairy · 26/12/2019 22:15

With every post OP, you are coming over more and more arrogant and entitled.

Do the course and stop whinging

namechangetheworld · 26/12/2019 22:15

YABU. And I'm a far from perfect driver - I've been caught (unintentionally) speeding twice and jumped af the chance to do the courses. You fuck up, you need to own it.

MrsRipper · 26/12/2019 22:15

I love threads like this!

OP: I broke the law but should be let off because it wasn't really bad
Everyone else: Don't be stupid
OP: But I was going slowly and the light was only pale red
Everyone else: Don't be stupid
OP: But I have driven for a million years and therefore should be let off
Everyone else: Don't be stupid
OP: Wah wah wah
Everyone else: Don't be stupid

Justaboy · 26/12/2019 22:29

Where i live we have a lot of cyclists. It is considered quite OK to go through red traffic lights and not to have any lights on your bike. The idea is get round on the roads without anyone seeing you, well thats the way it seems like;!(

How much are a set of bike lights the LED ones these days take hardley any current and are easliy removed from said bike when not needed.

However every day you can see this happening the poor old bill are up to fighting other real crime perhaps it needs another civil action enforcment agency to make it happen?

Worst part the offenders are in the main young adults and children .

Make a coment like;

"Oi! get some lights for your bike" results in a reall gobfull of abuse..

Leafyhouse · 26/12/2019 22:29

Actually I think this kind of thing does nothing to endear the police to the public. Every time I hear Police whining about budget cuts, I am somewhat tempted to say 'Sod handing out stupid tickets then'.

AmIthechristmasfairy · 26/12/2019 22:29

@MrsRipper You forgot about the handful of knobs with their twee "oh don't be mean" comments. They always turn up

halocompanach · 26/12/2019 22:31

Actually I think this kind of thing does nothing to endear the police to the public

No, it does nothing to endear arrogant drivers to the public.

I am somewhat tempted to say 'Sod handing out stupid tickets then'.

It's not a 'stupid ticket' when somebody broke the law by choosing to go through a red light or when they are driving a vehicle that is not able to pass the MOT due to having an illegal tyre.

FizzyIce · 26/12/2019 22:38

What’s shit is you jumped a red light , not the way it was handled

Rachelfromfriends1 · 26/12/2019 22:43

Actually I think this kind of thing does nothing to endear the police to the public

On the flip side, the police wouldn’t set a good example if they didn’t stop her. If the traffic was as bad as OP suggested, lots of other drivers would then see the police blatantly ignoring someone driving through a red light. So the public would be wondering why the police aren’t doing their job surely.

category12 · 26/12/2019 22:55

Given the sample of people on here saying the police were right and OP was an arse, I think this kind of thing does endear the police to the public.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 26/12/2019 23:04

Why are people being so mean? Driving is not an exact science and we all make little errors from time to time.

In the real world yes, but not in M.N reality HmmGrin

Osirus · 26/12/2019 23:08

Knowingly driving through a red light is not “a little error.”

Far from it.

spurlingpipe · 26/12/2019 23:10

But officer I only broke the law a little bit Hmm

It's a punishment, it doesn't need to be convenient for you.

15 years with no prior incident doesn't mean you're a good driver, just lucky.

Serendipity79 · 26/12/2019 23:14

Complaints about paperwork taking too long to come? Hopefully it’s because police are busy out tackling crime..... they’re under no obligation to send you it quickly so as not to inconvenience the person who broke the law.

Not noticing your tyre that may or may not have been legal? Not the police officers responsibility - that would be the drivers responsibility

The courses being inconvenient to you? It’s a bloody punishment not an invite for a three course meal.

Your assertions around how safe it was to jump a red light are nonsense.

We lost our brother to a sanctimonious twat who claimed he ran a red because it was perfectly safe and nothing was coming. Except my brother the cyclist who was totally in the right as he had a green light but the driver blamed him for “riding too fast through the green light and I couldn’t see him because he was on a bike not in a car” Nothing to do with him “safely” running the red light.

You deserve the slating you’ve had here

vanillay · 26/12/2019 23:15

As stated above, there is an 80% chance of survival if a child is hit by a car at 30mph

My brother is one of the 80%.
He spent months in intensive care and 15 years on he is nearly 30 still suffering the effects of the head injury he received and how badly his leg was broken

jackstini · 26/12/2019 23:26

OP - glad you are going to take the points and realise that YABVU

Taking a sickie to do the course though just makes you look even more selfish.
Why on earth should your company suffer for your mistake??!!

Grow up, own it and pay the consequences yourself

halocompanach · 26/12/2019 23:26

80% chance of survival = 20% chance of dying.

Those defending the OP, is it acceptable that 1 person in every 5 hit by a car driven by somebody who has intentionally gone through a red light dies as a result?
