Was married to someone for 6 years who did fuck all in or out of the house. He's very workshy and his lack of ambition and laziness killed any love I had for him. I couldn't respect him. Funny enough I was made to feel a 'gold digger' Hmm Never again.

So I'm just curious, what does your DH do for a living?

Footballer

steff13 · 26/12/2019 19:31

My STBX husband doesn't really do anything for a living. He's changed jobs about every two years since we've been together and has had 11 different jobs in the past four years. I think he's currently doing temporary factory work, but I'm not sure. It's a shame, considering how intelligent, creative, educated, and talented he is. He could have done so much more.

My salary is just about 3x what his is, and always has been. It's a conundrum for me, thinking about dating again, because I have very definite financial requirements of a new partner. I've spent 24 years supporting a man, I don't want to do that again. But when I say I don't want to date a man who earns significantly less than I do, I feel like a snob or a gold digger.

heroineinahalfshell · 26/12/2019 19:37

Civil servant. He's quite high up as has worked in his dept 20 years. Earns 2x what i do and is a high rate tax payer. However we both contribute at home and are equals, and, even though he's contributed a lot more to our finances over the past decade, I'm most definitely not a gold digger. I'm with him because he's intelligent, kind,
thoughtful and supportive and we both want the same things in life, not because he earns a good wage.

sqirrelfriends · 26/12/2019 19:47

Would anyone answer if it was something a bit boring?

Can't say what my DH does as not too many people have his specific job title and I have no idea how to describe it.

JKScot4 · 26/12/2019 19:51

I notice a lot of use of the word ‘senior’, you can just say the job no need for the senior or tax references 🙄🙄

CustardOmlet · 26/12/2019 19:56

Mental health nurse. And a bloody good one.

JKScot4 · 26/12/2019 19:56

@Rosehip10
They are using netmums.
in reference to bin men/labourers, I’m hoping that was sarcasm

Retired IT consultant but works 3 days a week for a fairly large but local charity supporting adults with LD. Does anything that needs doing from supporting clients to office based admin and IT management. Earns nothing as voluntary but really enjoys it very much and they are one of the agencies who support our daughter so payback for that as well.

ButterflyBook · 26/12/2019 20:28

Obvs doesn't do it for a living though. I seem to have missed the point.

Silentlysinking101 · 26/12/2019 20:36

Exdh is a painter and decorator

Exdp is an electrical engineer

Dp - head of CI / industrial engineer... Not exactly sure what he does but something to do with process improvements.

Missingmemarbles · 26/12/2019 20:38

Chef too! Nicest, kindest, calmest man you could ever wish to meet. He's very shy too. Works his arse off for us. Shit unsociable hours.

JulesM73 · 26/12/2019 20:48

Computer programmer. Earns enough that means he is really happy In what he does. That to me is more important than earning millions!

TheBigFatMermaid · 26/12/2019 20:50

Works in the despatch department of a small factory!

Also does more than his share in the home, as I'm disabled.

RainbowAlicorn · 26/12/2019 20:53

My DH's a chef.

Bonniegirl435 · 26/12/2019 21:00

My dh owns his own company but spends most of his time as a hgv driver instead of behind a desk as its what he loves.
At home we both pull our weight equally.

FloppyBiffAndChip · 26/12/2019 21:04

What's with all the 'senior ..'! No-one knows you! No need to be stealth boasty!!! Makes no difference whether you or your DH are pilots or 'senior pilots!!' a pilot is a pilot!!! .....

Cremant · 26/12/2019 21:09

Petrochemist (whatever that is - I had to ask his actual title to answer this Confused)

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 26/12/2019 21:10

Tax accountant

Does a lot round the house comparative to a lot of my friends at any rate

AgeLikeWine · 26/12/2019 21:11

Makes no difference whether you or your DH are pilots or 'senior pilots!!' a pilot is a pilot!!! .....

Wrong.

There is a massive difference in levels of responsibility, accountability and salary between a senior training Captain and a junior First Officer.

One operates the controls of the aircraft, under strict supervision at all times. The other is responsible and accountable for the safety of the aircraft and the lives of all on board. If you don’t understand the difference between those roles, you have zero understanding of aviation.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 26/12/2019 21:19

I think youve missed her point age

nsav · 26/12/2019 21:20

He owns his own company selling car lighting :)

TheReef · 26/12/2019 21:21

Kim82 · 26/12/2019 21:24

Mine’s a postman. Not the best paid but it works well around my job (GP receptionist) when it comes to childcare. It works for us.

lovelyjubilly · 26/12/2019 21:28
