I like working on projects. Do something and then tick it off and then start working on something new again.

I'm organised.

I like to also see tangible results. I like being creative though that is more a skill that I would like to develop and use in a work setting which I haven't done before.
I love working on my own though being part of a team is good too but I love being responsible for a chunk of work on my own and getting on with it the way I want. I like to have a certain level of autonomy too.
I like something where you have to learn new skills so it's challenging and changing. I don't mind studying / doing courses.

I'm not good with sales, talking constantly to clients/ customers on the phone etc.

I'm pretty quiet but a really hard worker and I get things done. Not sure if those are skills that are valued much though!

Do you have any idea what I can do?

Event management?

shitshoe · 26/12/2019 13:51

Oh gosh! No I don't think I'd enjoy that at all. I was involved in this year's Xmas whole organisation party and I hated it!

Software development. Lots of jobs within a team although you sound like you'd be a good programmer.

singtanana · 26/12/2019 13:56

Software development is a good shout. Also have a look at business analysis (BCS Diploma) and project management (PRINCE 2 or APM).

VerbenaGirl · 26/12/2019 13:58

Project Manager (look at PRINCE training) or a Data Analyst.

Acciocats · 26/12/2019 14:00

What do you do currently? What are you trained and qualified for? What do you like/ dislike about it? The more you can tell us the better. It’s useful to know your preferences but it would also be good to know what directions your work life has gone in so far

Do a skills health check on national careers service, it will come up with a list of jobs suited to your skills and strengths nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/skills-assessment/skills-health-check/home

Have you considered manual jobs like plumbing, electrical installations, painting and decorating?
Office based - interior designer or accountant perhaps?

TheOriginalChatelaine · 26/12/2019 14:17

I second event management, there are even qualifications you could consider, though joining an existing outfit is, imo, the best place to start. In high demand in tourist areas, wedding planning, charity events etc. Even volunteering through schools & Church. Very satisfying work and if you have an eptitude for organsisation, prioritizing, networking etc it would be ideal. How lovely & exciting! Good luck, go sell your skills!

HR? Business Analyst? Estimator? Bookkeeper

forkfun · 26/12/2019 14:29

Project management, perhaps in a creative field, like publishing or arts.

shitshoe · 26/12/2019 16:10

Project management has come up several times but what exactly is it!? Sorry if stupid question but I have only ever worked in basic admin jobs which I am becoming really bored with. I really haven't enjoyed organising events. I've done all sorts from basic accounts/ bookkeeping to organising / minuting meetings etc. But I just find it all really boring now and want to focus my energy into something new but don't know what. I've finished having kids ( finally!) and would love to concentrate on myself and one of the things is trying to find a job which I enjoy.

Sometimes in my jobs, I've had to design newsletters and posters - nothing snazzy just in Publisher not Adobe or anything and Ive really enjoyed doing that. Maybe a job designing posters? Lol

Window dresser
Graphic designer
Advertising
Wedding planner

LittenKitten · 26/12/2019 16:34

Graphic design
User experience design
Content design - look at Content Design London for courses/examples
Copywriting

(I work in some of the above)

Purpleartichoke · 26/12/2019 16:50

Data analyst

Librarian at general library or at specialized library. Librarians do a lot more than just catalog books these days

ImGoingToBangYourHeadsTogether · 26/12/2019 17:30

Forget libraries. There's a load of voluntary work going in them if you want it, but not much paid. I've looked. IT software development would be my advice too if you can afford the tuition fees for degree. You can learn basic programming alone to try it and see how you get on, but at some point you'll need a degree to get paid work.

Our marketing team regularly do stuff like that.

Accountant

Shoobydoo123 · 26/12/2019 17:54

Project management can be lots of things , but in my world it’s making sure that you organise, manage and control all the teams working on a project to deliver it on time and to cost.

As part of this you have to make sure everything is done in the correct order and that each teams work is combined in the most effective order ( eg you can’t arrange electricians to wire a house before the walls are built) . You also need to manage the risks and reschedule tasks if needed.

Clinical coder in either the NHS or private. You have to do an exam which is quite hard but once done u can earn more. I've passed my exam and am now a band 5. I'll be earning 30k in a couple of years. I love it because their is no patient contact, just work queues to finish before every monthly deadline. I listen to a lot of podcasts whilst working! I'm pushing to be able to work from home soon. There's really no need for me to br in the office. It's the perfect job for introverts.

HereForTheHelp · 26/12/2019 18:08

Data analyst? Lots of design options when doing dashboards in Power Bi or creating reports etc

Lots of time working alone and zoning out but also collaborating on bigger projects. Also get to do courses to keep up with tech etc

It's my job and I love it, would recommend it to anyone!

(The QA course - Analysing data with Power Bi and Excel is really good, it's 2 lots of 3 days then you book exams to become Microsoft certified. It was a good step for me after doing some in-depth excel training)

Product Management - similar to Project in some ways but allows you to immerse yourself completely in a product - which could be literally anything depending on the company obviously and develop it to meet customer and business needs.

Perfect for organised ‘fixers’, there is some customer contact but not like sales level interaction.
