I like working on projects. Do something and then tick it off and then start working on something new again.

I'm organised.

I like to also see tangible results. I like being creative though that is more a skill that I would like to develop and use in a work setting which I haven't done before.
I love working on my own though being part of a team is good too but I love being responsible for a chunk of work on my own and getting on with it the way I want. I like to have a certain level of autonomy too.
I like something where you have to learn new skills so it's challenging and changing. I don't mind studying / doing courses.

I'm not good with sales, talking constantly to clients/ customers on the phone etc.

I'm pretty quiet but a really hard worker and I get things done. Not sure if those are skills that are valued much though!

Do you have any idea what I can do?

I second the Marketing suggestions, which is different from Events Management. The latter does not sound suited to your personality.

Marketing campaigns require you to extract and analyse data to target your market. I imagine there will be some creativity involved e.g. whether it will be traditional advertising, social media or email or events-driven and how the marketing splash should look.

I am not in Marketing and hope someone in the field could weigh in as to whether I am completely off track.

Average Librarian salary is £36,000 and it goes up quite a bit if you work in a specialized library or at a University. The librarian of today is not the librarian of yesteryear.

You need a degree and postgrad to be a librarian, you'll be looking at low £20,000s for years, our local authority head librarian earns £34,000 and he's been in the job decades (granted it's a small local authority) Our LA libraries were decimated and there is only 2 qualified across the whole county despite having tens of libraries, gone are the days where you have a librarian at every branch. University librarian roles are fiercely sought after.

shitshoe, could I suggest Compliance, which is my field.

It is not obviously creative hence I hesitated but since you are considering data analyst and software engineering, I don't think it is to far off.

Compliance requirements are different depending on which industry (e.g. banking and financial services) and field you are in. Anti-money laundering and data protection are two areas which apply across many sectors. You might be involved in implementation (analysis and recording data) or projects to develop systems (and learn new compliance requirements and translate that into systems) and embed behaviours. You might give training. There are courses you can take and you will mostly learn on the job.

I know lots of librarians (go me Grin) and the job market is terrible. I would not recommend.

blueshoes · 28/12/2019 18:38

For career upside, I recommend you choose a field that is growing i.e. compliance, not a field that is dying i.e. librarians (sorry Laurie, my sister is a Uni librarian so I sympathise) or publishing.

I have been wrong-footed before in an area that went out of fashion and had to re-tool in a hurry. Choose wisely before you invest time and effort.

I’m a stay at home mum now but my previous career was Health and Safety with elements of project management in that field and I’d say I have a similar skill set to you.

You could start with health and safety administrator positions and work your way up. I’ve got a nebosh diploma but you can do a nebosh general certificate as a starting point which can be done in weeks and lots of employers in this field will fund.

Business analyst - works between the project manager, technical bods and the operation - usually on a specific piece of a project.

GrumpyHoonMain · 28/12/2019 20:10

Sorry but if you don’t talking to clients then project management in the UK at least is not a good idea .Suggest you try a profession where you can get away with minimal client (both internal and external) contact - perhaps a clerical role in finance?

Justwanttotravel · 28/12/2019 20:12

Funeral arranger

blueshoes · 28/12/2019 20:43

Project management in my organisation (law firm) requires you to corral a lot of people to do stuff that is not necessarily their day job. It requires meetings, conference calls, emails and cajoling and getting tough sometimes.

Good project managers have good organisational and people skills and of course whatever technical understanding of their project area as is necessary.

LH1987 · 28/12/2019 20:52

Hi OP, the title Project MANAGER can be a bit misleading. Doing project management does not necessarily mean you are leading the project or managing a team of people. You could just be part of a team doing for instance a change project. Anyway, if project management was something you were interested in you would start as an assistant in a team and build your confidence till you could lead on a project (Could take several years).

Would you consider something in marketing? Supporting marketing campaigns is similar to supporting in projects and its a real chance to be creative.

Teaching.

Tonii1985 · 28/12/2019 21:25

(you described all the skills needed for my job and I'm a secondary school teacher)

Macca84 · 28/12/2019 21:26

Project Management or procurement I reckon. Or QS?

MaggieFS · 28/12/2019 21:29

Are there ever event management jobs which don't require evening or weekend work?

Sindragosan · 28/12/2019 21:32

Auditing? You need to be fairly pedantic as well as detail focused, but plenty of internal and external auditors around.

shitshoe · 28/12/2019 21:39

I'm always looking online for jobs and have never come across document controller jobs! OlaEliza

I have a cousin who is a librarian and know that she has a relevant degree and masters etc and there are never any jobs advertised in my local authority for librarians so that's definitely a no but thank you for the suggestion! I think I would have liked that as a job though! Shame the profession is sort of dying out.

blueshoes yes good tip.

GrumpyHoonMain blueshoes I definitely don't think I have the personality to be a project manager!

shitshoe · 28/12/2019 21:46

Tonii1985 I thought you were being cheeky!

OP posts:
shitshoe · 28/12/2019 21:48

Macca84 you know, I did see a local job for procurement and I might apply for it. I'm not sure much about it though! So will have a Google. What is QS?

With they way you describe yourself your the type of person I hire to be part of my events team who organise workshops, open classes, competitions and help organise shows within my Performing Arts school I own. Although my events team do not work normal hours as events can be nights, days, weekends or run for a week at a time meaning very longs hours them weeks.

OublietteBravo · 28/12/2019 21:53

Do you have a science degree? If so, then I’d recommend looking at a career as a patent attorney. I retrained when the kids were small (formerly an R&D scientist) and I’ve never regretted it. It’s very well paid and office hours only (at least it is once you’re qualified). Be warned - the professional exams are notoriously difficult though.

Isithometimeyet0987 · 28/12/2019 21:54

Just to add although your the person I’m looking for in how you describe yourself you would need qualifications to back up your skills and qualities
