I like working on projects. Do something and then tick it off and then start working on something new again.

I'm organised.

I like to also see tangible results. I like being creative though that is more a skill that I would like to develop and use in a work setting which I haven't done before.
I love working on my own though being part of a team is good too but I love being responsible for a chunk of work on my own and getting on with it the way I want. I like to have a certain level of autonomy too.
I like something where you have to learn new skills so it's challenging and changing. I don't mind studying / doing courses.

I'm not good with sales, talking constantly to clients/ customers on the phone etc.

I'm pretty quiet but a really hard worker and I get things done. Not sure if those are skills that are valued much though!

Do you have any idea what I can do?

If library jobs appeal, look at information professional jobs that involve information literacy or management, more current and flexible than librarianship and opens doors to multiple different career paths (usually less prescriptive with qualifications too being emerging careers). Information and data is a core business asset so opens a lot of doors.

Sorry I missed the bit about not liking to talk to customers, that’s very important in an events teams

I'm a sixth form teacher of Economics and I use all those skills! I also edit an alumnae magazine for the school, making use.of skills from my former role in marketing.

I did freelance project work for a while and I really don't miss the self-marketing and pitching required to make a decent income.

Don't rule out education - as a PP poster said, maybe private school marketing if teaching doesn't appeal.

Try local government, it's often very independent project based and there are loads of different roles that might be suitable depending on your interest/experience.

Wow, I didn't realize that libraries were so different in the UK than in the USA (which is where I am located). Libraries are transforming here and there are definitely jobs. I volunteer at a Law Library and they are often looking for staff at different levels.

BacktoMA · 29/12/2019 08:52

@SofiaAmes UK librarianship isn't keeping up with the digital age (largely due to austerity cuts in public libraries) but also I think other professions, largely IT, are filling the gap where in the US librarians have been quicker to diversify in the new information era.

Jinglebellissimo · 29/12/2019 09:00

Based on what you’re saying I’d suggest marketing.

SofiaAmes · 29/12/2019 09:38

@BacktoMA Thanks for that info. I am a bit of a library fanatic and and have definitely kept up with the digital age and am so delighted that libraries have too....it hadn't occurred to me that that wasn't happening in the UK (which seemed to me to be similar to the US in terms of library usage, vs. when I tried to find a local public library once in Italy and no one had any idea of what I was talking about). Private donations and corporate giving have filled many of the gaps in public library funding here...although perhaps it's partially due to all the wonderful things happening at libraries putting them in a different light in the public eye.

Payroll is a great job for someone with your skill set. Each payrun is like managing a small project, making sure everything has been picked up and calculated correctly. It's a lot more complex than people give it credit for.
Then each month you finalise and tick it off and then plan for the next one. Often there will be project work in between with things like system changes, HMRC changes and process changes.

I've done it for 15 years now and worked up from payroll admin with no experience to a payroll manager. It's a great career and I love it!
