Only do it for the presents.

Next year we are going holiday (to get away from in-laws).

bigchris · 25/12/2019 13:16

Can't wait for your kids mumsnet threads about Christmas in 20 years time my mother ruined every Christmas with her killjoy ways and desperation to prepare for the sales

How do you prepare for the sales anyway ?

It’s the first day of Christmas today! Let the merriment begin!

Spacerader · 25/12/2019 13:18

There is being efficient and then there is being a complete kill joy. If you wanted the decs down that much I would have at least waited until the kids were in bed.

Christmas is only just started here, the children are just finishingshowers and changing into nice clothes, dinner is cooking. Dinner last ages as we do our separate courses over a few hours rather than one sitting. The dsc come around at 3, for dessert with us and more presents, and more presents for the DC we keep back so they can all open together.

And boxing day is another day of visiting family eating and opening presents.

I agree with pp your house at christmas doesn't sound fun at all.

PristineCondition · 25/12/2019 13:18

Pure bolloxs

bigchris · 25/12/2019 13:19

Are you okay op?

lboogy · 25/12/2019 13:22

We've had Christmas dinner. Next desert. Hopefully everyone is gone by 6/7pm
I'm with you OP

countdowntochristmas · 25/12/2019 13:24

Miserable !! I'm off to enjoy the day .

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 25/12/2019 13:25

We aren't having Christmas dinner until this evening!

Had picky bits and cheese and crackers for lunch.

It'll take DH a day to get all the deccies down.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 25/12/2019 13:28

I mostly agree with you OP; however, I am going to enjoy today for all the nice food and drinks and atmosphere. Tomorrow it will all be over and we can start to look forward again! Decorations come down on New Year's Day - evenings are already starting to draw out - hooray!!!

madcatladyforever · 25/12/2019 13:29

I think this is the most depressing thread I've ever read.
When I was a single mum with no money I went all out to make Chrsitmas nice for my son. Saved all year for his present, made the house look really special. Didn't take any decorations down until 12th night and read lots of lovely traditional Christmas books and watched Christmas movies together, he loved it.
If I'd ripped down all the decorations straight after lunch he would have been devastated.
He loved our Christmases, how is this special for the children?

Oakenbeach · 25/12/2019 13:31

Prepping for sales... You know, choosing what to wear, planning out itinerary, working out what to buy, settling on route and car park, making sure I have the change for car park etc... If planned for properly I can be one of the first there, have it all done and be back in good time for lunch, all ticked off on my calendar for another year.

All this "oh but it's the FIRST day of Christmas" nonsense might have been fine in the Victorian times when they didn't put up with adverts on the telly since 1st Nov and everyone going full on nuts since 1st December.

We won't be eating dinner until 6pm as usual. But as far as i'm concerned, today is "Christmas" and tomorrow is not Christmas any more. Tree will be down probably on the 30th. I'm not having it hanging around into the New Year. having so many decorations that it means a whole day to take them all down sounds horrendous.

QueenoftheBiscuitTin · 25/12/2019 13:33

Ok Scrooge

Stayingstrong24 · 25/12/2019 13:33

Everyone feels differently.
Just get on with it.

adaline · 25/12/2019 13:34

Good lord OP, is that really how you want to spend your Boxing Day? Hmm

missyB1 · 25/12/2019 13:34

I’m glad so many people are saying they haven’t had dinner yet, I’ve been feeling a bit stressed because ours won’t be ready till 3pm. Lots of snacks and drinks to keep everyone going though!
OP why the rush? Don’t you like Christmas?

EmrysAtticus · 25/12/2019 13:34

Wow your poor kids. We have done presents and a walk along the coast. Now settling down for food. Then this afternoon will be playing games and watching Christmas TV. We are all looking forward to playing all the new games together as a family. Decorations won't come down until the New Year.

Ludways · 25/12/2019 13:35

Efficient isn't doing everything early, efficient is getting your timing bang on.

I suspect it's a piss take anyway.

Elbeagle · 25/12/2019 13:35

You sound fun.
Christmas here lasts until the children go back to school. No bloody shopping, did enough of that in December.

Snoopdogsbitch · 25/12/2019 13:36

Soulless- your poor children. Mine are playing with their presents, dinner is on and I'm just about to go for a lovely nap, post mince pie. Celebrations go on in this house past Hogmanay- family, friends, food, games, laughter- you know, having fun?

lakequeen · 25/12/2019 13:36

Been on the Sherry eh, OP.

It's only just begun Wink

madcatladyforever · 25/12/2019 13:37

Is your whole life a tick box OP. Is there any joy in it?

Deadringer · 25/12/2019 13:38

Definitely a piss take after ops update
