DH is making himself ill because he always has to be right

After a bit of a hunt this morning, I've just located a whole raw chicken in our car after DH obviously forgot to bring it in with the rest of the food shopping on the morning of the 23rd December (I had gone out to a different shop for a few more little bits in my car so he was left to do the unpacking from his car).

I am clearly annoyed and insisting the slightly green chicken is bad now but he is adamant it's fine as leaving the chicken in a cold car for two days is as good as leaving it in the fridge apparently. No idea on the temp here but it's been raining/a bit sunny here in Wiltshire during these last two days.

I'm certain he's just saying this because he's a stubborn person who, if I said the grass was green he'd argue that it was pink. Doesn't do it to anyone else, just me. He always has to be right. I've said the chicken is bad and so he's insisting it's perfectly fine to eat and is now cooking it. I'm pissed off knowing there's a strong possibility he's going to ruin boxing day being sat on the toilet the whole time which is just great when we have two young children. Is he bu for eating it or aibu (it is safe and I should leave him to it)?

Food poisoning can apparently take a couple of days to kick in. According to the environmental health when I ate something dodgy. So he’s not out of the woods yet.....

minipie · 25/12/2019 23:12

TBH I reckon if it looks, smells, feels and tastes fine, and is cooked through at a high temperature, it’s likely to be fine.

However I wouldn’t ever have risked it on other people or at Christmas.

Let’s see...

ohfourfoxache · 25/12/2019 23:17

Stupid, stupid man - if he is really ill then it might well end up with a hospital trip being hooked up to fluids

You married a fuckwit

TitsInAbsentia · 25/12/2019 23:30

Just checking in to see if his arse has fallen out yet...also wondering how many toilets you have in your house?!

Oh dear! Hoping you have a quiet night

HannaYeah · 25/12/2019 23:31

Put it back in the car and tell him you don’t want possibly contaminated meat in the refrigerator you and the children eat out of?

Kidding! But I think I’d throw it away tonight,

Celticrose · 25/12/2019 23:32

I knew of someone who got really bad food poisoning at their hen do. Ended up in hospital and couldn't stand at their wedding. The honeymoon had to be cancelled.
Basically he is playing Russian roulette eating the chicken. He may be ok as in Murphy's law but if it was green/grey it doesn't look good. How did it look and smell after cooking. I have bought chicken which was still in date and when I opened it at home after being stored in fridge smelt absolutely minging. Straight to the bin and disinfected anywhere it had been.

MissConductUS · 25/12/2019 23:42

My DH left a package of raw chicken breasts in the boot of the car for a couple of days last month. It was quite cold here but they smelled odd so he binned then. He's a smart man.

honeyloops · 25/12/2019 23:44

I will be so annoyed on your behalf if he doesn't get the shits.

ActualHornist · 25/12/2019 23:44

If it was me I would just throw it in the bin, squirt some washing up liquid on top as he sounds the type to fish it out.

I have been known to cook questionable meat when I’m not sure if it’s ok. But I’ve also been known to bin it straight away.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/12/2019 23:45

Placemark.

DarwinianMinion · 25/12/2019 23:49

Annoyingly he’ll probably be fine.

maisienminnie · 25/12/2019 23:51

He is going to make anyone who eats it really ill. Throw it out.

Excited101 · 25/12/2019 23:54

Please be aware that if he does get food poisoning, that it’s contagious. So you guys could catch the illness from him even if you haven’t eaten the chicken.

AnyOldPrion · 26/12/2019 00:11

TBH I reckon if it looks, smells, feels and tastes fine, and is cooked through at a high temperature, it’s likely to be fine.

I think so too. I think there’s every chance he’ll be fine. This is unfortunate perhaps, because it’s really silly to risk it.

Was it really green???

🤢

DrivingMsCrazy · 26/12/2019 00:19

Also on poo patrol Grin

cyclingmad · 26/12/2019 00:51

What an idiot!

A chicken costs what, £4 maybe even £6. Is that all he thinks his health is worth? How stupid then.

PanicAndRun · 26/12/2019 00:58

Odds are he'll be fine which is frustrating as fuck as it will only reinforce his stupidity and childish behaviour. It's all kinds of fucked up to put his health at risk just to prove a point. Does he get a kick out of it playing Russian roulette? Does he engage in any other type of reckless/possibly dangerous behaviour?

Some people have a stronger constitution than others and the chicken might've been fine. OH throws a lot of stuff away and just asking him if something smells iffy is enough for him not to touch it. He's also obsessive over best by dates, how long things are left etc. I'm less so ,but then again I never get stomach bugs and only got slightly ill from bad food once. On the other hand he gets the shits at least monthly, and has had various d&v bugs.
There's no way in hell I'd touch that chicken even if it looked/smelled fine.

OrangeSwoosh · 26/12/2019 01:18

12-48 hours for food poisoning, so the real shitwatch is only just beginning.

I think after 47 hours it's time for OP to unleash the laxatives Crown Grin

Shesalittlemadam · 26/12/2019 01:36

LAXATIVES!!!!!! After 48 hours has passed and if yes still ok - crack out the laxatives!

metalmutha · 26/12/2019 01:44

Men are such nob eds

TreeTopTim · 26/12/2019 05:20

In this situation he will probably be fine. That would piss me off so much because then he will think it's ok to do this regularly.

I never wish anyone gets unwell but I really hope that he does.

GeePipe · 26/12/2019 06:00

Ew! Thats utterly vile! What a stupid man. My dp likes to be right on everything and even he would have chucked it away without even opening it.

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/12/2019 06:38
