I will be very grateful! Ds has made the pastry but has voiced concerns about the jarred mincemeat containing palm oil which he is trying to avoid (with my support)

Make your own?
Thursday Cottage?

Is it hard to make? I’ve got some spices to use up.....

Make your own! Get proper suet from a good butcher.

MustardScreams · 22/12/2019 18:56

Meridian do an organic mincemeat that is palm oil free. Amazon might be a good bet for that.

katy1213 · 22/12/2019 18:57

It is the easiest thing to make. Tip ingredients in a bowl and stir!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/12/2019 18:58

If you have the time, @Iturnedmyfaceaway, you could use Delia’s recipe and make it - you mix up all the ingredients, and cook in the oven for 3 hours, so the suet melts and coats the rest of it - this makes it keep.

The recipe is here.

This is a great recipe for a quick mincemeat. I’ve used it loads. I leave it to sit for 36 hours and it’s delicious.

Is he veggie? Nigella has an easy suet-free mincemeat recipe!

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 22/12/2019 19:01

Oh my! I’ve never seen that meridien one before, looks fab!

whyamidoingthis · 22/12/2019 19:02

I know you asked for jars but it is really easy to make. The hard part is the pastry and you've already made that.

I've just made Nigella's today. It took about 5 minutes of effort and about 25 minutes of cooking (not including the baking of the pies).

This is the one I made (it has cranberries in it) - www.nigella.com/recipes/star-topped-mince-pies but you can use grated apple instead. It's delicious.

Iturnedmyfaceaway · 22/12/2019 19:33

Oh god this sounds delicious!

So the palm oil is in the veggie suet? And I can ask my local butcher for ordinary suet?
