Is this a genuine error? Ocado- champagne

I know it’s a first world problem.
I ordered 6 bottles of Veuve and they’ve delivered 3 bottles & 3 bottles of similar looking Prosecco. Not as a substitution, nothing mentioned, difference in price is about £25 a bottle

Is this a genuine error? Ocado- champagne

What benefit would the packer get out of giving you the cheaper one on purpose? Not like they get to pocket the money themselves..
on that reasoning, and the fact they look reasonably similar, I would hope it was a genuine mistake.
That or they ran out of VC and tried to fulfil the order out of laziness and hope you wouldn’t notice..

Either way, yeah I’d get my money back.

The pickers are robots, not people.

Ocado don’t have pickers,it’s automated.

oh I had no idea the pickers were robots - clearly the robots were trying to foist crappy prosecco on you thinking you'd not notice the difference - idiots!

It’s not like she can give it to her guests so what is she supposed to do with it?

Of course she can give it to her guests. It’s cheap fizz, not cyanide.

Seems there are some people at the Ocado warehouse. You are quite sure she’s not a robot @thequeenofsandwich?

Nothing like a browse on mumsnet to remind you that you're poor is there Grin.

It's a busy time of year OP so since you had already spoken to the only people that would have actually known (ocado customer services) then whilst I'm sure it is a pain I think I'd be grateful I was able to spend hundreds of pounds just on champagne for christmas, that is more than most have to spend on Christmas in entirety let alone the drinks. Perhaps have a google to find somewhere that might like the prosecco as a raffle prize- or ask around to see who might like it. We don't drink so pass all our gifted alcohol on to a local animal charity for their use in raffles. It was only a case of googling and a couple of calls to see if they would like it.

Thanks for the laugh those who think prosecco is the equivalent of poison and that it is 'really' hard to dispose of alcohol Confused. If you can't be bothered to give it away or be associated with it in case the guests think you're poor- pour it down the sink and recycle the bottle Xmas Hmm

Being so suspicious that you wouldn't assume this was a mistake is a bit odd really.

I'm sure you'll all cope with a bit of prosecco. There are other places to buy prosecco, or argue with customer services for a free delivery slot to get the veuve. YABVVVVVU for posting about it instead of just dealing with it.

Eh?

OP has 3 free bottles of Prosecco and is SHORT of the actual product she ordered, with very little time to arrange a reorder in time for Christmas.

How is that great customer service?

I have already said. They could have asked her to return the bottles as they have refunded her. She has been compensated well for not receiving her full order. That is great customer service. She has 4 whole days to get three more bottles of Champagne if she wishes.

And I’m still trying to find where the OP hasn’t said that she or her guests don’t drink Prosecco so I am not sure why other posters are saying she even wants to be rid of the free bottles! Grin

Have you reordered the champagne? I’d be really annoyed about this, regardless of whether you’re allowed to keep the prosecco... it’s not what you ordered!
Ocado have really gone down hill recently.

Ocado still have Christmas slots - just order more expensive bubbly since the Prosecco is just evil lemonade

At £10 a go.

... why should she have to pay more to correct Ocado's mistake?

Report
Aridane · 21/12/2019 17:01

@Doesnt - Ocado will waive the delivery charge, they always do when it's their error

I'd get on to them straight away, someone has made a mistake and there shouldn't be any problem getting it rectified. At the very least they should refund the cost of the 3 bottles you ordered but didn't get.

Also, if you wonder about what kind of person clicked the YABU option, at least one of them was me, fat fingering it in haste.

I have reordered the 3 bottles, I have another order for Xmas eve, not sure if I’d have insisted on redelivery if I didn’t hand that. They are on offer, nowhere else has that offer.
I have 10 people coming for dinner, another 8 for drinks. Only one will move on to Prosecco. I already had one on for her. We’ve always had champagne on Xmas day, at my parents too. Obviously a special occasion! I don’t really drink otherwise.
One is to take to a party on Boxing Day.

I would wager that if someone could spend approx £250 on champagne, they could safely wait for the refund to be processed without leaving themselves skint.

I would also assume it was a genuine mistake due to busyness at this time of year.

Some people save all year for their Christmas treats - l personally would be pissed off if this had happened to me, Veuve Champagne is expensive and a yearly treat for some.

Only one guest will drink the Prosecco? Oh man. We move in very different circles OP! Make some cocktails with it, get a bottle of creme de cassis and make Kir Royales!

Ocado orders are not picked my humans. They are picked by a very sophisticated robot system. There are videos on YouTube, the process of amazing!

I’d try and offer the Prosecco to anyone, who can’t tell the difference.

Wow just wow.
