Is this a genuine error? Ocado- champagne

I know it’s a first world problem.
I ordered 6 bottles of Veuve and they’ve delivered 3 bottles & 3 bottles of similar looking Prosecco. Not as a substitution, nothing mentioned, difference in price is about £25 a bottle

Is this a genuine error? Ocado- champagne

I think it will be a genuine error.
Its not like people wouldn't notice, nor is it hard to ask for and get a refund with Ocado, even if not spotted immediately.

Easy mistake to looking at both bottles, especially if looking at them from above - gold wrapper and yellow labels.

Spitsandspots · 21/12/2019 11:54

That’s why I was asking if you thought it was feasible for someone to mix up the two bottles

Definately. Pickers are on the clock, they have to pick each order within a certain time. Stores are heaving, everyone is busy, they have hundreds more orders than usual. They pick one bottle, scan it 6x to clear the product off the screen then grab the rest of the bottles before rushing to get the next item.

bigbubbles · 21/12/2019 11:54

Ocado is picked from a warehouse- unlikely these items would be adjacent. May have been an initial shelving error but less likely a picking error.

Petrichor11 · 21/12/2019 11:55

YANBU to want what you paid for. I think it probably is just a genuine error, they look very similar and it’s the busiest time of year. Wouldn’t surprise me if supermarket pickers are targeted on accuracy so would want to avoid errors.

ChloeDecker · 21/12/2019 11:57

Does it make a difference though, if it’s a genuine error or not, as you now have 3 free bottles of Prosecco! Great customer service there!

BonnyConnie · 21/12/2019 12:06

@ChloeDecker really? Now she has to go out a get additional champagne, wait 10 days for her money back and she has three bottles of Prosecco to dispose of. Fine if she drinks Prosecco but I only know one person who does and not in such vast quantities. It’s not like she can give it to her guests so what is she supposed to do with it?

QuillBill · 21/12/2019 12:09

Don’t Ocado use robots for pickers, not humans. I’m sure I read that when one of their warehouses burnt down.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 21/12/2019 12:11

Stores are heaving

Ocado doesn't pick from a store, it's from warehouses.

Eh?

OP has 3 free bottles of Prosecco and is SHORT of the actual product she ordered, with very little time to arrange a reorder in time for Christmas.

How is that great customer service?

aroundtheworldyet · 21/12/2019 12:16

Prosecco is fine for cocktails
Like Campari spritz
Buck’s Fizz

It’s hardly a hardship to get rid of FREE ALCOHOL

No but it's a real good inconvenience not having the actual thing you ordered.

ChloeDecker · 21/12/2019 12:19

She can give them as gifts, sell them or donate them if she wants BonnyConnie
My point being from my post is does it matter if it’s a genuine error or not, because this is what she is focusing on, rather than worrying about what to do with them. I cannot bring myself to believe that this is deliberate from Ocado. Likely to be human or technical error. These things happen and has been dealt with fairly, in my opinion. She could have been asked to give them back after the refund after all.

aroundtheworldyet · 21/12/2019 12:19

I just couldn’t get worked up over this. And to be honest I don’t think the OP is!!

Megan2018 · 21/12/2019 12:20

My refunds from Ocado have always come back really quickly, usually a max of 2 working days.
Some of my order was missing recently (left in the van) and I got the money back On credit card really fast plus a £10 voucher.

I’ll be leaving them for Waitrose once they switch to M&S but always found their customer service to be great at rectifying mistakes. Unlike some others (I’m looking at you Tesco and Asda Angry). I’m sure this is genuine.

I wish we had Veuve this year - alas mat leave budget means prosecco only here!

Aridane · 21/12/2019 12:33

Refund will come through quicker

A genuine mistake

And, yes, when they screw up, they usually let you keep the item they delivered in error. And, oh, the hardship, the hardship of poor OP having to dispose of x3 bottles of Prosecco 🥂

bigbubbles · 21/12/2019 12:33

It is really hard to get rid of unwanted alcohol- cant sell it as you need a licence and food banks dont take it.

Megan2018 · 21/12/2019 12:40

Not hard to get rid of booze around here- there’s loads of fetes and events that want donations of bottles.

SourAndSnippy · 21/12/2019 12:52

Lol.

Petrichor11 · 21/12/2019 12:54

I suspect the hardship so to speak is the fact that OP is MISSING three of the six bottles that she actually ordered and paid for, rather than three free bottles of something she didn’t want.

I don’t think it’s anything other than a mistake, but I understand why OP is annoyed

CottonSock · 21/12/2019 12:56

I imagine the pickers are possibly not trained in champagne. The bottles look quite similar.

thesunwillout · 21/12/2019 12:57

AutumnRose1 😆

UnfamousPoster · 21/12/2019 12:59

I suspect the picker really didn't have a clue. Probably only scanned the first VC bottle they picked up 6 times, rather than each bottle individually.

I bought a bottle of VC for someone in a Tesco Express the other day and it was held behind the counter. The lady that served me really didn't know what I was asking for so I had to direct her to it then she actually gasped out loud when the price rang up on the till!

Good that you're getting your refund OP. Save the prosecco for when you've drunk the VC and are too drunk to be concerned with the quality!

MrsWhites · 21/12/2019 13:02

I also think genuine error, they look quite similar. I understand the frustration that it’s inconvenient to have to go and purchase more champagne but on the bright side someone in your family/friends may drink Prosecco and you can gift it to them.

And OP you must be a great host for Christmas if you provide 6 bottles of veuve!

Glittercandle · 21/12/2019 13:04

Ocado have machines that do the orders. Perhaps the delivery driver made the mistake picking the wrong order out of the van - someone else will probably get your champagne for the price of processco.
