Would you be sad if the Queen died?

I've just been reading the thread about Prince Phillip going into hospital and a poster said they wouldn't be sad if the Queen passed, as she doesn't actually know who we are.

I'm not a royalist by any means and I don't know how I'd feel if the news broke that she died.

How would you feel?

I’d be sad in a nostalgic and end of an era way. I feel quite certain she will live to be at least 100.

PlasticPatty · 20/12/2019 22:42

I would feel sad. I am old and she has been there, doing the Queen thing, all my life. I have a lot of respect for her, for the work she has done, for her commitment and dedication, for her spiritual leadership. She's put real effort into a role she acquired. When her uncle didn't step up, her father did and consequently, it fell to her to step up, too. Actually, I do feel deep respect. And some affection. I must be a natural 'subject'!

Sarahandco · 20/12/2019 22:43

I think we could do without it happening now to be honest

666onmyhead · 20/12/2019 22:43

Ofcourse she's a legend

icantchoosejustone · 20/12/2019 22:43

Just read Prince Phillip is fighting a flu-like illness and was taken by helicopter. That will be difficult to recover from at that age.

I’ll be extremely sad, the Queen is an amazing woman.

wellthatwasthat · 20/12/2019 22:44

You don't have to know someone personally to be sad at their passing.

24hourshomeedderandcarer · 20/12/2019 22:44

not one bit

wouldnt bat a eye lid if any of them did tbh(excluding children of course)

Yes I'd be sad but only in the kind of low key way I'm sad about anyone who has passed that I don't know. I'd think oh that's sad and have empathy for her family but I wouldn't feel personal grief.

1Morewineplease · 20/12/2019 22:44

Yes I’d be sad as she represents so much and has been very hard working. However, I’m not happy with what would come after her.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 20/12/2019 22:45

Yes. She's always been there

montmatre · 20/12/2019 22:46

No - not looking forward to being bombarded with the media coverage/inane conversations at work.

Apolloanddaphne · 20/12/2019 22:47

I would be very sad. She represents an era which cannot be replicated.

Bodyposiftw · 20/12/2019 22:47

Considering she has been living a long, full life, what is there to be sad about unless you know her?
Nothing against the Queen at all, but I wouldn't be sad.

DieSchottin93 · 20/12/2019 22:47

I don't think I'd be devastated but I'd be sad - like several PPs have said she's been a constant in a lot of our lives and it will be strange when she's no longer with us.

The Guardian has an interesting long read about what will happen when she passed away. Everything is planned down to the last detail including the playlists the radio stations have prepared.

Gwenhwyfar · 20/12/2019 22:47

Of course not. I don't know her.

JoyceJames · 20/12/2019 22:48

No

icantchoosejustone · 20/12/2019 22:48

There will be an immense outpouring of grief. I was only a couple of months old when Diana died, but it seemed the entire world was in mourning when she passed from what I've seen. I imagine it'll be the same with the Queen

SpicyRibs · 20/12/2019 22:48

It would be utterly, utterly unbearable.

Not her passing, but the stomach-churningly obsequious reporting will be vomit inducing. Nicholas Witchell will orgasm in reverence.

This.

TitsInAbsentia · 20/12/2019 22:49

Shock news...not everything depicted in The Crown is real....

Rumboogie · 20/12/2019 22:49

I will be very sad, and unsettled, as she has been a constant and figure of stability in my life. I come from an Army family so she has been particularly important.

PiggyInTheMiddle19 · 20/12/2019 22:49

Nope. Afraid not couldn't give a hoot. Im. Only sad if it's someone I'm close to, friend or relatives.
Anyone else..? Celebs, big icons etc . Nah!

I'm horrible.

I was getting to the point of starting to appreciate the Queen more and more in recent years, given how low the calibre of politicians in this country was proving to be.

Then she made her support for Prince Andrew abundantly clear and I lost all respect for her.
