Lady at soft play

Beckyboo123 · 20/12/2019 13:13

I’m sat at a local soft play centre which is very busy and the lady at the next table to me has been filing her nails for the last 15 minutes. AIBU to think that it’s a bit gross?

OP posts:

  1. Soft play centres ARE cleaned and periodically emptied. I know enough owners to assure you of that.
  2. Just because somewhere is already full of bugs doesn't mean all bets are off. Perhaps we should all start spitting everywhere or flinging shit at the walls, maybe wiping boggies on the table because, you know, kids have germs. Jesus wept.
YANBU, OP, that's minging.

Someone was doing this at a gcse prize giving when people were speaking. Incredibly rude and so fucking distracting. It sounded like a log been sawn. Times and places.

EmmiJay · 20/12/2019 14:01

I'd take nail dust over norovirus any day.

codenameduchess · 20/12/2019 14:02

What's the problem with someone putting make up on? How is that offensive?

Honeybee85 · 20/12/2019 14:06

I think it’s a bit rude, esspecially if someone next to you is eating.

My mum taught me as a general rule that putting on cosmetics (lipstick, powder etc) in public is acceptable as long as they do not cause any smell (so no deodorant spraying, or perfume, or painting nails in public).

Taking things off in public (filing nails, plucking eyebrows etc) isn’t appropriate according to her.
She thinks brushing your hair is also rude and I was told off once for doing this behind my desk by a male colleague, but I don’t think it’s that rude so I keep breaching my mum’s rule on this one Grin

Do you know they have to employ people to clean the London Underground tunnels to keep them from clogging up with the human skin particles and hairs that are deposited in them every year?

If you started to think about what is floating about in the air you breathe you would probably opt for an oxygen mask.

Lovemusic33 · 20/12/2019 14:21

YABU.....for being at softplay so close to Christmas with all those germs, nail filings are the least of your worries 🤣

Jellybeansincognito · 20/12/2019 14:23

It’s not very well mannered to do this, no.

BozoBahHumbugScroogesItUp · 20/12/2019 14:23

90% of dust is human skin particles. You eat dust daily. Just saying Xmas Grin

BaubleTheLumpOfCoal · 20/12/2019 14:25

I watched a woman change her sons shitty nappy in the middle of the actual play frame at soft play - she didn't even put the rotten nappy in the bin straight away.

Filing her nails is nothing, I'd say!

MereDintofPandiculation · 20/12/2019 14:30

I don't think it's ok to leave bits of your body lying around where other people eat. You're shedding bits of your body all the time in the form of skin cells, the only way to avoid leaving body bits where people eat is to completely avoid going to places where people eat.

Londongirl86 · 20/12/2019 15:05

Softplay is a going to be grotty. I have been to it in the summer but yuck at this time of the year. Probably full of viruses and stomach bugs and snot. A filed nail isn't going to kill you or make you ill!

bloodywhitecat · 20/12/2019 15:11

Soft play = germ soup. A bit of nail filing isn't going to do much harm really.

Aaarrgghhh · 20/12/2019 15:17

Soft plays are disgusting and gross anyway. I’m sure her nail filings are the least nasty things floating about. I wouldn’t do it myself but I also don’t go to soft plays anyway so I wouldn’t see it either.

Vulpine · 20/12/2019 15:17

Any personal grooming in public is a bit yucky.

Andylion · 20/12/2019 15:19

Yeah that’s gross.

Of course it is. Just because it's not the worst thing you encounter at a Soft Play doesn't mean it's ok to groom yourself there.

MinTheMinx · 20/12/2019 15:39

YABU by going to a soft play centre just before Christmas. Do you WANT everyone to be ill over the holidays? Sheer madness.

Mitzicoco · 20/12/2019 15:39

Gross.

npowerarebastards · 20/12/2019 15:41

I know a lot of people are funny about this but I can't get worked up about it. I would pluck my eyebrows at my desk if I could get away with it 😀

npowerarebastards · 20/12/2019 15:42

If her life is like mine it's probably the only time she can do them

HavelockVetinari · 20/12/2019 15:43

Any other cafe YWNBU but this is soft play - a germ-filled soup of contagion permeates every square inch of the place Envy

ConstanceL · 20/12/2019 15:44

Soft plays are disgusting and gross anyway. I couldn't have put it any better! We avoid them like the plague, and nail filings would be the least of my hygiene based worries!

SunshineAngel · 20/12/2019 15:44

It would never have crossed my mind that filing my nails in public wasn't okay. It honestly wouldn't. We all leave dead skin and hair wherever we go anyway, and I think you have a lot more to be worried about at a soft play than this!

VisionQuest · 20/12/2019 15:45

I was sat next to a woman on a train the other day who was biting and licking at her nails constantly. I had to move, the slurping sound was making me feel sick.

Just move away and eat your food elsewhere.

Jellybeansincognito · 20/12/2019 15:50

‘ Any personal grooming in public is a bit yucky.’

I definitely agree with this.

Especially when I see women applying foundation on the train/ in public toilets etc.
Wouldn’t want my make up brushes/ hands anywhere near my face unless they’ve been washed thoroughly beforehand.

Bluh.
