To return my winning hamper?

ADVICE NEEDED BEFORE COLLECTION TOMORROW PLEASE

So
We won the hamper from the preschool nativity
It’s huge
And the 2nd hamper I’ve won in a week 🙈
The first one (from works Xmas do) we are giving to grandparents for Xmas
This other one is ginormous, there is so much stuff, we do not have a big enough house for all this stuff 🙈, I don’t want to seem ungrateful but we just don’t need it and want to do something better with it than take it home.

Here are some options that I can see

  1. Ask them to give it to the staff to take home if they are short of any gifts for staff
  2. Ask them to hold another raffle in the new year - not sure how easy this would be - surely a sign on the door would suffice?
  3. Take it to the food bank - removing booze and donating that to the village hall raffle tomorrow night for the brass band carol concert we are going to.
  4. Take it to the food bank but ask preschool to take the booze for staff.

One massive thing to remember here though is that the staff all donated this stuff for the hamper so I don’t want to appear ungrateful by offering it back to them 🙈

I just don’t want to come across as ungrateful or rude

Please help

I’m open to other suggestions too 😊

I won a hamper of the pub and asked them to re-raffle it as we were going away, they made twice as much the second time round.

Homeless shelters or women's refuges

Another vote for the food bank … and booze to raffle.

icelolly99 · 21/12/2019 17:33

If its luxury items a food bank won't want it. A prize draw I recently entered was made up of luxury items that had been donated to a food bank but not really suitable for fb so a volunteer had bought the items from the fb and created a hamper prize.

WhoCaresWins01 · 21/12/2019 17:37

Option 3

MadamShazam · 21/12/2019 17:40

I would definitely donate the items you don't want to a food bank.

Food bank taking out alcohol for concert raffle

Sara107 · 21/12/2019 17:45

It’s not rude to give it back. You took part in the fund raiser by buying tickets, no guarantee you would win! Explain to staff that your luck was in and you had just won another, and let them raffle it again (assuming nothing perishable in there). Nobody will be offended- I have often seen raffles redrawn because the person has already won a prize and doesn’t want to hog everything, doesn’t want the particular prize, was the one who donated it etc.

Food bank and booze for the local raffle.Wine

Also it's a very lovely gesture from you, happy Christmas Xmas Smile

LouLou789 · 21/12/2019 17:55

I vote for option 3 😀

Mrscog · 21/12/2019 17:56

Definitely number 3

I won a meat hamper in our school raffle. I imagined a meat hamper like you described. I am jealous of your meat hamper. Mine was a bag of asda value sausage rolls, a couple of pies and some cheese and onion pasties. Not a fucking joint in sight.

What the fuck am I meant to do with a giant bag full of minging sausage rolls? The food bank don't want them.

missed point of thread

jillb55 · 21/12/2019 17:58

Food bank: They can use the booze for their raffles.

GiftedFish · 21/12/2019 17:59

I would go with option 3..

Accept it and donate to food bank
Why enter the raffle if you didn’t want the prize 🤔

eatyourcake · 21/12/2019 18:03

There is an app called OLIO, they tackle food waste. You can list the items on there and have people in your local area come collect what they need. It's a bit of a hassle to list everything (you could do bundles) and manage collections, but items will actually go to people who want them and will use them. Wouldn't list booze though!

NitNat78 · 21/12/2019 18:05

3 or 4. Both lovely ideas x

SusieOwl4 · 21/12/2019 18:06

Any care homes near you ? They might be grateful ?

ICouldBeVotingTactically · 21/12/2019 18:08

As a PP said upthread: Ask them to draw another ticket so someone else can win it.

Much simpler all round.

Skinnychip · 21/12/2019 18:14

We always have biscuits and chocolates given toys at work from clients, way more than we would eat. My work colleague said I shouldn't donate to a food bank as they needed basics and "a box of chocolates wouldnt constitute a meal"so I asked on the local webpage and several people involved with food banks said they absolutely would like treats, and an acquaintance who used a food bank said it was nice to be able to give her kids treats at xmas.
Otherwise would give to hospital, or care home staff who might be working on xmas day.

Skinnychip · 21/12/2019 18:15

Toys = to us!

Straycatstrut · 21/12/2019 18:17

Food bank 100%. Booze to me

FatBlobbyBob · 21/12/2019 18:22

One massive thing to remember here though is that the staff all donated this stuff for the hamper

I would say you have too much at home and let the staff decide if they re-raffle it or take it home with them.

Are you sure the manager didnt buy it all ?
