To return my winning hamper?

ADVICE NEEDED BEFORE COLLECTION TOMORROW PLEASE

So
We won the hamper from the preschool nativity
It’s huge
And the 2nd hamper I’ve won in a week 🙈
The first one (from works Xmas do) we are giving to grandparents for Xmas
This other one is ginormous, there is so much stuff, we do not have a big enough house for all this stuff 🙈, I don’t want to seem ungrateful but we just don’t need it and want to do something better with it than take it home.

Here are some options that I can see

  1. Ask them to give it to the staff to take home if they are short of any gifts for staff
  2. Ask them to hold another raffle in the new year - not sure how easy this would be - surely a sign on the door would suffice?
  3. Take it to the food bank - removing booze and donating that to the village hall raffle tomorrow night for the brass band carol concert we are going to.
  4. Take it to the food bank but ask preschool to take the booze for staff.

One massive thing to remember here though is that the staff all donated this stuff for the hamper so I don’t want to appear ungrateful by offering it back to them 🙈

I just don’t want to come across as ungrateful or rude

Please help

I’m open to other suggestions too 😊

Another food bank volunteer here. In our food bank we do take luxury items and ensure our clients have a treat when we can. We only get a tad frustrated when we get leftover Christmas items with a short date on them half way through January, but even then will still give them out.

The only thing we don't take is home made items or alcohol.

Number 3 - The Food Bank and the booze to the village hall raffle.

And while we're on - can I rub your head for luck? I never win anything! {fgrin]

DingDongSchadenfreudeOnHigh · 21/12/2019 18:33

[frgin] fail.

I would donate it to your local food bank - lucky you though for your winning streak! Get a lottery ticket this week!!

FelicisNox · 21/12/2019 18:52

I say regift it.

There must be someone you know who is having a difficult time and could do with a lovely surprise.

Failing that why not hold a raffle of your own in the new year to raise funds for another worthy cause.

Another food bank volunteer here - we take everything simply because we don't want to put people off by saying that we don't want something. We are rural and do a delivery service so we can't have a "treat box" as such.

We have an arrangement with the local community supermarket - the hamper things and Christmas treats get taken there so those on low incomes can buy them cheaply. Our view is that a jar of nice chutney is only good if you have cheese to go with it. The money made is used to buy in gaps on the shelves.

Our needs don't remain static - at the moment we have enough soup to last 5 years and enough tinned peas to feed an army, but a lack of tampax, men's toiletries and large sized nappies.

We are thinking of a way to utilise gluts from allotments - but this will increase our need for oil.

Take the booze out and give it to the food bank. It's not true that they don't want nice food, especially at this time of year. People may need basics but they also want something a bit more interesting.

manicmij · 21/12/2019 19:15

Food bank minus the alcohol donating that to other raffle. Why would the staff or anyone else find out what you did with it unless you made a song and dance about it?

Celestine70 · 21/12/2019 19:32

Number three.

numberoneson · 21/12/2019 19:36

Don't tell them you don't want it, that would be rude and hurtful. Food bank!!!

mummykauli7 · 21/12/2019 19:49

Give it to a local care home. Or to the bin men. Or lollipop person at the school. Food bank and give the booze to the volunteers there

SauvignonBlanche · 21/12/2019 20:03

I once acquired a meat hamper I didn’t want, including a large turkey, I contacted the Salvation Army and they took the lot off us.

RoseMartha · 21/12/2019 20:06

Food bank

FlamingoQueen · 21/12/2019 20:22

Do you have any elderly neighbours that would like a treat?

SpeedofaSloth · 21/12/2019 20:24

3

windycuntryside · 21/12/2019 20:25

Ffs just take it home. Stop creating drama. Oh poor other needy souls... how could I possibly take it when I don’t neeeeeeed it, such a non problem

LittleSweet · 21/12/2019 20:34

I bought selection packs for dcs to give to the food bank. I think it's a horrible feeling not to be able to give them to your dcs at Christmas. Are they really not wanted?

GiftedFish · 21/12/2019 20:34

Why not explain to the teachers that you have enough and not enough room, so as long as they are happy you are going to pay it forward to a worthy cause. If I gave it to you and you told me that, I would be happy.

like7 · 21/12/2019 20:59

Our church have just collected special Christmassy food items to donate to the local food bank to give the recipients something more than just the essentials this Christmas time. We heard the food bank were very pleased to receive it all.

ElleMac44 · 21/12/2019 22:09

Food Bank definitely!

ElleMac44 · 21/12/2019 22:13

Or what about your local A and E or Fire Station, those that are working over Xmas and new year.

Katzia · 22/12/2019 00:28

Accept the hamper. Take it home. Take out what you want. Repackage into smaller hampers and deliver to your local old people's homes. It's a no brainer.

AlexaPourMeAnEggnog · 22/12/2019 00:53

Please don’t draw attention to it with staff. They would feel offended.

Take it round the neighbours, offering goodwill and Christmas cheer! Let them choose whatever they like and tell them you’re sharing your good fortune.

Makinglemonadeoutoflemons · 22/12/2019 01:12

Wow you must be super lucky!
I’m another vote for the foodbank, I would probably keep the bottle’s to drink & for presents & donate the rest.
