To expect the woman who drove into my car to pay for repairs.

I was parked and not even in my car. I was delivering Christmas cards. She reversed into and was apologetic. Said she'd pay for the damage rather than go through insurance. Now I've got the estimate she says she can't afford it. Waiting on insurance details but not hopeful. Fuming!

If you have her reg no. I would have thought that your insurance company would be able to trace hers.

araiwa · 19/12/2019 15:38

So go through insurance and stop being dodgy

fedup21 · 19/12/2019 15:39

What are you waiting for? Just give your insurance company her registration number-you should let them know about any accidents anyway-how long ago was the accident?

Expressedways · 19/12/2019 15:42

Just go through the insurance like you should have done from the get go. If you have her contact details and reg number then just pass that one to your insurance company along with any photos you have and let them handle it.

NomNomNomNom · 19/12/2019 15:44

Like PP said, go through insurance.

NomNomNomNom · 19/12/2019 15:45

Give her registration details to your insurance company. If you don't have them text her to say you'll be reporting the incident to the police.

MrMeeseekscando · 19/12/2019 15:45

This happened to me, a kid in a corsa.
He never contacted me to sort it so I handed it to my insurer.
He had just passed his test and I ended up with his Dad harassing me to drop it because he couldn't afford the hike in premiums.
Not my problem.
I wish I'd gone straight to the insurance company first.

MoreSexPleaseImBritish · 19/12/2019 15:48

You should ALWAYS report it to your insurance even if you settle privately.

TheReflex · 19/12/2019 15:51

You dont need her insurance details, just tell your insurer, they'll do the rest

Rubychard · 19/12/2019 15:53

All you need is the reg no.

Needatranslator · 19/12/2019 15:56

Yes, just go via insurance. I had this, the woman started arguing my quote, then blocked my mobile number. Was quite surprised when I rang her on hubby’s mobile. I threatened to tell the police she’d driven off and I’d had to chase her for 3 miles up the road at 70mph!

Her Insurance paid out.

Nanna50 · 19/12/2019 16:15

As others have said just contact your insurance asap. Same happened to my DH, the other driver objected to the quote, wanted to use someone they knew to do it cheaper, my DH said no so they blocked him.

He contacted his insurance, they dealt with it and the other driver even had the cheek to unblock my DH to call him to shout that they couldn’t afford the hike in premiums.

GabsAlot · 19/12/2019 16:18

They dont have to tell u their insurance just give the reg number yours can find it and then you'll be -dont expect her to admit fault though

Saracen3169 · 19/12/2019 16:37

Ok thanks I'll ring them now.

The same happened to me, she was going to pay but couldn't afford the costs. She went through her insurance, I shared my quote with them, they agreed, and paid the repair shop directly.

Easy and quick, and avoided middle men who would have charged much more.
