to think that if you're going to announce that your washing machines might catch fire

you should make sure the sodding website and phone numbers published to find out details are up to the additional demand?

Some Hotpoint and Indesit washers manufactured between 2014 and 2018 may catch fire and are subject to a safety recall.

That's washing machines, not driers again - which is what I assumed when I first heard the story.

YANBU. I ditched hotpoint over how they handled the tumble drier recall. 18 months to get the damn thing fixed and then it made a horrific noise after. I’ll never buy hotpoint ever again, we had 3 appliances by them at the time all had issues.
