To ask you to join the Labour Party?

We really need a strong opposition. Personally, I really really don't a Corbyn clone or McDonnell lite. I would love there to be a political party I want to vote for. Instead of a 'least worst option'.

I will be joining and reading up on possible candidates. Then hoping my vote might count for something. Anyone else?

Possibly- Tory win here but i might be interested in getting involved and see what happens and what is said as i oppose self id and the eradication of female spaces, services and sports

BrandoraPaithwaite · 16/12/2019 19:52

YANBU
Although I can't join because I'm already a member 🌹

Hont1986 · 16/12/2019 19:52

Genuine question - why do you want to change the Labour party to being a centrist party when you could back the Lib Dems?

What is the appeal of joining a left wing party if you don't support left wing policies?

Dogmatix34 · 16/12/2019 19:54

If I join now, will I definitely get a vote for the leadership?

Election2019 · 16/12/2019 19:54

I’m also already a member but couldn’t vote for them at the last election. Too many people didn’t have confident in Corbyn. A leader needs to have a majority believing in him or her.

1Morewineplease · 16/12/2019 19:55

I don’t think that you’ll be able to vote for a new leader if you join now. Double check.

TheClausSeason · 16/12/2019 19:56

If I join now, will I definitely get a vote for the leadership?

Good question.

MurrayTheMonk · 16/12/2019 19:57

I joined don Friday for this very reason. I hope in time to get a vote.

Saddler · 16/12/2019 19:57

No thanks

“Genuine question - why do you want to change the Labour party to being a centrist party when you could back the Lib Dems?

That.

Fishcakey · 16/12/2019 19:58

Already a paid up, card carrying Tory so Yep you are being unreasonable lol.

I am watching what happens with the leadership with great interest. Any chance David Miliband could be persuaded back?

everythingcrossed · 16/12/2019 19:58

The rules, it is being reported on Twitter, allow members to vote if they join within two weeks of the election timetable being agreed so there is still time Smile.

TheClausSeason · 16/12/2019 19:59

Genuine question - why do you want to change the Labour party to being a centrist party when you could back the Lib Dems?

The miniscule chance of them winning any sizeable majority unless we overturn FPTP? The fact that they've said they don't want the vote of anyone who questions the trans ideology in any way, shape or form? What they did (or failed to do) the last time they were in government?

Butchyrestingface · 16/12/2019 20:00

I believe you can’t be a member of two parties at once and this is NOT the time to disaffect from the SNP. Grin 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Butchyrestingface · 16/12/2019 20:01

The fact that they've said they don't want the vote of anyone who questions the trans ideology in any way, shape or form?

Did they really? GrinGrinGrin

ShinyMe · 16/12/2019 20:02

Nope, no thanks. I was an active member for a long time, but didn't renew it after perhaps the early 2000s. I'll still vote Labour sometimes, mainly to keep out Tories, but I won't join a political party again.

Charlottejbt · 16/12/2019 20:03

YABU I'm afraid. I'll be cancelling my membership if I can figure out how. There are better things to be doing with one's time than languishing in the political wilderness for half a decade at least. What do you hope to achieve by participating in party politics? The MSM won't let a left of centre government win, and the country will be in ruins for generations after Brexit anyway.

Username198 · 16/12/2019 20:03

Rebecca Long Bailey for me

tilder · 16/12/2019 20:04

As far as I understand it, and unless they change the rules, I should be able to vote.

guardian article

If this is not correct, I would be interested too.

Hont1986 I am left leaning (voted labour pre Corbyn), but Labour is currently so far left it's horizontal. We need a strong opposition and only labour has the numbers to do it.

Plus I would love to vote Labour again.

I am already a member, I am also wondering why you would be interested to join a left wing party if you don’t support left wing policies?
Also why if you are a fully fledged member of the Conservative party you would want David Miliband as the leader of the Labour Party?? Wonder why? Hmm

TheClausSeason · 16/12/2019 20:05

@Butchyrestingface

According to the feminist boards anyway, I don't usually go in for politics so I don't know what was actually said. Should've said, 'The perception that...' rather than 'The fact that..' but was rushing to post before being called away by real life so didn't edit.

tilder · 16/12/2019 20:06

They did Butchyrestingface. Bonkers.

:) I wonder if my Dad knew this when he told me to vote LD for him (proxy vote)? He is massively creeped out by men in dresses. Personally I have trouble taking the whole trans thing seriously, given the other political issues currently at stake.

Longdistance · 16/12/2019 20:11

YABU

Though dh who joined the Conservatives says it was 3 months before he could vote on anything.
