AIBU to ask what your silliest complaints from neighbours are

Brockaslass · 15/12/2019 18:47

We have had a load of complaints from one neighbour, her issue was originally boundary issues with our social housing landlord but then she started with us. But here is a few of the silliest.

  1. That our rabbit is making her dog bark 24 hours a day. Even though he comes inside part of the day. Supposingly he stamps and makes her jack russel bark. Who is left outsdie all day.
  2. That despite having a 3 bed property with room to expand and only 1 child, we had baby clothes on our washing line indicating I was pregnant and she rang the landlord to demand they move us if we are having a baby. "They were actually my DS' dolls clothes". Our housing officer supposingly offended her by telling her we could have 3 or 4 more in that property before we run short of room and didn't clarify that I wasn't pregnant.
  3. That we watered her garden one hot summer while she was in hospital
  4. That my then 2 year old had walked on the snow on her driveway as we walked him around the cul de sac stamping in fresh snow. (He was about a cm over the boundary, which couldnt be seen because of the snow)
  5. That when we are away we allow workmen who work for landlord to park their van on our drive depot is too far away and workmen lives down road with no parking suitable.
  6. That her cat likes to sit under the shelter our sons play house creates and wont come in when it rains if he is comfortable, she thinks we should go out and chase him.
  7. That the mushrooms growing in her wooden bark border, must be coming off our concrete patch adjoining her garden. Despite the obvious lack of growing medium.
  8. That in a meeting we has with housing officer about her complaints, we used sign language because my husband is deaf, she claimed we could be insulting her, despite our housing officer explaining that wasnt the case as he also signs, and us speaking at same time for her benefit. She then decided housing officer was in on it all too.
  9. That her 32 year old son is always singing kids songs all day and annoys her because his bedroom is next to my 6 year olds who plays them on his xbox and they get stuck in his head. (Not sure why she can't just tell him to shut up)
10. Funniest of them all is todays, she has rang our emergency repairs line even though hers is private to complain that at dinner time we were cooking meat and she could smell it, and as she is a vegetarian (which I didn't know till now) we must be doing it delibrate. She then complained that the call handler wasn't taking her seriously when she was told that the repairs line is only open on a Sunday for valid emergencies. An inspector rang us shortley after to let us know another complaint had been made, and struggled to tell us for laughing about it.

So come on what's your funniest and silliest or prettiest complaints from neighbours or anyone in fact.

Landlord sent an official complaint letter than we had "numerous carrier bags" in the hall and it was a fire hazard.

There were 2 normal size carrier bags in the hall, for people to drop off food items donated for the local food bank. We organised it together for a Christmas good deed...

ThighThighOfthigh · 16/12/2019 00:21

My ndn hates my beautiful roses and complained every summer until i dug them up and moved them to another part of the garden.

Then i discovered she had complained to 5 other neighbours about their plants/ trees blocking light. Everyone else ignored her, i should have too.

MrsFoxPlus4Again · 16/12/2019 00:27

That I have a smelly bin

lovelilies · 16/12/2019 00:38

My NDN is totally batshit. Everyone calls her Nutty Nora, she's lovely to your face but then shouts and swears about me when she thinks I can't hear.

Apparently I throw stones at her cats (never have, never would, I love cats!)
She cello taped a stray nerf dart and a conker to her door as a 'warning' to 5yo DS.
The thinks my Ex is in the Mafia because he has dark skin and a nice car.
I could go on.

Alderaan · 16/12/2019 00:50

I lived on an estate where one of the nearby streets had a similar name, and as a result my post was occasionally delivered to the ero g street. The woman living at the other address liked to write long ranty letters to me whenever a mistake was made, because obviously it was all my fault.

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/12/2019 00:52

Thetruthaboutlove - did we grow up on the same street ?
Something incredibly similar happened when I was a child, but it was a very long time ago (or are you my DB ?)

justcly · 16/12/2019 00:53

That during high winds, a piece of fencing (not mine, I have hedges) "nearly hit his car". Apparently I should have controlled this. My kids are mighty impressed that I can control the elements.

Dumped a load of his crap in our skip when we were having the garden refurbished and then claimed that he had "a legal right" to do it.

Called the police and claimed that I was speeding and doing wheelies in the close. The offending vehicle is a mobility scooter, top speed 6mph (I have MS). The police laughed their socks off.

Complains on a regular basis that my cat stares at his dog and "makes him nervous". Last time I told him that I had grounded the cat and withdrawn his Dreamies.

This guy is about 30.

Theaccidentalthief · 16/12/2019 00:59

That we wouldn't allow open access through our garden onto canal path behind. For context canal path could be reached from the street via a two second walk around the corner but neighbour wanted to use our garden as a thoroughfare. She even went as far as to print off a letter for us from the 'whole street' saying we were being unreasonable for locking our gate. No one else knew anything about it 🙄

24hourshomeedderandcarer · 16/12/2019 01:00

i had a great bat shit neighbor experience its long though

we had a bat shit neighbor that was a few sandwiches short of a picnic

been here years and a couple moved in with her mother, couple was late 20s her middle 50s

all friendly but i noticed she was obviously "not all there"not disabled just not all there

months later i had a phone call off the councils noise department laughing their heads off saying we dont so this we just ignore them but im giving you the heads up as she has previous for this in another town (the one you ring for reporting council housing tenants if you or they are one)

now we are all private, either private renters or owners and are a small street on top of a mountain surrounded by other mountains and the next street and village is a 5 minute walk down the steep hill and the whole valley i would say a few hundred of people at best so no council tenants or estates here

the mother reported us that we are not paying any council tax and they should be aware about it and while im on the line i want to report nose disturbances.

we dont pay CT as we are on benefits so its covered, this was discussed in the garden as the daughter said did i get this years invoice(dont know if thats the term) and i said yes and she said haven't it gone up per month? so i replied with i dont know i havent paid it for years as the kids are disabled me and phill(not partners name) are on income support and carers allowance as we are carers to the boys

noises were

1 my then 7 y old is farting so loud its disturbing her and making her sick,(now i know she sleeps down stairs)and the noise is vibrating through the walls and knocking photos off the wall

2 hes laughing to late at night and can they tell me to put him in bed by 5pm

3 my heating is to hot and its seeping in through the walls and making the air quality to thick to breath

4 hes banging the bedroom walls at night(he sleeps with me so its my room too) and shouting vulgar sexual things he wants to do to her through a hole in the wall, there is no hole, its thick walls and well build houses also the wardrobe is on that wall, hes was also non verbal at the time and only just 7(mentally 3-4 years behind) and like i said she slept downstairs

i went round told the daughter im not having this. im taking this further, she burst in to tears and said oh no its happening again and it turns out she moved miles away(i knew she didnt have our accent)as mother was harassing the neighbors and the council department and police by making up shit so neighbors threatened to beat them all up so she moved sharply

i told her i under stand disabilities but this is not disabilities this is bat shit crazy stuff i suggest you give her 24 care as she not suitable to be left alone

weeks later i saw nothing of them but didnt thing anything of it as i though she was keeping a low profile but that afternoon i had a knock off the local primary school from a eo and head teacher to say they are officially looking in to a child missing in education and i must let them in to search, they were told frankly to fuck right off as 1 we home educate and never used your school so you can do one and 2 my kids are disabled if you think im letting in a stranger in their safe space you got anothing coming
they tried to tell me that home education was illegal and ive been breaking the law as a child must be in a schools setting so i put them straight legally

they said they had a anonymous tip off and someone rang the school to report my kids for not attending(one was comprehensive age any way)and as we are not on their books they were so alarmed they had a right to come out and look

mother came out as i was arguing with them and said oh you come then yeah they dont go to school at all so i though i should let you know

i went that metal at her and the school that someone called the police and after me explaining and them finding out who she is it turns out mother has restraining orders and public nuisance orders in place so they gave her a official warning and took her away

school got a mouth full off the police for overstepping the mark and harassing people that has and never had anything to do with them and advised me to take it further as this was very unprofessional and classed as illegal

i did that a weeks later i was old thst school got a officially warning for harassment off the police and a fine off the education department and i got a officila letter off the head personally appoligizing a voucher for a online flower shop and a gift card from argos for educational toys for the kids to further their education

when daughter came home she knocked and apologized but i said im not being harassed in my own home you have to understand your mother is batshit and im not having it

months later i heard a commotion with another neighbor, the mother knocked her door to have a go that her boy wasnt in school or childcare and she had reported her,the boy was roughly 18 months and she was a single sahm so had no need for any care

as neighbor know she had orders in place she reported her and she had a 2nd warning for harassment

i was on holiday months later and it was summer and scghool sumer holidays and i was face timed by mother of the toddler gobmacked saying ive got to tell yuo you will never beleive ehat s happened

the police is taking the mother away in a car ,she going mental and is having to be restraie dand forced in

the other end neighbor (so 2 door down from me)rang the police as she found the mother using a vibrator naked while she was watching porn of full blast in the garden so she rang the police as her children(4 under 7) were in their garden using the pool and came in and said "mother"is is making moaning noises to a loud shouting video(innocent kids hey) to she called over the fence got no response but cottoned on to what she was doing, kept the kids in so ran upstairs and videoed it to give to the police
police burst in the garden and caught her in the act so she was arrested

weeks later i heard or saw nothing but we all thought the daughter was dying from embarrassment so keep a low profile

i had a knock at the door from the landlord(she introduced her self)turns out the daughter had done a flit that night left everything there and do i know her new adress as shes getting no answer

we were under the impression that daughter was the home owner as there was a for sale sign up before they moved in and she told us all she bought it on the cheep to do up

went to get 2 doors down and the toddlers mother as i explained i cant have strangers in so we went to toddlers mothers house and had a talk there

we told LL everything thats happened and she was so apologetic and crying in the end and made a promise she would get decent people in but up to this point she knew nothing as they always paid the rent and had no complaints and inspected regularly and she thought there was only the young couple living there

house was empty for months as legaly LL has to wait a period of time before she can discard anything left behind

she felt so sorry for us all she gave us first pickings for free before she got a house cleaning company in,we all practually cleaned the house but did give the ll money

months later 3 little old ladies moved in all sisters and i told them all thats gone on and that boys are disabled and we home ed and they were all home educated(theres 12 of them) as thats what they did back then

had no problems off them

told you it was long and before anyone accuses me of making it up of being to far fetched its all100% true

Scotmummy1216 · 16/12/2019 01:11

I got told my indoor house cats were shitting in my neighbours garden Hmm think he felt a bit stupid when i told him.

Scotmummy1216 · 16/12/2019 01:14

Oh and also my previous next door neighbour came screamed and swore at my Dad for using a drill to put some blinds up at 7 at night (only time he could as was working) when we had just moved into our house. Some people have zero tolerance levels. She did have young children but world doesnt resolve around just you and your family.

CSIblonde · 16/12/2019 03:47

After my Dad passed, My DM moved to a new road & a few weeks in, the Bank Manager 3 doors down knocked & said she should have hanging baskets like everyone else as it "was letting everyone down & looked awful without them" . I informed him that she'd just been widowed & slammed the door in his face. We'd already put potted roses from our last house etc out front & there were huge barrel tubs of evergreens still there that previous owners had obv decided were too huge to take too. We never did do hanging baskets at the front, tho we had them in the back, in silent protest at his arseyness.

bluebells1 · 16/12/2019 06:50

Just had another complaint from one of the neighbours. It seems that the sun hits our upstairs window and the 'glare' hurts their eyes when they are in their living room. DH apparently made some sympathetic noises and told my neighbour that he will pray for the sun to be less bright. Grin

LizzieBananas · 16/12/2019 07:00

We were giggling.

He came round and told us to stop as “his lad” had to be up for work. His lad was older than us!

NearlyOutedMyself · 16/12/2019 07:07

An old NDN used to complain about us paying their milk bill. Back in the day, a couple of rival dairies delivered to our street and we had different companies delivering. They were convinced that we were paying their milk bill for some reason and couldn't be dissuaded, they wouldn't even believe their milkman. It transpired that they had developed alzheimers, not so funny after all.

sueelleker · 16/12/2019 07:30

Our last cat weighed 3.5kg, and when she jumped off the bed you'd swear she was wearing concrete boots.

SquishyLint · 16/12/2019 07:56

Neighbour behind us complained that we let our dog out for a wee in our garden at 8:30 in the evening (we were all quiet). That we didn’t park in our allocated parking spot because it wasn’t actually near our house, we parked in a visitor spot next to our house WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT SHE DID. That my partner owned a work van, so she decided to scratch it and draw red marker all over it with the words “THIS IS NOT A CARAVAN SITE”. We couldn’t prove it was her, but it very clearly was as she’d posted a note through our door with the same words. There’s so much more, but I’d be here all day.

Insane woman.

transformandriseup · 16/12/2019 08:11

On the first night my downstairs neighbours moved in they complained about the noise from us walking around the flat, we were just walking not stamping but I think they thought it was going to be completely soundproof. That wasn't silly but the man then told us that they had bought their flat and that council house tenants who obviously didn't work needed to be more considerate of those that did. It was hilarious as DP and I had bought our flat and both worked full time. The neighbours came to realise the floors weren't soundproof and that on occasion you could hear people walking around.

SquishyLint · 16/12/2019 08:12

Oh, and that she suspected my partner was smoking weed (He wasn’t) and her child was playing near our house, after banging aggressively on our door and accusing him he stepped out of the house and pointed out that it smelled like the next door neighbours were cooking a curry. 🙄

TheReluctantCountess · 16/12/2019 10:57

@24hourshomeedderandcarer that’s unbelievable! I’m glad she’s gone now.

SweetestThing · 16/12/2019 10:59

That our barbecue smelled nicer than hers. We used to call her Mad Rita. I think it's clear why.

adviceneededon · 16/12/2019 11:13

I have an awful neighbour. I'd be here too long writing it all down so OP you have my sympathy.

I work in an open plan office so trying to concentrate sometimes is hard. So today I'm working from home. Neighbour knows I'm home as saw me come back from dropping the kids at school. She now has Christmas music blasting so loud that my wall is booming. So inconsiderate.

LittleLongDog · 16/12/2019 11:27

Neighbour downstairs asked us to put in carpet because apparently they can hear it when our 3kg dog walks around upstairs. His claws are making noise

@Jeleste I don’t think that’s unreasonable of them. I have a mini dachshund and he certainly makes trotting noises on wooden and tiled floors.

sqirrelfriends · 16/12/2019 11:32

When I was a very shy teenager I was instructed by my neighbour not to flush the loo and or watch tv (I never watched it loud) while she was sleeping. This was during the day as she stayed up until early morning fighting with her partner and playing loud music.

She also tried this with the nice neighbour on the other side who had a young child. Nice neighbour pointed out he couldn't sleep at night and his schoolwork was suffering as a result. Unreasonable neighbour promptly told her to fuck off and that she could do what she wanted in her own home.

Charming.

Hepsibar · 16/12/2019 11:33

Poor you, is she mentally ill, or does she have some condition herself like autism or dementia ... or is she very lonely and her way of making contact. Definitely need to report nuisance issues.

However, have no faith in anything being done a dear relation of mine lives next to someone who planted trees and put fence in relation's garden ... 8 years on and 1000's spent, council involved, everyone agreed she's over the boundary, nothing can be done. Court the only issue at great cost.
