AIBU to think that it's antisocial to paint your nails on the train?

Currently on a long distance train journey, fairly empty coach. Across from the aisle there's this woman who is painting her nails. I loathe the smell. Now, I realise this is a minor annoyance, and that I can move to another empty seat, but just for the sake of passing the remaining 3 hours on my journey: AIBU to think that personal grooming (nail painting, applying full face of makeup, extensive hair brushing etc.) is best reserved for behind closed doors?

Or just put your make up on at home like most people

Celledora · 14/12/2019 17:15

When I had severe morning sickness but could just about get through the daily journey to work, someone painted her nails on the morning commute. I threw up.

FruitcakeOfHate · 14/12/2019 17:15

Could be worse, she could have been eating a Leon chicken satay grin

Grin.

Don't see a problem with makeup, they may be en route somewhere. It doesn't smell. So what?

FruitcakeOfHate · 14/12/2019 17:17

are you allowed to shave your legs, wax your bikini line?

Why not? Not seen it done but as long as it's not breaking nudity or obscenity laws.

There was one women fined a few years ago for shaving her jungle whilst driving. Bit of a problem there.

Nail polish smell gives me a headache.

Also, it doesn’t dry quickly so she is likely to smear it all over some unfortunate soul.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 14/12/2019 17:22

Hair brushing is minging as well, no one wants your sander and hair all over them.

Icecreambaby · 14/12/2019 17:23

YANBU

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 14/12/2019 17:23

Dander, not sander.

gnushoes · 14/12/2019 17:26

Dander?

MashedSpud · 14/12/2019 17:29

Anything smelly is inconsiderate.

Normal makeup I feel is fine.

SweetAsSpice · 14/12/2019 17:31

It’s a dick move for sure, but not sure I would quite label it as anti social.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 14/12/2019 17:32

Yes.

BlueEyedFloozy · 14/12/2019 17:32

My hair sheds every time I move my head - it's a standing joke on our house that if there isn't atleast one of my hairs on your plate I probably phoned a takeaway...

People who sit near me on public transport are very likely to get my hair on them with our without me brushing it. Not much I can do about it tbh!

Perfume, soap, tomato soup and coffee smells all give me the boak. Doesn't mean that people around me shouldn't have them. It's a personal thing.

Confusedbeetle · 14/12/2019 17:34

Its very bad manners, as is any personal grooming

RamblingFar · 14/12/2019 17:34

Quickly fixing one nail on the way to something would be my limit. I wouldn't do them all as it stinks.

Somanysocks · 14/12/2019 17:47

Wouldn't bother me, I find it fascinating that anyone can paint nails and apply make up in a moving vehicle.

I like to watch them (is that weird) to see the before and after. 😁

riotlady · 14/12/2019 17:51

Nail varnish yes, as it smells, but don’t see the problem with doing makeup. I used to do it on the bus to town after work sometimes, don’t see how it affects anyone.

YouveDoneItToYourself · 14/12/2019 18:02

Doesn't bother me but the smell triggers migraines for my husband so he would mind.

Vulpine · 14/12/2019 18:07

Rachelfromfriends - i may spout nonsense but i sure don't 'sprout' it! Or is that a christmas slip up Wink

Fraggling · 14/12/2019 18:10

Oh didn't read whole post.

I have zero issues with people putting makeup on, it doesn't smell.

Nail varnish stinks

TheBlueStocking · 14/12/2019 18:11

I've had to do it myself. Don't necessarily get the time otherwise.

OwlBeThere · 14/12/2019 18:14

The smell of coffee makes me heave. Anything lavender scented gives me an instant migraine. As do lots of perfumes, So should no one use those things because I can’t tolerate them!l? No. Same with this I feel

KilledByHerOwnCardigan · 15/12/2019 00:13

YANBU. Grooming belongs in private--and while I can overlook putting on some makeup, a lot of people can't take the smell of nail varnish! Rude.
