I mean... I do care about the election. But not today. Because today, after 3 and a half long, painful months of living with my PILs- the last 6 weeks with a new baby- DH and I have completed and are moving into our new home.

WOOHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Anyone vaguely familiar with my previous threads will know how indescribably happy this makes me! There have been times over the last few months where I have really had to work to keep my mental health under control, it’s honestly been one of the hardest times in my life, and now it’s over. We have our own home. It’s not big, it’s not fancy, but it’s ours, and finally DH, DS and I will be able to be together, just the 3 of us. An added bonus is that we are no longer living in IDS’s constituency...

I’ve no doubt I’ll be back to despairing over the state of the world and how our country is going to hell in a handbasket soon enough, but right now I couldn’t be happier. Life is good.

Anyone else got a reason to be cheerful today?

My school is now closed for three week Christmas Holidays !!!!!

darkriver19886 · 13/12/2019 16:01

After a decade of writer's block, I have managed to write about five thousand words in the last ten days.

tillytrotter1 · 13/12/2019 16:04

surviving the PILs.
And the in-laws may be cracking open the Bolly too!

Deelish75 · 13/12/2019 16:07

Enjoy your new home! It’s been the best day ever for DD(4) she got to wear her Christmas jumper to school and they had Christmas dinner in school, she hardly ate any of it which doesn’t surprise me (that’s the reason she normally has a packed lunch) but she was so pleased today as it meant she could sit with her best friend.

SeaViewBliss · 13/12/2019 16:07

I've got a small handful!

DD has just arrived home from Uni for 3 weeks! (Ok, she only lives 40 minutes away and comes home once a week for work but still)

My GNiece (5) is coming tomorrow and we are going Ice Skating and for hot chocolate.

I have parma violet gin for putting up the tree tomorrow and I don't have to cook from now until Monday due to various social gatherings.

FlatheadScrewdriver · 13/12/2019 16:08

Just got the school report after DD's first term at new school. Unrecognisable from the old school's report which in July was so negative about my lovely gentle, shy girl who was suffering under a bully - today's has "wonderful addition to the class" "confident and enthusiastic" and all sorts of other words that basically made me cry with gratitude for the new teacher. I am SO GLAD we moved her.

XXXXXX42 · 13/12/2019 16:11

I have ME (chronic fatigue) and it is playing up at the moment. I am struggling to get out of bed at all and feel utterly wretched. I am so pleased for my lovely new fireplace as the coal is keeping me warm and cosy in my misery.

looondonn · 13/12/2019 16:13

Lots of lovely news on here
Thank you OP for starting this xx

gemdrop84 · 13/12/2019 16:14

I'm having a break from writing my dissertation for two days. Tonight and tomorrow I'll be spending time with dc and watching films with dh in the evening rather than have my nose in books/laptop stressing out. I'm looking forward to it!

girlwithadragontattoo · 13/12/2019 16:14

I'm cheerful today, this is my last full week at work, this time next week i'll be having my hair done and then on the plane to the UK. I haven't been 'home' for 3 years now. It's been 7 months since I've seen my mum, 1.4 years since i saw my middle brother, 1 year since i saw my baby brother and I haven't seen my dad the whole time.
I cannot wait!!! I've never been so excited to do the washing and ironing lol

Chocolatecake12 · 13/12/2019 16:17

Im celebrating my sons 13th birthday! He’s the child I never thought I’d have so I’m extra thankful.

christmasbow · 13/12/2019 16:19

My dd 6 is off school now for holidays and we are just having a fabulous day doing not much. Started the day with a Christmas film and then tea with the dolls.
Might not feel so great about this on repeat in a months time mind Grin
Congrats on the house OP. I do care about the election but I haven't even tuned into the news to see the ins and outs. What will be will be.

borntobequiet · 13/12/2019 16:25

Well done you! Have a lovely Christmas.
I’ve lost a bit of weight (well done me) and bought a new pair of jeans in TKMaxx. Not only are they a good brand and a perfect fit, but they were mis-labelled as two sizes smaller (prob why they were reduced), giving me an extra frisson of satisfaction.
Trying to forget the election and hoping for the best...

3ismylot · 13/12/2019 16:27

I am on cloud 9 because after a year of debating whether or not to track my biological Dad (who through no fault of his own didn't know I existed and I am not far off 40) I bit the bullet on Tuesday and sent him a letter, he actually text me last and we have been chatting all day today and although it's early days he sounds lovely and has taken this massive bombshell in his stride bless him and wants to get to know me!

girlwithadragontattoo · 13/12/2019 17:13

3ismylot

simonisnotme · 13/12/2019 17:16

littlealexhorne · 13/12/2019 17:24

I got a 1st in my exam - despite not feeling like it had gone well! Feeling very proud of myself now Grin

Spudlet · 13/12/2019 17:24

I finished my son’s Go Jetters costume for a superhero party next week and he actually tried it on and liked it.

He’s been doing his level best today to get himself listed on eBay (with an extremely low opening bid at that) but then we were watching Up, and during the sad bit at the start DS came out with ‘He’s sad. Needs a kiss better!’ They think DS might have autism and he has a speech delay, so for him to not only comment but also to empathise is pretty nice.

Still haven’t totally ruled out eBay, but I might put a reserve on the listing. Grin

DefConOne · 13/12/2019 17:26

My DD in year 7 got Headteacher’s award. What makes this significant is she was permanently excluded in year 5 and spent a year at a special school for behaviour problems. She is doing so well after 7 years of shit in primary. It’s a high achieving secondary and they say she has a lot of academic potential.

Proud mummy moment after 7 years of the playground walk of shame.

blancheduboiss · 13/12/2019 17:27

I finally submitted an arduous university assignment this morning that i’d spent every waking minute on this weekGrin

honeylulu · 13/12/2019 17:31

My little girl has been poorly with a horrible cold and ear infection. Today is the first day she seems completely well, singing about Christmas and being so sweet and excited! We're about to make the Christmas pudding together as I missed stir up Sunday!

squashyhat · 13/12/2019 17:31

After a family funeral earlier in the week, and some devastating news from another longstanding family friend, my lovely mate who has just completed treatment for breast cancer found out today she has been given voluntary redundancy from her job. She is over the moon and richly deserves it. I am so happy for her Smile

AlrightyyThen · 13/12/2019 17:43

Congratulations everyone Flowers

Today my 3 year old Autistic DS ate a ham sandwich for the first time ever! (This is massive for us coz he has major food avoidances and will generally only eat yogurt/weetabix)

AlrightyyThen · 13/12/2019 17:44
