Is MN really a Tory echo chamber?

I’ve been following the copious political threads over the past month or so. Yesterday and today there’s a lot of pro Tory sentiment... is everyone here really rich enough to benefit from voting for them?

(Not goady - generally curious)

OP posts:

Ridiculous. MN is very very pro Labour. Has been for the 11 years I.ve been on here.

honeyytoast · 12/12/2019 22:18

To me it’s appearing pretty much equal. For each anti one party thread, another one in the opposite direction pops up

BMW6 · 12/12/2019 22:20

Oh and I voted Conservative THIS time, because I think they are better at managing a sound Economy with which to help those in need.

Our joint income is less than 20k pa.

(In a few minutes someone is going to post that we are "turkeys voting for Christmas") Hmm

JellyfishAndShells · 12/12/2019 22:20

? No, very Labour all the time, surely .

Shoppingwithmother · 12/12/2019 22:22

It’s massively Labour biased YABVVU

midnightmisssuki · 12/12/2019 22:23

I have NEVER known a site more left wing than mumsnet.

user1493494961 · 12/12/2019 22:25

It seems to me to be very left-wing.

Faffandahalf · 12/12/2019 22:26

Actually the site might be left wing but I think the threads have plenty, plenty of Tories on them.
I’m finding this time round a lot more conservative posters and threads

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 12/12/2019 22:27

The past few days are the first time I've seen pro Tory threads, until then it's all been pro labour and rather anti Lib Dem.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/12/2019 22:30

It's very left leaning, pro Labour.

You only have to look at the difference in responses to the exit polls news to see that. Some of the Labour voting posters are not holding back. They're very much a majority voice here.

I usually wander off to other places to remind myself that other sites have very different political biases, especially around this GE, as I was so conflicted I didn't don't know how I would vote until the pencil was in my hand.

SilverySurfer · 12/12/2019 22:31

You've got to be kidding - there are many many Tory bashing threads and it's well known that MN is left wing.

Oohaye · 12/12/2019 22:33

Are you having a laugh??? It’s packed full of Labour. You say you’re a Tory and you get venom. It’s disgraceful.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 12/12/2019 22:33

I have been hanging around mn for more than one election and sit has always been very left wing. Mostly middle class left wingers if you believe everything people say on here.

midnightmisssuki · 12/12/2019 22:35

If you are a Tory, generally you don’t come out and say much on MN - the vitriol you get is second to none. That’s why you see so many anti-Tory threads, the Conservatives don’t really start too many championing the party - the abuse is a bit much.

PullingMySocksUp · 12/12/2019 22:36

Have you not seen the exit polls? It looks like the UK in general is pro Tory. Sad

Jenpop234 · 12/12/2019 22:39

Posts have seemed pretty balanced to me. I'm by no means rich. I voted Tory because when Labour were in after the economy collapsed my husband and I were unable to get on the housing ladder. The Tories bought in help to buy and we bought our house. They also introduced free childcare for 3-year olds which has helped us massively. I work as a teacher and while I don't agree with all the changes they've made, the higher educational standards have seen more children learning basic skills in Primary. My sister spent years on the dole before Tories came in because she wasn't made to get a job (nowt wrong with her, just lazy). Since the Tories have been in she's had to get a job and is now much happier and even voted conservative herself today. I also believe that the referendum vote should be honoured.
The Tories have been in power for the majority of the last 40 years. The NHS is no more privatised now than it was under Labour and if they wanted to sell it off they would have done so by now.
Now I've explained my reasons, I don't expect you to agree. And you don't have to. It's ok to have different opinions. However I fully expect to be called a cunt by the ever so compassionate Labour supporters on here. Mumsnet is disproportionately left wing.

Marleyisme · 12/12/2019 22:39

I have been on here for several elections.

Leading up to it the 'you just be a selfish twat if you bite conservative' and 'labours the future and anyone who disagrees are thick cunts', increase massively.

Post election we will get an influx of 'people in this country are so awful', 'how could people do this to us', 'I am beside myself (essentially a competition labour who is more deveatated) for few days when labour lose.

Mn is definitely labour-centric

I wish labour would sort themseleves out.

tabulahrasa · 12/12/2019 22:40

“If you are a Tory, generally you don’t come out and say much on MN”

Really?

All those threads about people being on 80k+ and not wanting to pay extra tax must have been somewhere else then...

libdumps · 12/12/2019 22:41

Lol. Mumsnet is about as woke and lefty as it gets!

AlwaysCheddar · 12/12/2019 22:41

MN is very labour! But it’s just MN.

Siameasy · 12/12/2019 22:42

No way! It’s left and remain on here
The proponents of “kinder gentler politics” are now calling people “cunts, murderers...” 🤔showing true colours

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 12/12/2019 22:43

It’s very much Labour

As it is very much remain

Regardless of your political beliefs there are many on here who are so out of touch with reality and live in their own political bubble

balletpanda · 12/12/2019 22:44

Yes sorry but YABU, this site is insanely left wing. And I work in the NHS in a labour constituency so it's not as though I live in a bubble or anything ...

DdraigGoch · 12/12/2019 22:47

MN is left wing overall though we seem to go through days where there are loads of pro-Labour threads and other days where there are loads of pro-Conservative ones.

Fantababy · 12/12/2019 22:47

The Tory voters are popping out of the woodwork tonight. But as usual, instead of articulating why they chose to vote for the party who will continue to shaft the most vulnerable members of society, they add a 'great!' or 'I've the champagne on ice' type comment than fuck off again. Hopefully to count their money, because they're as fucked as the rest of us if they don't have any.
