Is MN really a Tory echo chamber?

I’ve been following the copious political threads over the past month or so. Yesterday and today there’s a lot of pro Tory sentiment... is everyone here really rich enough to benefit from voting for them?

(Not goady - generally curious)

I always thought it was a champagne socialist site

AuntSpiker · 12/12/2019 22:48

Mumsnet had been very left wing as long as I've been here, which is years.

GlamGiraffe · 12/12/2019 22:49

MN is very labour leaning. I'm always surprised.

shartsi · 12/12/2019 22:50

Jenpop234 well said. Those are my reasons too.

Amibeingnaive · 12/12/2019 22:50

I think the reason so many are surprised by the predicted result is, in part, due to the fact that MN is the exact opposite!

Tablepicture · 12/12/2019 22:50

No, not at all. If anything I'd say it was a Labour echo chamber! It certainly doesn't reflect the predicted result.

Singlenotsingle · 12/12/2019 22:55

Tories are quiet because they daren't put their heads up over the parapet. They'd get their heads shot off by so many vitriolic labour supporters! That doesn't mean there aren't any Tories.

NameChangeNugget · 12/12/2019 23:23

I disagree, Mumsnet is like Channel 4 I think

Shinyletsbebadguys · 12/12/2019 23:34

I think there has been an increase in Tory admittance on MN for this election because quite a few people have been so alienated by Corbyn they have defected.

Oh and for the pp who claims we dont justify ourselves I voted Tory because Corbyn's proposed NMW increase would kill adult care services which would put massive pressure on the local authority reablement teams that his suggested increased funding wouldn't touch.

I also did not believe that labour put forward a coherent funding plan for the proposed increases in public spending or a justification how we would continue to reduce our world debt.

Finally whilst I agree Johnson is unpleasant he manage to negotiate one of the most difficult issues when he got 14 countries to move against Russia and classify novichek as a biological weapon when he was foreign secretary. So frankly I dont have to like him but I do know I want someone with brains and negotiating ability to manage Brexit (whilst I voted remain I respect the electoral process and the vote decided it)

Oh and we are not remotely close to being rich , are not homeowners and spend most months figuring out how to make it through. Not to mention I have spent my entire adult career working in Adult social care , working 90 hours a week previously , regularly unpaid to support others. It will be a really tough argument if you knew my history to claim I dont care about vulnerable people.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 12/12/2019 23:36

Oh and we lost our AAA credit rating twice in the last ten years, to lose it again would severely damage any possibility of a customs union after Brexit and Corbyns proposed public spending would definitely have killed that status. Solid enough PP for you?

Jillyhilly · 12/12/2019 23:43

It’s always seemed to me to be a lefty echo chamber full of people who are constantly amazed that not everyone shares their viewpoint.

micromoomin · 12/12/2019 23:44

What?? No. MN is so left wing!!

allyjay · 12/12/2019 23:47

There seems to be a massive influx of Tories recently. Depressing

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/12/2019 23:52

I don't think it's an influx, just a loudening.

That and many openly pondering what they would do with their vote having resigned from the LP or just decided they couldn't vote for them any more.

A bit like Brexit, Leavers were
/ are most definitely jumped on, into silence, by the MN Remain majority.

Other sites the exact opposite happens. You need to be reading both, to keep your opinions well informed

GCAcademic · 12/12/2019 23:54

Don't be daft. It's less Labour than it used to be, admittedly. But more Labour-leaning than the population in general.

Jillyhilly · 12/12/2019 23:54

Good posts @Shinyletsbebadguys

MrsToothyBitch · 12/12/2019 23:55

I find mn to be incredibly left wing. I'm not & it doesn't stop me enjoying the many non political threads and agreeing with people or sharing a laugh.

But it can get pretty heated on here pre election!

NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat · 12/12/2019 23:57

Hardly! MN is disproportionately packed out with Labour supporters

viccat · 13/12/2019 00:01

It's not the "rich" voting for Johnsson's Tory party though, it's the working class Brexiteers who want "their country back". It's all those people from the xenophobic vox pops we see on BBC News outside scruffy shopping centres who think the NHS is in a crisis because of too many Romanian immigrants.

Pretty much all my professional, middle class, suburban friends on good incomes are left wing.

Antigonads · 13/12/2019 00:04

It’s a massive left wing echo chamber

CuriousaboutSamphire · 13/12/2019 00:05

AKA people who are 3rd 4th generation with no prospects, no financial future, no choices, no chances.

Calling them racist, no matter how politely, missed their point.

Antigonads · 13/12/2019 00:06

Fucking hell viccat.

There you have it viccat

Bring on the morning and stick your patronising attitude where the sun don’t shine.

Singlenotsingle · 13/12/2019 00:12

viccat so true. The poorer working class people haven't seen much benefit, if any, from being in the EU. No wonder they want out, hence the Conservative vote. As you say, pretty much all my comfortable, professional friends on good incomes have benefited from the EU and vote Labour.

Chloemol · 13/12/2019 00:14

Don’t know what threads you have been reading, most on here seem rabid labour supporters, very happy to slap down anyone who dare disagree with them

Patroclus · 13/12/2019 00:15

75% whineing tories complaining about being a minority and persecuted....
