Can they own up to a picture of a child lying on the floor in the NHS, and say we need better treatment for all?

OP posts:
AlunWynsKnee · 12/12/2019 13:03

I am currently 6 months overdue for an appointment with the specialist for one of my chronic conditions. I have an appointment in June 2020 which has been rescheduled from February 2020.
For my other condition I am no longer seen by a specialist as the only specialist at the hospital is overwhelmed.
I don't believe the Conservatives will make this any better.

ScreamingLadySutch · 12/12/2019 13:08

What is with this unhinged hysteria about the NHS?

Are you idiots REALLY going to vote for an anti-Semitic Marxist, just because 'you have decided' that the Tories are terrible for the NHS?

THE TORIES DO NO DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER GOVERNMENT ON NHS FUNDING.

The NHS is some intensely weird State Cultist Religion for unhinged people. Please go to Germany or France and see how wonderful a NON NHS health provision can be like,

if you would just open your minds!

FFS please do not inflict a marxist government on this wonderful country because, NHS hissy fit.

ajandjjmum · 12/12/2019 13:12

Am I the only one staggered that a worried mother would find the time and energy to take a photo of her sick child, and then send it to various media outlets?

It's not just money the NHS needs - it's proper management.

Sammi38 · 12/12/2019 13:12

I wonder what Jez’s ‘4 day week’ will look like in the nhs?

ScreamingLadySutch · 12/12/2019 13:24

ALL POLITICAL PARTIES know that the NHS is not fit for purpose (inside information).

They are just all too terrified to tackle the wierd State Cultist Religion for unhinged people, so kick the can down the road for 'the other party' to deal with (inside information).

Seriously, we need Mrs Thatcher back to bash people across the head with her handbag and JUST DO IT (reform the fucking thing). She is the only person with the balls.

Because miraculously (like it did with BT etc), screaming dies down when people discover for themselves, its actually better than it was when they were screeching about the change.

I am old enough to remember the screeching about British Telecom.

Funny, nobody is agitating to go back to waiting lists for a land line, are they, when it was 'free' but bureaucrats ran it?
WHY do you cling on to waiting lists queues and rationing at GP and hospitals FFS!

PS son chronically ill with an auto immune disease so lets not use anecdotes as evidence.

This is a structural and economic problem, not the moral and emotional problem irrational worshippers are making it out to be.

FrangipaniBlue · 12/12/2019 13:25

Getting to within 1% of budgeted funds across about 400 trusts/groups without overspending is astonishingly efficient.

No its not.

Efficiency is when you achieve the same for less £ (or achieve more for the same £).

They came in under budget because they didn't spend money on some services. They essentially didn't deliver.

That's not good business/financial management.

It like a builder saying "look, we got to the end of March and hadn't spent all of your money on your new house, we saved you £X". But then you look inside the house and realise it has no running water, heating or electrics.......

RunningAwaywiththeCircus I've seen so many incidents you describe! I work in healthcare and my partner is a paramedic. He gets called to no end of ridiculous calls, fake calls, people who have been drinking or drug taking etc.

Then if you end up in a&e the amount of people with colds etc is shocking! When my eldest was a baby there were no beds anywhere for him so between treatments we were in and out of the a&e waiting room for over 36hrs. During that time a lady came with a newborn saying he couldn't breathe and she got told to sit and wait! She was sobbing "please my baby can't breather properly look at him" and the receptionist just stood there and the others didn't bother to do anything either! Ds's dad ran to get medical staff it was awful. I often wonder if the baby made it.

My partner needed and ecg and his GP told him the only way to get one was to go to a&e. Surely there should be some kind of system where the GP communicates with the hospital to book appointments for these things! I think it's all arse-covering. The GP said to go to a&e just in case my partner had something serious I think and the GP didn't want it to come back to bite them.

OriginalMe · 12/12/2019 13:45

Am I the only one staggered that a worried mother would find the time and energy to take a photo of her sick child, and then send it to various media outlets? It doesn't take much time or energy though. Maybe 5 or 10 seconds to take a photo. Maybe a few minutes to send it to people. If you're on a phone you only really have to move your thumb! I was exhausted after giving birth but I still took many photos and sent them to my family/friends.

Hopeforthemany · 12/12/2019 13:49

I work in the NHS and yes people going to A&E for non emergency reasons is leading to longer waiting times. However no beds is because there is people in them that need them and we have lost 17,000 beds in 10 years.

Greysparkles · 12/12/2019 13:52

It’s not the only photo of those conditions, my friends 3 month old was left to sleep on two chairs pushed together, with bronchitis

A 3 month old? Really? Why couldn't the parents hold them rather than dump a poorly baby on a chair

ScreamingLadySutch · 12/12/2019 13:53

"He gets called to no end of ridiculous calls, fake calls, people who have been drinking or drug taking etc. [and the other examples]

This is because it is FREE (at the point of use, it isn't actually free at all).

Does nobody understand the inherent problem of socialism! People devalue free stuff! IF you link payment between the consumer and the provider (which DOES NOT HAPPEN) in the NHS...

this abuse/infinite demand is sharply curtailed for real medical issues.

Hopefully the Cultists are not yet hysterical by this observation. WE ALREADY PAY for the NHS (NI contributions). There can be a much better way to link payment than the State/bureucract inefficient model that is the NHS.

This is so obvious I fail to see why it is an issue, let alone something that people would collapse their country over!!!

suziesue45 · 12/12/2019 13:54

@runningawaywiththecircus - I fully agree with you, too many people wasting valuable resources when genuine people are having to wait with potentially life threatening illnesses :(

@ringdonna - As a senior manager shouldn't you be doing something about the managers and staff? Poor decision making and laziness can be managed by senior managers you know?

Sammi38 · 12/12/2019 13:58

Exactly. Because it’s free at point of use, it is being badly abused.

All the drunks on Saturday nights clogging up a and e, and all the resources, then getting verbally and physically abusive to staff? It’s ridiculous.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 12/12/2019 13:59

What do you mean by defeat the NHS?

Тhe NHS doesn’t have candidates running in the election. They are not a party.

ajandjjmum · 12/12/2019 14:03

As someone who has sat with a sick baby in hospital on many occasions (14 ops.), I certainly didn't have the energy or mind space to worry about distributing photographs - certainly not to advance my political beliefs.
I was worried about my child getting care and attention, but accepted that sometimes the staff/facilities were under pressure, and worked within that. If my child had been seen within 20 minutes of arriving at hospital, I would have been thrilled. This was in the late 90's incidentally - when obviously Tone had everything under control!

ScreamingLadySutch · 12/12/2019 14:04

This cartoon literally explains why the NHS cannot deal with the demand placed on it.

If tomorrow the Tories/Boirs defeat the NHS
Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/12/2019 14:06

I had to smile; one of the earlier posters seems to be searching for any threads at all about politics - even zombie ones 3 years old - and plopping silly messages

And then they claim this isn't an organised thing ...

ChristmasSpirtsOnTheRocksPleas · 12/12/2019 14:10

Even boris Johnson isn’t politically suicidal enough to reform the NHS (even though it’s desperately needed). At worst he’ll do nothing and things will continue to deteriorate. At best he’ll throw some money at it, maybe outsource some parts to the private sector in hopes of saving costs. At any rate good healthcare will not be accessible to most Brits anytime in the next decade.

19lottie82 · 12/12/2019 14:12

Lol @ anyone who thinks labour will make things any better! The NHS needs a complete rehaul not more cash thrown into its black hole!

Theredjellybean · 12/12/2019 14:15

I am a doctor and can't wait for JC's 4 day week... Currently working a 17 day run as my department is failing targets and we are all being pressured to over staff the department to meet the targets.
All that happens is the people who turn up with trivial stuff, get seen relatively quickly, so are rewarded for coming to a and e when in fact if they waited 20 odd hrs with their cold they might think twice.
But hey roll on my four day week...

ajandjjmum · 12/12/2019 14:21

Theredjellybean
Sounds like really hard work - and too long hours. Genuine question. Do you get paid overtime? I know a recently qualified doctor who earned a fortune providing 'bank' cover - is that the reason you're being asked to work such long hours?

I really think a cross party group to sort out the NHS would be an excellent thing to set up. Knowledgeable people who are not working to a political agenda.

LochJessMonster · 12/12/2019 14:23

@ChristmasSpirtsOnTheRocksPleas At any rate good healthcare will not be accessible to most Brits anytime in the next decade.
I think in the UK we do get access to good healthcare. We are extremely lucky to have the access we do.

Stooshie8 · 12/12/2019 14:23

Perhaps tally the number of patients where alcohol contributed to their need for admission and charge the booze companies more tax.
