To be annoyed at Just Eat? Glass in burger.

Last night ordered 20 quid takeaway through just eat. Paid cash.

Friends pasta was stone cold in the middle. Like fridge cold.
So whilst she was on the phone to the takeaway place. I thought my tooth had broken on my burger, I find 2 pieces of glass in my mouth.

Restaurant says the manager isn't there. Nothing they can do. Policy is no refunds.

Nobody wants to eat now that they think there may be glass in the food.

Call just eat who say they can't help as we paid by cash. Not their problem.

Calm restaurant back. They say call just eat to sort it.

Eventually got refund from restaurant in cash

But am I being unreasonable to think if just eat are the providing platform they should have something in place in the event of cash orders or they should at least make this clear at the time of ordering that if you pay cash you are up shit creek if anything goes wrong? I had no idea prior to this.

You are being incomprehensible.

BooksForChristmas · 10/12/2019 18:02

How so?

The restaurant said its not their issue. Just eat will sort it.

Just eat said its not our issue. Restaurant will sort it.

Took 2 hours of phone calls to both and explaining the same thing half a dozen times to finally get a refund.

Surely something like glass in a burger should be an automatic refund?

I would expect the restaurant to be responsible.

SlightlyStaleCocoPops · 10/12/2019 18:04

Just Eat didn't make the food though did they?

HanginWithMyGnomies · 10/12/2019 18:04

how utterly useless! At least you got your money back. (I didn’t find you incomprehensible btw 🤷🏻‍♀️).

Stickybeaksid · 10/12/2019 18:04

It’s not just eats fault. They didn’t cook your dinner.

ItsChristmaaaaaaaaas · 10/12/2019 18:04

Or environmental health!

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 10/12/2019 18:04

How is it Just Eat's fault there was glass in the burger? They just pick it up from the restaurant and bring it to you. They don't make it and aren't responsible for quality control.

Lunafortheloveogod · 10/12/2019 18:04

Justeat can’t refund you if the money never went through them. And really if the manager wasn’t in they likely wouldn’t have any more power than you calling up.

Even with card payments they try to get you to sort it with the restaurant first.

Seeline · 10/12/2019 18:05

Surely Just Eat just deliver the food? Can't see how it's their problem.

Glass in food - report the restaurant to Environmental Health.

Anotheruser02 · 10/12/2019 18:05

I would use Just Eat again after that, but I wouldn't use that restaurant again.

Lunafortheloveogod · 10/12/2019 18:05

Also from home over a phone neither the cook nor just eat can see the glass in the burger. Which likely got into it in a factory where the burger was made.

Hilda44 · 10/12/2019 18:06

Glass in food is serious, you could go to the eho (Environmental health officer)

Anotheruser02 · 10/12/2019 18:08

They just pick it up from the restaurant and bring it to you. They don't make it and aren't responsible for quality control.

I don't think they even do that, isn't that Deliveroo that have their own drivers? I think Just eat is like ebay for food when I have a Just eat I get the staff from that restaurant I think.

Nicknacky · 10/12/2019 18:08

You weren’t up shit creek though. You got a refund.

GloGirl · 10/12/2019 18:10

Yes please go to environmental health! Shock

CynthiaRothrock · 10/12/2019 18:15

Your anger is misplaced. Just eat are a delivery service. Quite literally a taxi for food. The driver goes to the counter and picks the food up and brings it to you. They don't make or even wrap/package the food. I know that it's annoying being passed from pillar to post but just eat have no authority over the kitchens! They pick up from hundreds of different food places.

Glass in the food needs reporting to FSA/environmental health. This is a kitchen problem Not a delivery service problem. Glass is a very serious matter as if it had been swallowed the damage could have been life threatening.

Ohdearohdearyme · 10/12/2019 18:15

It is down to the restaurant, I wouldnt expect just eat to refund you cash you paid directly to the restaurant. You did get your money back though so you weren't really up shits creek.

Take the matter of the glass up with the restaurant again and environmental health.

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 10/12/2019 18:16

@Anotheruser02 - ah yes, you're right. Just Eat just forward your order to the restaurant don't they?

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 10/12/2019 19:40

Report to environment health, just eat merely provide an IT service, in the old days it'd be like blaming the newspaper for something you bought from the classifieds Grin

halloumi2019 · 10/12/2019 19:51

Just eat have given me 2 refunds (years apart) in the past, I always pay with card or Apple Pay though. It was a pain to sort out though.

The first time years ago, there was plastic in my “Belgium waffle”. You know those thin plastic T shaped tags that attach the price labels to clothes? One of THOSE was cooked into my waffle, I just bit down on something solid and wiry, it was so disgusting. It was very long as well. Just eat at first told me to contact the restaurant but immediately refunded me after I sent photos.

The second time recently, I ordered from KFC but they gave me the wrong order. KFC told me to contact just eat, who told me to email KFC head officeHmm in the end I asked for a just eat manager who refunded me about 2 weeks after the event

VanyaHargreeves · 10/12/2019 19:58

Just Eat are literally just a middle man go between for small takeaways to get online and receive payment.

The takeaway may not like it but they are the ones liable here.

halloumi2019 · 10/12/2019 19:59

Also definitely report to environmental health
