Please help me find this puzzle!

I played it about 8 years ago on the PC (online?)but it had been out quite a while at that point.

It was a puzzle/ riddle solving game and quite difficult.

When game was originally out it had som real life clues to solve. There was a prize I think and it was like a treasure hunt. This part had ended when I played it but the puzzle part online (?) could still be played.

Very vague I know!!

Enigma? That was a real life prize puzzle/treasure hunt game I think

Pushmepullyou · 09/12/2019 23:30

Or I could have just made that up. I have no idea what recess of my mind I dragged it up from!

LMW1990 · 09/12/2019 23:32

The name doesn't ring a bell. I seem to recall that you had to subscribe to the real life bit somehow.

Could it be Perplex City?

LMW1990 · 09/12/2019 23:39

No I don't think so. No board game element that I'm aware of. Just PC or online. There were a lot of levels. The puzzles were quite difficult (at least for me!)

Mystery PI OR The Room?

LMW1990 · 09/12/2019 23:46

No neither of those. It came out in early 2000s I think

Professor Layton?

MrsHerculePoirot · 09/12/2019 23:50

I was going to say Perplex City too! Loved the first season was so sad the second one never finished.

Amanda0878 · 09/12/2019 23:51

Wow that's jogged a memory, I don't remember an online element but I did have a couple of puzzle magazines/books from WH Smith's that I'm sure led to a real life prize. I'm sure one was a da Vinci code theme. If you are looking for something similar now have you tried Journal 29? No treasure at the end but a great puzzle book.

Binglebong · 09/12/2019 23:52

Or Masquerade?

Mi5 /GCHQ do recruitment that way sometimes.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 09/12/2019 23:52

Was it Myst or Riven?

LMW1990 · 10/12/2019 00:06

Non of these I don't think but I'll be looking at these as alternatives!

It was definitely online. There might have been a subscription for the real life element.

Majestic?

LMW1990 · 10/12/2019 15:56

None of these but thank you for the suggestion.

Each level was pretty separate and individual. There wasn't a map or journey of any kind. Just a new puzzle for each level.

I seem to recall some levels having words which you had to find the significance of.

The answers were a number or a word you typed into a box.

MrsHerculePoirot · 10/12/2019 21:59

Are you sure that isn’t perplex city? Each card had a number and you entered it in a box. It did lead to something somewhere but most people just played the game for the puzzles?

Justabadwife · 10/12/2019 22:06

It wasnt mindmaze on encarta was it? I loved that game :)

Cinderbelly · 10/12/2019 22:08

Was it puzzle donkey?

LMW1990 · 19/02/2021 22:57

I'm raking up an old thread here but I'm still trying to find this game! It's none of the ones previously suggested Confused
