4.15pm and it's pitch dark - where has the light gone?

Hate this time of year. It started getting dark around 2.30pm. Pitch dark by 4.15pm.

Won't be daylight again until 8.30am tomorrow morning. It's lashing rain outside and is forecast to do similar for most of the week.

Winter can fuck off. Roll on the Solstice and at least the nights start getting shorter again.

Love it!Grin

Ohyesiam · 08/12/2019 16:29

Move to the West Country, it’s still only twilight here Xmas Grin. But it’s ben sunny here for the last few hours, which helps.
I do get you though, I’m already longing for a beach day.

Themazeoflife · 08/12/2019 16:31

Get some sparkly lights on, light a few candles, make inside warm and cosy inside, then it won't matter what outside is like.

recklessruby · 08/12/2019 16:33

With you all the way. It s so depressing. I do love spring when the nights start to get longer.

Mishappening · 08/12/2019 16:35

Oh how I hate it!! I am with you all the way on this. I hate driving in the dark, so the day is curtailed for me. My grandmother used to say how she hated the dark evenings and I thought she was just a grumpy old woman. I now understand her grief.

Sorry poster but that is twee nonsense.

It is still dark and lashing with rain outside however warm it is inside. I don't want to be "cosy" and sparkly lights are no substitute for daylight. I don't think I've seen strong daylight since last Sunday. A week. Just gloom.

Book a last minute holiday to the southern hemisphere - plenty of light to enjoy Grin

BarbedBloom · 08/12/2019 16:39

I love it but do get some people don't. I feel the same way during the summer. It will pass

Littlecaf · 08/12/2019 16:40

I like it for a few weeks then January comes and I think “oh hurry up spring”

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/12/2019 16:40

BarbedBloom me too.

MotherHeggy · 08/12/2019 16:41

On the upside,it's only a couple of weeks until the Winter Solstice. The days will slowly get longer from then.

PsychosonicCindy · 08/12/2019 16:41

I love winter, rain and the dark evenings! ❄❄❄

PineappleDanish · 08/12/2019 16:42

@rhubarbcrumbles I would be on that plane immediately. But unfortunately it's not practical for a whole lot of reasons. Once the kids are grown and left home I'm going to be one of those people who decamps to Tenerife between November and February each year.

It's not about heat. It's about light. Or lack of it.

it's so that you can see the lit christmas decorations better.
or play hide and seek in a totally dark house.
or go out jumping in muddy puddles followed by a hot chocolate and warm bath.

I completely agree. It's utterly depressing.

The only upsides to winter is that my five year old sleeps better.

Stupiddriver1 · 08/12/2019 16:45

I hate it. Not helped by 2 hours of cycle commuting every day. In the pitch black and cold.

PineappleDanish · 08/12/2019 16:45

Hot chocolate and a warm bath is my idea of hell. Almost as bad as a spa day...

Summer haters can buy blackout blinds to stop the sun streaming in their windows at 4am. There is nothing that anyone can do to address the lack of daylight in December. Even a fuckton of fairy lights is no substitute.

Absolutely fucking hate this time of year and all the cosy people too. I hate the term "cosy" 🤮

Just wait until the "snuggling under a blanket" people turn up...

Look up SAD. There's lots you can do frankly.

PineappleDanish · 08/12/2019 16:55

Oh I know. I'm sitting in front of my lightbox daily, and taking strong Vit D.

But it's not the same as waking up and it being light. Or it not getting dark until 7pm or later.

Yeah this is the worst part of living in Scotland, we get fuck all daylight in winter! In the summer we only get a few hours of complete darkness, love summer I think I’m solar powered.

lazylinguist · 08/12/2019 17:03

I'm with you on the twee cosy thing, but being inside with the lights on when it's cold and dark outside is hardly a silly suggestion. Unless you're hoping someone is going to come up with a way to cancel winter.

roiseandjim · 08/12/2019 17:05

I adore this weather. Rainy and dark out, Xmas lights on, Chinese on the way. Perfect
