To have realised why I can't vote Labour in the GE!

I feel that I've got to preface this by saying I'm a Labour supporter, and hate the thought of voting for BJ and his cronies.

However, me and DH were talking earlier - given how divisive JC is, and obviously Brexit also, do Labour supporters really want Labour to be the ones dealing with Brexit? I'm just thinking of how damaging it could be to them in future elections, and if they 'mess it up', they might not be elected for decades to come. Then we'd be stuck with the Tories! Think back to the Lib Dems coalition; no one my age would ever dream of voting for them even with NC gone; could this happen to Labour if they scrap Brexit, or put us through another however many years of negotiations?

For this reason I'm now thinking keep Conservative in for the next couple of years, let them deal with Brexit and tarnish their reputation, and then we can have a decade of Labour to follow as they'll be seen as the better option.

Is this crazy?

For voting purposes - yes if I'm speaking any sense!

People are already dying. If you have any shred of human decency then conservatives should not be an option. Also have you seen how expensive medical bills will be if they sell of the NHS?

fortunatelynot · 07/12/2019 16:38

Makes no sense at all. I question why you call yourself a labour supporter, yet think they can't handle negotiations

This. It’s almost laughable if it wasn’t so serious.

GREATAUNT1 · 07/12/2019 16:38

Brexshit will never be done under the Tory’s.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 07/12/2019 16:39

I think tactical voting is the best option for anyone who doesn't support either party. That's what i'm going to do, very reluctantly. This is the first time in my life I cannot support any of the parties with any degree of confidence. It's an absolute tragedy what has happened to the political system in this country. It's vote for one idiot, one liar, or one useless half wit who couldn't find their way out of a paper bag...

ListeningQuietly · 07/12/2019 16:39

Hefzi
Are you happy to vote for a party that is institutionally Islamophobic?
There are 2,660,000 muslims in the UK

Remember that the Chief Rabbi is a friend of Boris Johnson's and speaks only for 60,000 of the UKs 300,000 Jews

My concerns with the Tory Manifesto are more about its plans to politicise and overrule the courts when it suits them

that would damage the UK for ever

MistyCloud · 07/12/2019 16:43

@GREATAUNT1

BREXSHIT! Grin

SentimentalKiller · 07/12/2019 16:43

If we get BJs brexit there will be changes that won't be reversed for many years

JavaQ · 07/12/2019 16:44

Vote Conservative.

@wafflyversatile that's assuming he can just negotiate a good deal just like that. What if he can't, or MPs don't agree with it again? Good in theory, but not so simple in reality, which annoys me because I like the theory!

' let the Tory's carry on for a couple of years then we can have decade of labour'
Says who???
You think if the Tory party get in again they'll ever let there be another election?
And frankly we will all be dead ( this of us who aren't minted or royalty) if they get in again
THIS ELECTION IS NOT JUST ABOUT FECKING BREXIT!

RedWineIsFabulous · 07/12/2019 16:46

Anyone but Corbyn

You will never get an impartial view on here as this site is 95% left wing

So naturally everyone here will tell you you are utterly insane for voting conservative.

Make your own mind up.

TheQueef · 07/12/2019 16:46

Remember independent candidates need to get enough votes to get a deposit back, if you really can't decide don't waste it at least let it be counted.

Moonmelodies · 07/12/2019 16:49

A lot of people are worrying that voting Labour would result in a no-deal Brexit, what with all the renegotiation, campaigning, referendums, inevitably endless parliamentary bunfights, prorogations etc., while deadlines come and go in the background.

ListeningQuietly · 07/12/2019 16:51

The only people voting for Corbyn are those in his constituency.
The rest of us are voting for our local candidates and must choose between them

Corbyn will not get a majority.

So its about deciding whether you want Boris to get a majority and carry out the Tory manifesto
please read the section about changes to the judiciary

or whether you want a hung parliament that will bring Brexit to a head and move things in a more moderate direction

Sciurus83 · 07/12/2019 16:53

Batshit mate

fortunatelynot · 07/12/2019 16:55

Yes, do seem to be fewer Tories on here. It’s interesting because in RL I am surrounded by them (including all of the teachers at the school where I work), my hairdresser, my neighbours and generally most people I know who come from all walks of life.

In fact some have changed TO Tory as they say they simply cannot take the risk that JC will get into power.

BackInTime · 07/12/2019 16:58

I just feel so worried about whether Labour have promised too much and won't be able to deliver any of it. And then what?

I think even if Labour only delivered half of what they promised it would be far less damaging than a hard right Tory government hell bent on Brexit at any cost.

JavaQ · 07/12/2019 17:05

Vote Conservative

Grin

Are those people still glued to Corbyn's railings? Someone should take them a hot drink.

Besidesthepoint · 07/12/2019 17:07

*Brexit is not at the centre of my thinking this election
*
It is the only reason why there is an election now though.

JavaQ · 07/12/2019 17:11

Boris is just for Christmas, not for life. There will be another leader along in a minute

Vote Conservative.

Hefzi who said this?

"“I am delighted to congratulate Boris Johnson, a longstanding friend and champion of the Jewish community, on becoming the next leader of the Conservative Party and our next Prime Minister. As he accepts upon himself the mantle of responsibility to lead our nation, may he be blessed with the wisdom to successfully navigate the political uncertainties we face and bring healing and prosperity to our great country.”

Alsohuman · 07/12/2019 17:24

is 5 years of Tory rule a sacrifice worth making for a longer Labour rule after?

The damage another five years of Tory government will inflict will be irreparable.

WitheredfromtheLake · 07/12/2019 17:25

BJ is planning to change the constitution, make judges politically appointed, and limit the powers of the Commons to challenge his actions.
Do you think in 5 years' time we will be given another opportunity to vote him out?

wafflyversatile · 07/12/2019 17:29

@wafflyversatile that's assuming he can just negotiate a good deal just like that. What if he can't, or MPs don't agree with it again? Good in theory, but not so simple in reality, which annoys me because I like the theory!

Whatever deal he negotiates will go to referendum. It would be difficult for mps to justify denying the electorate whatever that deal is if they vote for it.

As I say, least worst. There is no great way out of this now. The tories let the genie out of the bottle. Never forget it's their doing.
