If you have a boyish boy, reserved and not into dancing, where did they learn how to dabcecso that they could join in in school parties?

Just that.

Agadoo?? Wtf?? My very boyish boy doesn't know the actions to this! He would just copy!

He loves a dance and has done since he was he was tiny.

OhioOhioOhio · 07/12/2019 20:28

Mine doesnt. He starts. Feels caught out. Is embarrassed. Sits out.

If it was a reading thing or maths no one would bat an eyelid that I was trying to give him a boost.

I just had to mimic my friends, some had older siblings which they had followed.

Just stick on YouTube and have a fun afternoon doing the routines.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 07/12/2019 20:48

Pre youtube days we tried to teach my DF the Timewarp. He is in his 80s now and not in the best of health but he still gets up and gives it a go at parties, much to ours and all his dgcs amusement although my DM just sits there and rolls her eyes.

MAFIL · 07/12/2019 21:06

They didn't.
Both my teenage boys would rather eat their own livers than go to a school disco, and if they ever did, they definitely wouldn't join in with dancing.

Lweji · 07/12/2019 21:07

Poor kids. I hope they are 5.

OhioOhioOhio · 07/12/2019 21:36

There abouts.

It's really normal for a 5 year old to feel a bit overwhelmed at a school disco. He might join in next time as he has more of an idea what goes on.

Do you have to stay? Mine join in more when I am not there.

If you want him to know the dance do it with him in the house. We have mini discos for my nieces and nephews fairly regularly. Music on, and dance around together.

doritosdip · 08/12/2019 14:27

I thought the title was about learning viral dances like dabbing and flossing!

doritosdip · 08/12/2019 14:28

My teenagers know YMCA and picked up things like the Macarena at parties.

rhubarbcrumbles · 08/12/2019 14:30

Neither of my boys (or my girl for that matter) have ever needed to know as far as I know, they just work it out as they go along surely? That's all we ever did when we were teenagers.

Sashkin · 08/12/2019 14:39

Agadoo? Fucking hell I’m in my 40s and that was naff at school discos even in my day (they played Rick Astley, Madonna, NKOTB).

Most boys at primary discos jump around instead of proper dancing. By senior school, they’ve usually perfected the drum&bass arms-folded-nodding-at-the-side-of-the-dancefloor routine. If he wants a better sense of rhythm, send him to a street dance class. But don’t force it on him, plenty of kids never dance at school discos.

doritosdip · 08/12/2019 14:40

Some kids don't like discos. My sons would run around with their friends playing tag rather than dance. They wouldn't have a clue about Agadoo

VenusClapTrap · 08/12/2019 15:05

What does ‘boyish boy’ even mean? Plays football? My football playing ds also does ballet. He’s a brilliant dancer. At the school disco he’s mostly to be seen running around yelling and eating sweets though.

notacooldad · 08/12/2019 18:44

I think you should have some house parties!
My mum and dad used to have loads and we all did the latest fun dances! ( including agado...prob!ably!)

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 08/12/2019 18:50

DS would rather peel himself than dance at a disco, school or otherwise.

AndWhatnot · 08/12/2019 18:56

It’s not Saturday Night Fever out there

Brilliant, this cracked me up Grin

MAFIL · 08/12/2019 19:27

I would have left home if my parents had done that notacooldad and I am pretty sure my children would feel the same - my DD because she is a professionally trained dancer who would rather die than do "fun" dances and my boys because they would just rather die than go to parties, full stop.

Oh give over! We were under 10 and allowed to stay up a little later and join in with a party.
It's not we we getting trained for strictly!!!
I cant think of the ' fun ' dances but stuff like oops upside your head and that. Just having a laugh really.
I not sure what your professional daughter has to do with having a laugh at a party!!
