If you have a boyish boy, reserved and not into dancing, where did they learn how to dabcecso that they could join in in school parties?

Just that.

Might be worth looking at local
dance schools, some of the ones here do ‘street dance’ and have a fair proportion of boys. Even if he doesn’t want to be a dancer, you could sign him up for a term under guise of getting more exercise

Leedsmom · 07/12/2019 06:54

My ds’ dabcesco moves consist of:
Knee slides (appear to be innate)
Moonwalking (you tube)
Dabbing (watching others)
Handstands (goodness knows!)

He loves a school disco!

my2bundles · 07/12/2019 06:55

They don't need to. They invent their own moves just like every generation before them.

Leedsmom · 07/12/2019 06:56

Oh yes-how could I forget the worm Grin

A lot of it is just copying the ones who do know what they’re doing if they feel the need. Otherwise knee slides are more than sufficient

needsomehelptoday · 07/12/2019 07:13

Of course they don't need to know the moves for agadoo Confused

BertieBotts · 07/12/2019 07:16

Agadoo :o Showing your age OP.

DS1 does Parkour so there is a fair bit of crossover with freestyle which is a sort of dance. Actually I can't really imagine him dancing, but knee slides sound like his kind of thing.

Dabbing for sure and flossing.

PotteringAlong · 07/12/2019 07:21

like all the actions to agadoo

Grin
FlamingoAndJohn · 07/12/2019 07:24

Why would a child in 2019 need to know the moves to agadoo?

OneOfTheGrundys · 07/12/2019 07:27

It’s not Saturday Night Fever out there. They mostly sit on their phones, run round and screech at parties. Then when they get a bit older they booze and snog.
Fear not. He’ll be ok!

EleanorShellstrop100 · 07/12/2019 07:27

This made me laugh so much, between ‘dabesco’, ‘disco dancing’, and ‘agadoo’ 😂

ShoeJunkie · 07/12/2019 07:31

Knee slides and flossing seemed to be all the boys needed to know at DS1’s last disco! Grin

MerryChristmasEveryone1974 · 07/12/2019 07:34

Ah! The sliding on your knees on the disco floor move - popular back in the early 80s when Shakin' Stevens songs were playing at the disco! Happy days! Nice to see kids still know that move! :)
Now I really want to be a kid again and go to a school disco! They're just not the same now!

needsomehelptoday · 07/12/2019 07:35

Why would a child in 2019 need to know the moves to agadoo?

I was born in '87 and I don't know the moves to agadoo Grin

Therebythedoor · 07/12/2019 07:35

So glad I'm not the only one who thought dabcecso was a new dance craze... Smile

DaphneFanshaw · 07/12/2019 07:36

I just assumed dabcesco was a fortnite dance.
No one does the agadoo anymore.

OhMsBeliever · 07/12/2019 07:39

I think the moves to Agadoo should be on the National Curriculum. It's our heritage you know. I can't believe there are people who don't know it. Such a sad reflection on society today. Grin

Mine just chatted with their friends at school discos or ran around like loons. No dancing skills needed.

I too though dabesco was a new type of dance. It won't be as good as Agadoo. Nothing is.

LL83 · 07/12/2019 07:40

Not seen agadoo for a party since I was a child. Macarena and Gangnam style maybe but not often. They are so repetitive he can learn it at the disco if he wants.

I have supervised school discos some know some good dance moves. Most run around playing and jumping.

my2bundles · 07/12/2019 07:41

If agadoo does get played they will either pick it up (its not that hard) invent moves or charge around. Don't over think this.

Hereyougosandwiches · 07/12/2019 07:41

Does anyone learn how to disco dance?!?!

itsmecathycomehome · 07/12/2019 07:42

Don't see agadoo, birdy song, Hokey Cokey or macarena any more sadly.

Even flossing seems to be on the way out.

Gangnam Style, Conga, Superman and Baby Shark still popular round here.

Sometimes, that song from Rocky Horror Picture Show which seems slightly risky.

Awrite · 07/12/2019 07:44

Hours and hours of Just Dance with his sister and cousins/Fortnite/dancing in gym class in school.

Where I live, the kids in secondary are taught Scottish (ceilidh) dancing in the run up to their Christmas Dance. Braw.

CodenameVillanelle · 07/12/2019 07:44

Agadoo Grin I don't think that's been at school discos since I was at primary school in the 80s

My kid is boyish but he loves dancing, learnt it all from fortnite, YouTube and TikTok.

TeenPlusTwenties · 07/12/2019 07:45

At our primary discos there was normally a 'dance leader' (who may or may not have been the person doing the music) who the children could copy. Occasionally this was y6 girls.
It's been really interesting to watch my DD2 over the years grow from a clueless 2 year old running around, to failing to copy the dances, to being a beat and a half behind to finally being spot on. Smile

Thurmanmurman · 07/12/2019 07:46

Mine can't dance, he just wiggles his bum and slides on his knees. Smooth moves🤣

PlumsGalore · 07/12/2019 07:47

What? Does he want to join in? Or do you want him to join in? My ds has never and will never dance.
