Having a joint credit card has suddenly become more complicated!

DH and I bank with Nationwide. We like to keep things simple so we have always shared one bank account and have one credit card between us. The card is mine and he has a copy, in his name, with the same card number. We've shared this card for about 20 years, and it has always worked well for us - we put most of our spending on it and I pay it off at the start of each month.

But ... all of a sudden things have become more complicated due to the new security mechanism of authorising payments by text message. Nationwide say only one phone number can be associated with the card, so if DH tries to buy something, the text message always comes to me. So he has to rely on me getting the message and forwarding it on to him.

What a pain! Is anyone else having the same problem and, if so, have you found a solution that doesn't involve having to take out a second credit card?

We share one cc account too, but our cards have different numbers on. Can nationwide not do that?

We have one credit card account in my name but with my husband as an additional card holder. His card has a different number, but linked to my account, and linked to his phone. No problem. Also means if one of our cards is stolen or cloned they don’t have to cancel both of them.

Can't quite see why this needs a YABU/YANBU vote?

It doesn't. It looks like MNHQ have changed the default settings on new threads so the voting buttons are enabled unless you specifically turn them off. Hmm

Dh and I are the same, his card I am the affiliated card holder (and main spender as SAHM) and for at least the last 20 years. So it is the same card number. Some credit cards have different numbers for each person.

We are with Tesco (for the points) and I don't know how they will determine who to send the text message to although they have taken both our numbers. It hasn't happened yet where they send it.

Could you not just have another card for your Dh if they will only do one number? Or ask them what their solution is. You cannot be the only ones with 2 card holders.
