Please help me identify this bug?

For around 2 or so months I've noticed these tiny little bugs on my toilet. They are always either on top of he tank or, more commonly, on the part between the bottom of the tank and the seat (where the seat/lid is screwed into the main body of the toilet).

They are very small, translucent, crawling creatures. They probably measure 2mm in length.

I see one or two a day, usually when going to bed. I only noticed them as they move quite quickly and I like to keep my loo clean so remove any dirt/bits I see straight away.

I should add that this is a new toilet as I moved into a newly built house in May this year.

Hope someone will be able to help me out with this one. Not going to lie it does freak me out a bit, I'm not at all a fan of insects/bugs.

Thank you!

It looks like a termite. Where are you?

userxx · 05/12/2019 22:10

I've never seen a bug like that.

I'm in Wales!

It sounds/looks like booklice. They like damp places so makes sense they’re in the bathroom. They don’t bite or spread any diseases, so I don’t think it’s anything to worry about.

hammeringinmyhead · 05/12/2019 22:17

Booklice? Guessing!

NaiceHamPlease · 05/12/2019 22:20

I'll second Booklice, as per Rooby they like damp. My tenants have a large amount in a damp bookcase Grin and we had to get pest control out to identify. They just said air, extractor and dehumidifier on. No risk to health, just annoying.
They can also come in on damp rice or dry goods....

Threeminis · 05/12/2019 22:21

I'm in a new build too and one of the other residents had an infestation of booklice. Something to do with the concrete not being given time to dry before they put the flooring down or something like that. The owners were rehoused for a couple of months while the property was fumigated to get rid of them.
I would go back to the developer and bring it up with them.
Good luck

Thanks all! Yes I think you're right about booklice. Makes sense as it's a new build. I will contact our developer tomorrow to see what they say.

So glad they're not harmful, but still freaks me out so much!

Hi

Was this ever resolved??

This week discovered them in my bathroom and sons room and then dotted around the house. I’m killing multiple a day but everyone around me is telling me to wait for our house to dry out as it’s a new build.

Already got 2 dehumidifiers on the go and I’m still finding them!
