House with swimpool. Is it pointless?

Hi lovelies!
My husband and I are considering buying a house with an indoor swimpool. We don't know anything about swimpools and are not sure if it's a good investment...

The property is in the UK and the swimpool is indoors (extension added to the house) and it also has a conservatory added to it. It's large space and the swimpool is rather generous when it comes to the sheer size of it.

Please, could you share your experience? We actually want to use the swimpool and are not considering the house because of it. We do actually like the property.

one bathroom? i guess you could use the swimming pool if you all wanted a bath

but no-seems disapportinate to the size of the house-and its been on since august so people arent desprate for this one for prob good reason

ssd · 08/12/2019 23:38

Has the op posted a link to her house, or just the pool pics? Am getting confused with people saying they love the house

MinervaSaidThat · 08/12/2019 23:40

@ssd a pp posted the rightmove page for the house way upthread. They must have used image search.

SonataDentata · 08/12/2019 23:48

I once lived in a similar house. No door on the ground floor closed properly due to the condensation issues. The pool also leaked and the whole thing was just generally an absolute nightmare. I’d avoid unless it’s in a kind of separate, sealed off area and has been installed really well.

ssd · 09/12/2019 07:59

MinervaSaidThat thank you, I'll look for that

ssd · 09/12/2019 08:04

Found the link!
Lovely house op, I'd go for it if the moneys fine.

longearedbat · 09/12/2019 08:43

There don't appear to be any windows in the kitchen? Or am I looking at it wrong?

SweetSally · 09/12/2019 14:28

Hi everyone

We've managed to squeeze a viewing over the weekend.

The house is massive. Way too big. It's very overwhelming and I would most certainly not live somewhere like that. One would need to employ an army of cleaners to keep that place to an acceptable standard.

Also, having seen the swimming pool and read people's comments here and advice on maintenance I could happily say that I do not wish to have a house with a pool :)

Hats down to everyone else who has a pool. It's such a commitment!

Aw that’s a shame. We were looking forward to the parties!

FizzyIce · 09/12/2019 16:48

I do t know why but “swimpool” makes me irrationally angry.
It’s Swimming pool

TatianaLarina · 09/12/2019 16:58

You’re probably wise not to take on a pool.

But pool aside, the house itself is small. It certainly wouldn’t take an army of cleaners. Mine takes 1 cleaner 10 hours a week and it’s a lot bigger.

DBML · 09/12/2019 17:00

We had a swimming pool. Extortionate to keep heated. Repairs were expensive when things went wrong. In the end we filled it in.

Housemum · 10/12/2019 16:29

I see you’ve made your mind up now, was just going to add my input - we bought a house which had an indoor pool (not used for several years so would have needed refurbishing) in a separate outbuilding. House had been on the market for a long time, pool put people off I think. DH’s job means he has clients who own ££££ houses, he spoke to those with pools who said they cost anything between £200 and £400/month to maintain. For that price we could have family membership at the local spa and not have the effort of cleaning the damn pool! We got rid of the pool and converted the building - from an estate agent estimate our renovation has added in value double what we spent on the building And decoration.

Booboostwo · 10/12/2019 19:33

If you’re not in love with the house there is no reason to add the issue of the pool.

FizzyIce RTFT you’ll find it enlightening.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 14/12/2019 18:25

Hats down to everyone else who has a pool.

Er, it’s hats off and hands down 😂.

FizzyIce · 14/12/2019 18:27

@Booboostwo How? I don’t like the sound of the word , I don’t need “ enlightening” thanks

Booboostwo · 14/12/2019 18:59

FizzyIce you are being really unpleasant to the OP. A large numbers of posters picked up on the odd word the OP used, despite her original meaning being perfectly clear. They kept focusing on this, derailing the thread, until the OP explained that English is a foreign language for her. 10 pages later, up you pop with the same idiotic remark. Until you learn to speak Croatian, leave the OP alone, her meaning is perfectly clear and she is not even buying the house.

Purpleartichoke · 14/12/2019 19:10

Poor decorating choices aside, I love that house. It needs another bathroom and toilet, but that could be dealt with. I don’t think it’s very big at all, but I have a cleaning team that comes in and cleans my house already, so I guess technically I have an army of cleaners already.

FizzyIce · 15/12/2019 10:29

@Booboostwo saying I don’t like the word means I’m unpleasant to the op?
Alright then..
Is it a hobby of yours to be offended on other people’s behalf ?
Have a nice day

Dita73 · 15/12/2019 10:31

Avoid. Swimming pools are a pain in the arse

Booboostwo · 15/12/2019 10:32

FizzyIce clearly it is a hobby of yours to offend other people. The OP said clearly that she found the repeated corrections to be racist, yet you persist.
Have a nice day too, as long as you are not too busy shoveling more dirt on yourself in the hole you have dug.

FizzyIce · 15/12/2019 10:36

Damn you’ve caught me out ! And racist ? Hardly , she was not the only one to say ”swimpool“ on this thread .
Have a day off,love

Booboostwo · 15/12/2019 10:44

Now you are confused over the meaning of the term 'racism'. You are racist when you pick on someone because of a racial characteristic, for example, making fun of their language skills because they are a foreigner. You do not become less racist if you are racist towards many people.
No, thank you, I'll call out inconsiderate and hurtful posters any day of the week.

MoonlightMistletoe · 15/12/2019 10:53

I'd go for it but if you have children I'd invest in a good locking system with the key around your neck!

Looks lovely!

olivehater · 15/12/2019 10:56

We have friends with a swimming pool. It isn’t open a lots of the years as it costs so much to run. As it is a big but not mega mansion I think they will struggle to sell it. I have other friend that cemented over theirs and turned it into a games room. Most people do not want in this country unless they are meg rich.
