I want to throw Glis Glis into the ring. The tail does not look hairy/ thick enough though.

Aka Edible dormouse? You might have missed a trick there, OP.

FizzyGreenWater · 05/12/2019 14:43

Maybe it is an elk

FizzyGreenWater · 05/12/2019 14:44

with a degu costume on

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/12/2019 14:46

with a degu costume on The very epitome of an Incredible Edible Dormouse Smile

churchandstate · 05/12/2019 15:10

I don’t care what it is [shudder]

churchandstate · 05/12/2019 15:17

But yes, it looks like a glis glis crossed with a rat.

DontCallMeShitley · 05/12/2019 15:24

Baby squirrel, tails are thin and gradually get fluffier.

I always love the concept of a fancy rat. But a dumbo rat? Now that's just plain rude! 🐀

BeardedVulture · 05/12/2019 15:31

It's a yellow-necked mouse

Thelnebriati · 05/12/2019 15:32

Yellow necked mice are tiny. I used to get them in my shed.

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/12/2019 15:33

Shrew or vole.

mouseorrat · 05/12/2019 15:47

I don't think it's a shrew or a mole, it wasn't very big

BaronessBomburst · 05/12/2019 16:00

Well it's not a ferret. They look like furry carrots and squeak.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 05/12/2019 16:08

Absolutely not a shrew. They are teeny and weigh about 10 grams. My gran's cat used to bring them in. They fit underneath fridges and they're hell to catch.

Also, they have uniquely distinctive faces.

DontCallMeShitley

I see the resemblance, but it's December. There's no way there can be baby squirrels that young knocking around, especially not in the OP's house. If the OP had a mother squirrel breeding out of season in her house, she'd know!

Missillusioned · 05/12/2019 16:22

Looks like a gerbil to me. They're like degus but smaller. I don't know why there would be 2 though. They are kept in groups though and sometimes people just dump pets.

UmmH · 05/12/2019 17:16

If you look closely at OP's zoomed pic of the tail, it is a bit fluffy at the end and very much like the degu in this pic:

@CuriousaboutSamphire
The underbelly is a different colour - rats are the same colour top and bottom

Some rats are the same colour top and bottom, but mine was a Berkshire: grey-black top coat, white belly. The other was an agouti: brown with a light belly.

UmmH · 05/12/2019 17:18

It might be worth contacting the local vet. If they are pet degus, someone may be missing them.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/12/2019 17:19

I sit corrected, forgot about Berkshires Grin

But the general point stands. They are MAINLY not lighter coloured under belly

Pestypete · 05/12/2019 17:22

Hi, this article appeared on my news page. I'm a pest controller, just wanted to put my tuppence worth in. That picture is a mouse, you can tell from the snout, the feet, the ears and the brown shade of fur. I wouldn't worry about any rat infestation, just tour everyday field mouse. Mice vary in sizes and to see large field mice is not uncommon.
Hops this helps Smile

Drabarni · 05/12/2019 17:23

That's definitely a dead rat and maybe it's sibling. All those thinking it's cute do you know it's mother father and rest of the huge family won't be too far way. Grin
OP I'd get pest control.

Drabarni · 05/12/2019 17:23

whoops missed last post Grin

DrunkSanta · 05/12/2019 17:24

That is a mouse. I am a vet. Defo a mouse. Ppl saving degu, squirrel etc please get eyes tested Smile
