Mouse or rat? Found it in the garden, about the size of a hamster

@BovaryX I agree with the traps outside, I will remove them, just overly cautious on the rat thing

Please tell me the squirrel and mole suggestions are piss taking. My sarcasm meter is off this morning.

Not a rat - tail too hairy (see photo of my cat's latest victim)
Not a degu - too small, no fluff on end of tail (and massively unlikely to trap two in the wild in the UK!)
Not a squirrel, it just isn't!
Not a mole, it just isn't!
Not a vole - too big
Not a shrew - nose too short

The only real candidate here is field mouse going by size, photo and description.

@Thelnebriati it does look similar but why would there be two of them?

mouseorrat · 05/12/2019 12:03

@ThunderboltandLightning completely agree ! It's the only logical thing in my eyes but unsure as I'm not an expert and other people know more than me

Good call. It’s sad to kill wildlife outside

RockinHippy · 05/12/2019 12:10

Looks like an scaled Degu to me too. Poor thing ☹️

RockinHippy · 05/12/2019 12:11

Escaped!! fuck you autocorrect 😏

RockinHippy · 05/12/2019 12:13

Definitely not a rat. I've kept them as pets & recently had a wild rat issue thanks to our first assed neighbours

RockinHippy · 05/12/2019 12:17

Though looking at the sizing again, I think I've changed my mind & it's more likely a wood mouse

itcamefrombeckyvardyself · 05/12/2019 12:34

Don't rats have rounded more pinky ears?

astralweaks · 05/12/2019 12:38

Poor thing.

PotholePalace · 05/12/2019 12:41

Degu feet.

I don't think it's a degu or a rat.

Tis a mouse, only a mouse has that tail.

If some of the comments on this thread are anything to judge by, no they don't!

Tigerty · 05/12/2019 13:38

Wood mouse. They are bigger than field mice with big ears and a long tail.

Either that of a young rat, but my money is on wood mouse.

Ohpleasefuckofflove · 05/12/2019 13:43

A MOLE 😂

FizzyGreenWater · 05/12/2019 13:45

Zomburat

I'm thinking-

Definitely not a mole or squirrel

Maybe a yellow necked mouse but it had bigger ears

Looks similar to degu thing but there was two and the odds of two unwanted pets being let loose is slim

I now don't think it was a rat but could be

I will get another picture now Confused

Name change failure, there.

Definitely a zombie if it has disappeared. Not sure I'd be able to sleep now.

mouseorrat · 05/12/2019 14:25

@Lweji hahah it is Grinnever mind, it is a zombie

Probably a dormouse.
Harmless (unless you're unreasonably possessive about every leaf in your garden) and very pretty.
Poor thing.
