Mouse or rat? Found it in the garden, about the size of a hamster

It was a mouse. Poor little thing!
Traps are so cruel. Evil.

mouseorrat · 05/12/2019 09:54

@QueenOfOversharing yea it does look like that!

mouseorrat · 05/12/2019 10:00

I'm tempted to go in the bin and get a better picture

OP posts:
Lweji · 05/12/2019 10:01

With a size reference. Preferably a ruler. Grin

Lweji · 05/12/2019 10:02

And a good close up of the tail.

BovaryX · 05/12/2019 10:02

It seems sad to put a trap outside. I feel sorry for the little critter irrespective of what it is. His poor little 🐾

hallohallohallo · 05/12/2019 10:03

It looks like a Degu.

vivacian · 05/12/2019 10:04

So you are setting traps outside then?

mouseorrat · 05/12/2019 10:05

Here's the full picture without zoom, the trap is a mouse trap not a rat trap for size reference and I'll get them out the bin and take a better pic

OP posts:
vivacian · 05/12/2019 10:08

Why have you set a trap in your garden??

BovaryX · 05/12/2019 10:08

Dunno. Just seems sad. Poor little thing

mouseorrat · 05/12/2019 10:09

One was in my kitchen under the kick board and one was in my garden, the garden trap was a box thing and the indoor one was a normal trap

OP posts:
mouseorrat · 05/12/2019 10:09

One was found in the house but both the same creature what ever they are

OP posts:
PhoneLock · 05/12/2019 10:10

We kill a lot of mice indoors with traps but I wouldn't set one outside.

That's where mice are supposed to live.

PenelopeFlintstone · 05/12/2019 10:10

I've never heard of a degu but I've googled and they're very cute.

vivacian · 05/12/2019 10:11

FFS.

QuarterPastMidnight · 05/12/2019 10:13

I'm also thinking it looks like a squirrel. Definitely not a rat or mouse

Knewmee · 05/12/2019 10:14

Why have a trap in your garden? There will be creatures there - they don’t do any harm. I can understand the house, but honestly think the garden is just cruel & runs risk of catching hedgehogs & moles & field mice, shrews etc. Wildlife have enough to put up with!

puds11 · 05/12/2019 10:18

It deffo looks like a degu but not sure why that would be in your garden.

I agree. OP, it seems unnecessarily cruel. Could you reconsider? It’s where lots of wildlife live. It’s pretty grim to do this

StudentHelp · 05/12/2019 10:18

Poor thing Sad

BreatheAndFocus · 05/12/2019 10:29

Not a rat or mouse - the ears are wrong and the shape of the face and ‘muzzle’ looks wrong too.

I’m going with squirrel or degu. It’s very pretty whatever it is.

Cryalot2 · 05/12/2019 10:32

The ears don't look like a rat.
A mouse tiny , so I think neither

argueifnecessary · 05/12/2019 10:36

Face looks like a chinchilla. Tail looks like a degu or a chinchilla. If there were two, then it makes sense being someone's pets as they are both social animals and should always be in pairs.
But it could also be that mouse, although I don't think the tail fits
