What three things made you happy / smile / laugh today?

Mine are:
1 A toasted slice of brioche loaf with salty butter and golden syrup for lunch
2 I do the M&S shoulder shuffle every time I see the advert or hear the music. I did it in the petrol station today
3 The dog has his chin on my knee

  1. Had a really fun morning at band rehearsal, I love Wednesday mornings!
  2. Enjoyed reading the lovely comments on my Playmobil advent thread.
  3. Had an afternoon listening to Christmas music on the CD player while making a birthday cake for my son who will be 19 tomorrow and whom I'm going to visit at uni.

Seeing a whippet dressed up in a red and white Christmas coat
A Fry's chocolate cream
Getting to the top of my nemesis - an 18 metre slab with two overhangs at the climbing wall tonight. I could never get past the second overhang and the joynat doing it has me high as a kite :-)

Getting DS’s uniform for his new school. He’s finally moving out of the school where he was constantly bullied and beaten up. He’s so happy, a completely different kid to the depressed withdrawn kid he was just last week.

Planning my future having sorted out some huge long lasting issues.

Sitting here not filled with worry and panic.

poppythetroll · 04/12/2019 22:40

@TheSubtleArt

  1. My children are the meal I cooked, enjoyed it and didn't complain

Yes it's usually a good day when we eat our children for tea and they don't complain 🤣🤣🤣!! Really made me laugh

Pinkarsedfly · 04/12/2019 22:42

A lad I work with, who has autism and has a real problem with saying please and thank you, said both to me today, completely unprompted. Made my day.

I had a nice tea.

DH brought me breakfast in bed this morning, and when I got in from work he’s bought me a bar of chocolate to cheer me up. A lot of things seem to be very difficult at the moment and he’s looking after me. I love him.

Lovely drive this morning to Winchester in the blazing sun and mist. Amazing scenery
Mill round the Xmas market, bought some toffee vodka
FaceTime from DD tonight to show me the cat snuggled up in front of the fire

sniffsneeze · 04/12/2019 23:07
  1. My Dad (87) saying he'd had a wonderful day. He doesn't get out much and I'm not around most of the time so he really appreciated being out and about. I had to gulp back tears.
  1. Beautiful sky and sea.
  1. Parents shouting Goodnight at bedtime like the Waltons.
Yarboosucks · 04/12/2019 23:37

@Davros, was the Winchester Crimbo Market any good this year?

  1. The 2 oldest DC made me a little book each from notepaper and pritt-stick with a very cute story inside
  2. I am nearly finished my book ive been reading for three weeks
  3. I bought an An amazing gingerbread candle from home bargains - it’s like Christmas in a jar
Davros · 04/12/2019 23:52

Yarboosucks we enjoyed the Xmas market but I think going at 11am today helped. It was still busy but not heaving. The setting is so lovely and the weather was gorgeous today. The cabins have some lovely things but nothing I'd actually want to buy but I enjoyed browsing. We had lunch in the cathedral café which was all very civilised. The market has a separate food area with some interesting things and samples to taste. We bought three "food" items

  • toffee vodka
  • handmade mini Xmas puds with interesting (alcoholic) flavours. Only DH eats it so he can enjoy those to himself
  • some big tea cake type things with really fluffy marshmallow inside
None are gifts! Now I've been there I don't feel the need to go to another one so that's out of my system for this year. If it's not too busy and you don't expect to find lots of perfect gifts you'll enjoy it.
ironickname · 05/12/2019 00:07

Having a lovely email about my DC from their teacher.
Going to bed early with my littlest one to read Christmas stories and listen to carols.
Have cleared lots of laundry (I'm scraping the barrel a bit now).

SukiPutTheEarlGreyOn · 05/12/2019 00:29

Watching DH & DC nattering while they played chess. The dog sat between them pondering whether the chess pieces were edible.

DS showing me something he’d written for guitar. It’s a warm fuzzy feeling when they’re way taller than you but still (sometimes) want to share stuff.

The background sounds of the teens joking in the kitchen as I made my way up to my comfy bed.

TressiliansStone · 05/12/2019 00:49
  1. Reminding myself we all got out safely during yesterday's fire, and learning that some of my neighbours had been thoughtful enough to check my flat to make sure I was out (I was indoors at another neighbour's by then).

  2. Watching this christmas advert – not just because it's lovely but because that was a friend's childhood, too.

  3. Getting an email about my nephew's progress in school, and being able to reply congratulating him. He's the other side of the world and we've never met in person: the internet is amazing!

Yarboosucks · 05/12/2019 00:56

@TressiliansStone - Yesterdays fire !?! Not in your home I hope!

Awyeah · 05/12/2019 01:02

I've had some shitty news today so thanks OP for making me remember the gòod stuff.

  1. Spending time with one of my oldest & closest friends
  2. Kid & cat curled up together in bed for first time ever
  3. Lighting a fire
TressiliansStone · 05/12/2019 01:06

Flat next door, poor chap. Not going to be a fun Christmas for him.Sad He has family to go to, though, so that could have been worse too.

Props to the drivers who stopped to make sure 999 had been called and we were all safe. It's actually been really heartening to see how everyone pulled together.

Awyeah · 05/12/2019 01:08

Christ. What a terrible juxtaposition with @TressiliansStone post Shock I do hope you are ok x

TressiliansStone · 05/12/2019 01:13

Grin No worries, I like a good fire myself, Awyeah.

Of wood. In the fireplace...

Awyeah · 05/12/2019 01:35

Yes Tress, I can confirm that was the scenario!

grisen · 05/12/2019 01:36
  1. Enjoying lunch out with my 10 month old.
  2. Watching him play with LEGO when we were shopping
  3. Him saying bye to everyone who walked past him on the train journey, at the Christmas market and in the shopping centre. (His hand must be sore by now)
Bloodybridget · 05/12/2019 04:02

@Clymene and @TressiliansStone, I was searching to see if anyone had mentioned the Hafod Hardware ad, isn't it brilliant? Bit of a tearjerker! Tressillians sorry to hear about the fire, your poor neighbour!
My three moments:
A walk in our beautiful historic, local cemetery, appreciating the colours of trees and berries, and all the birdsong.
Good results from my first post-chemo scan - as I'd expected, but extraordinarily cheering nonetheless!
Getting lots of lovely messages after I'd shared above news via email.

flyingspaghettimonster · 05/12/2019 04:45

Wrapping presents
Packages if british chocolate and crisps arriving in the mail
Next door invited us for dinner so no cooking

TerpsichoreanMuse · 06/12/2019 06:19

I had a rare day out yesterday so loads.

Amazing walk in the morning with the dog, frosty and the sun just coming up over the horizon.
Wearing my purple Justin Deakin shoes & pink Joules coat all day and feeling bright and cheery compared to everyone in black.
Lovely Japanese lunch with DH
Bought some very expensive white and gold twinkly Christmas lights.
Went round the National Gallery and reacquainted myself with some paintings.
Met friends for drinks and Chinese dinner.

Today will be much tougher as I have the hangover to end all hangovers.
