to think that Nish Kumar being booed offstage has cheered me up no end?

Yes, I am biased, because I've always found his brand of left wing wokery unfunny, but, let's face it, to think he could go on stage in front of that audience, with his usual routine of 'Brexit supporters are stupid' and not get the odd bread roll thrown at him, is pretty arrogant.

OP posts:
BertrandRussell · 04/12/2019 12:34

“ ONE person threw ONE bread roll and was castigated for it, as even Nish Kumar confirmed but don't let facts get in the way of your outrage.”

I like the “even Nish Kumar”Grin. What were you expecting him to say?

PlacidPenelope · 04/12/2019 12:46

Bertrand I am correcting those people who are painting the incident as a mass food throwing exercise and pointing out that Nish Kumar himself stated that ONE bread roll was thrown which missed him. It shouldn't have been thrown but there is no need to turn it into some kind of food flinging frenzy in an effort to make it far worse than it was, just stick to the facts.

If the accuracy of the account regarding the elderly gentleman can be questioned and probed for accuracy surely the same applies here?

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 04/12/2019 13:06

Yawwwnnnn

You don't HAVE to read her thread !!!

I agree with you OP . Too many lefty comedians saying whatever the hell they want .
Lots of lefties on here too, the apologists for this shitty "man"

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 04/12/2019 13:10

Placid, you're digging.

No one has said anything remotely like it was a "mass food throwing exercise". You've invented a strawman argument. As is the bizarre "elderly gentleman" one.

But notwithstanding that, if you want to find people to criticise for being hypocritical then you need to find ones who were cheering on the milkshake throwing but offended by the bread roll chucking. Mumsnet isn't a hivemind.

Wow, there's a lot to dig through here.

The yawn to start off with is a bit odd. Are you yawning at the OP or the people who have replied? I'm assuming it's the replies, but that implies that you think people shouldn't disagree. Which is a bit of an odd take for a discussion board.

"too many lefty comedians"
Would it be OK if it was only a few then?

"saying whatever the hell they want."
You seem to be advocating censorship here. Who gets to decide what is allowed?

"Lots of lefties on here too"
I'm getting the impression that you're not too keen on people whose politics are more left wing than yours.

"apologists"
I wasn't aware that he had anything to apologise for. Care to elaborate?

"this shitty "man" "
It's always a good look to throw insults at people you don't like. Really helps make your argument. But I am curious about the inverted commas around "man". Do you have to be right wing to be considered "manly"?

BlueMoonRising · 04/12/2019 13:23

Aww things can't be great before you were needing cheered up, and it must have been pretty bad before something like this managed it for you.

Hope things improve soon Flowers

PlacidPenelope · 04/12/2019 13:25

whats here's two comments, which are the two I responded to stating that the crowd/audience as a whole were throwing stuff, they weren't ONE dickhead did.

One person throwing a milkshake is hardly the same as a crowd throwing stuff. Mob mentality is thick and dangerous.

The crowd throwing things sound like a bunch of dickheads,

It isn't a straw man argument and neither is pointing the difference in reactions to this and the milkshake throwing incidents on MN threads.

Oldishusernewname · 04/12/2019 13:27

Nish has really really beautiful eyes

That's not helpful at all but I just wanted to point that out

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 04/12/2019 13:42

Any audience members throwing things at him is unacceptable, but he does really annoy me when he makes racist jokes, as he has done on at least a couple of occasions on Mock The Week.

It's not OK to do that, whatever race or colour you are yourself.

I don't think I've ever smiled at more than the odd thing or two I've seen him say. He's completely redundant on the Mash Report. It's painful to watch when he tries to 'spar' with the brilliant Rachel Parris - you can tell she strongly reins it in out of pity for him, but she still wipes the floor with him.

If you would like some comedy that is out of the woke BBC box, try Comedy Unleashed

Nicholas de Santo, Alistair Williams are funny

“ It's painful to watch when he tries to 'spar' with the brilliant Rachel Parris - you can tell she strongly reins it in out of pity for him, but she still wipes the floor with him.”
It shouldn’t be “painful” and she’s not reining in. it’s supposed to be like that. He is her foil. As he said himself- it’s like playing tennis with Roger Federer.

BertrandRussell · 04/12/2019 13:51

“Racist jokes?”

ScreamingLadySutch · 04/12/2019 13:57

I like Nish, but its quite interesting how comedians get a reality burst when they move out of their echo chamber BBC Channel 4 bubble.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 04/12/2019 14:00

Placid, neither of them are examples of a "mass food throwing exercise". I agree they were exaggerated, whether unwittingly or not. but your mischaracterisation of what they said is also an exaggeration to try and make a point.

Hagbeth · 04/12/2019 14:04

It made me happy to see, -nothing funny is coming from these types comedians anyway. Jo Brand is another one that deserves a bread roll! Grin

Hagbeth · 04/12/2019 14:05

deydododatdodontdeydo · 04/12/2019 14:06

I think with the sparring, him being inferior to her is the conceit. He's a comic, a clown, she's the intellectual.
i.e. "that's the joke".

lazerbullet · 04/12/2019 14:07

Yes, you are. He should be allowed to do his job without having food chucked at him, I think we'd all appreciate same!!

BertrandRussell · 04/12/2019 14:07

And saying “even Nish Kumar” implies that you wouldn’t expect him to acknowledge that it was only one bread roll and it missed.

beethecrackon24995 · 04/12/2019 14:09

The posts here are not exactly helping to change the view of Remainers being people who have a sense of superiority & look down on everyone who doesn't share the same views Grin

ScreamingLadySutch · 04/12/2019 14:09

This is hilarious. But please share your outrage after you have watched it, that will be entertaining as well!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 04/12/2019 14:18

I may be very wrong, but he doesn't look like he's deliberately acting the stooge to me. I get that the idea is for her to 'win' but he always looks naturally uncomfortable. Maybe he's just a very good actor.

No, saying even Nish Kumar was to point out that he felt no need to exaggerate and just stuck to the facts and as he was there and the target of the bread roll I suggest he has a more accurate take on it than posters who weren't and are determined to paint it as the whole crowd throwing food.

How did I mischaracterise what they said? I rebuffed their statements that the whole crowd were throwing food with the fact that only one person did. If, as they stated, the whole crowd were involved and chucking food at Nish it would be a mass food throwing exercise wouldn't it, rather than it just being one lone dickhead being a dickhead? Portraying the whole crowd as food flingers presents a different narrative though doesn't it?
