Yes, I am biased, because I've always found his brand of left wing wokery unfunny, but, let's face it, to think he could go on stage in front of that audience, with his usual routine of 'Brexit supporters are stupid' and not get the odd bread roll thrown at him, is pretty arrogant.

“ I may be very wrong, but he doesn't look like he's deliberately acting the stooge ”
Well, that’s what both he and Parris say is going on. Maybe they are both lying to preserve his ego? But.....script...

JellyfishAndShells · 04/12/2019 14:28

Not a misjudgment at all - he succeeded, he got exactly the reaction he wanted and now is revelling in the publicity. Cynical, unfunny third rate performer - boosted him up no end.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 04/12/2019 14:29

“Racist jokes?”

Granted, it's not hateful, but it is still very lazy stereotyping of a whole race/colour of people based on the fact that a few very privileged and very unpopular people being discussed happen to be of that race. He wouldn't have dared single out TM for criticism on her own by saying "Women, eh?! They're all like that!"

People will come on soon and tell me I must have had a sense of humour bypass and point out that the white comedians were laughing along as well. It doesn't offend me as a white person - very little does as it's an individual choice to take offence. It just makes me lose respect for him, his discernment and his integrity.

ThisIsSunrise · 04/12/2019 14:30

BertrandRussell is spot on. YABU and the audience of entitled half wits are pathetic.

Patroclus · 04/12/2019 14:31

The 'elderly gentleman' (war criminal who shot unarmed catholics in NI) has the CCTV of the 'incident' but has constantly refused to show it, or to explain why its yoghurt and not milkshake on him, or why he changed his story 3 times, or lied about the shop location, or why none of the yoghurt got on the floor, or why nobody else saw it.

Fair enough, then, it turns out I must be wrong. I still find her very funny and him barely so. He should get in touch with the scriptwriters and ask them to give him a few funny lines now and again when he isn't being Rachel's foil - otherwise, what's the point in being part of a comedy satire show?

Beveren · 04/12/2019 14:40

People who attended the event in question where expecting to be entertained not lectured so yes he should have modified his act to fit in with the occasion but certain left wing types can never let an opportunity pass by without promoting their agenda.

@PlacidPenelope, no-one has suggested that he lectured anyone. People who attended an event for which Nish Kumar was booked must have known what to expect, and it really is incredibly childish to object when he delivers that. If someone is such a sensitive little soul that they can't cope with hearing views that differ from their own, maybe they should avoid booking for events when that is inevitably what will happen.

Gone2far · 04/12/2019 14:43

here I am jacob, reporting for duty. Sorry, but I'd missed the memo to say that OP's had to return to the thread at regular intervals.

I can't help thinking that his assumptions of what would play well with the audience is HIGHLY indicative of how the UK ended up in the whole Brexit fisaco situation to start with.

Why would he not assume that the people booking him would have done so in the full knowledge of what his set was likely to be and taken that into account? Is he supposed to research the political views of each member of the audience and adapt his act accordingly?

Campervan69 · 04/12/2019 14:51

Nish said "in my defence it was only one bread roll and it missed me"

So crap reporting by the left wing press trying to whip up anger trying to make out he was getting pelted by them.

I don't think he's funny but that one person shouldn't have thrown their bread roll clearly.

JacobReesClunge · 04/12/2019 14:52

Well fortunately you were around to grace us with your presence as soon as suspicion was raised OP, so that's a blessing.

Yabu.

PlacidPenelope · 04/12/2019 15:05

Beveren no-one has suggested that he lectured anyone comments from members of the audience after the event suggest otherwise. People attended a charitable event to raise money and expected entertainment as part of the package. I'm guessing that a fair number of the audience didn't know who Nish Kumar is nor what his brand of comedy is. Still think it shows a lack of intelligence on Nish Kumar's part to not read the room and realise his act was not entertaining his audience. Also, a number of those who complained directed their complaints at the organisers as much as at Nish Kumar.

If someone is such a sensitive little soul that they can't cope with hearing views that differ from their own same could be said of Nish Kumar who has said I spend a lot of time bathing in a glow of consensus.

BertrandRussell · 04/12/2019 15:08

PlacidPenelope- So do you think he should have written an entirely new set for a one off charity gig?

Vulpine · 04/12/2019 15:14

Oldiherusernsme - i agree - lovely eyes

leckford · 04/12/2019 15:20

Unfortunately he is one of the many tedious BBC lovies, he is not funny and neither are most of the others. I now rarely listen to BBC radio and we rarely watch most of the TV either, despite the licence fee. The ‘comedy’ they produce is aimed at the London audience which are not representative of the U.K. as a whole.

PlacidPenelope · 04/12/2019 15:27

No Bertrand I think he should have thought on his feet and adapted his routine when it started to go downhill, I would have thought that was a stock-in-trade for a stand up comedian when they realise a joke has gone down like a lead balloon.

Gone2far · 04/12/2019 15:48

are you feeling OK jacob?
It seems a bit odd to criticise someone for not posting, then being snarky because they do post.

I’d never heard of the bloke until now.
Yeah I know I need to go out moreXmas Grin
However unless he was making fun of the disabled or mentally ill for example.
I don’t think he deserved to be humiliated and have things launched at him.
That is abuse.
They must have bloody hurt as well.

He was giving up his time for charity.
He didn’t have to do that. Mind you,
You know what they say “No good deed goes unpunished”

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 04/12/2019 15:59

I love Nish Kumar! Very amusing

JacobReesClunge · 04/12/2019 16:00

I can imagine you're deeply saddened at the disruption of the previously not remotely snarky tone of the thread OP. Try your best to hold it together though.

derxa · 04/12/2019 16:13

There is a reason why Morecambe and Wise and Victoria Wood shows are constantly repeated on TV.

Patroclus · 04/12/2019 16:16

ahaha people complained? why are the right such raging snowflakes?

Megan2018 · 04/12/2019 16:21

Comedians getting heckled and booed etc is part if the job description, it’s hardly news worthy. He’s not in the least funny so he got what he deserved. Worse happens at comedy clubs every night of the week.

derxa · 04/12/2019 16:22

I wonder what will happen when Trump is gone and Brexit is forgotten about. What will these unfunny comedians talk about?

Aquilla · 04/12/2019 16:28

Completely agree, OP. He thought he was still in his wee echo chamber, bless him.
